Neither, if you're planning on being the pillion.

Push him towards an STX1300.

Tough comparison -- a v-twin versus an inline four. A bit like deciding between chocolate or strawberry icecream...

Shouldn't that be inline-4 vs inline-4 (fireblade vs gsxr)?

Fireblade is a more user friendly bike from what I have been told. It'll probably better suit the road, maybe... The GSXR is great all round but it is probably better suited for the track. Maybe WT and one of the new Blade owners can object to this statement or confirm it. From what I have been told by some owners, GSXR can really be a handful if you wana give it heaps where as Honda handeling is a lot nicer on the rider.

If you are talking about which one is better performance wise, then you'd need to be a top racer to find out the difference as all modern 1000 cc inline four sports bikes are top stuff packed with insane amounts of HP.

Yes, I've pillioned on a colleague's GSX1100, and it stood up to the test very well. You won't find anything significantly more comfortable.

If it's all about image, just close your eyes and imagine it's a YZR-M1 (since RC211Vs aren't sexy any more).

If that was a general question then, it all depends on the needs and wants of the specific rider. Some people a gixxer guys/gals and some people are honda guys/gals. You can't really go too wrong if you pick either one if you are not brand concerned.

i was asking which is better to pillion on, when you sit on dads seat for about half an hour it begins to start feeling like a rock...when i took a ride on the back of badlutennants vfr 750 for about 45 mins it still felt quite comfortable,

he is wise to stay away from the dark side.. the honda is too sensible!, the gsx1100 may not be the most comfortable tourer, but that engine is a bit of a monster really mate, it might not live with yer gixxer's and bladez, but a lot of em are still tearin up dragstripz all over the world and winnin.

If your looking for comfort from the GSX or the CBR forget it, they arent built designed for this purpose.

The best sport bike/tourer on the market will be the VFR800 (in my opinion) and then maybe a Bandit.

You will never find long distance comnfort on a sports bike unfortunetly. I have this dilema with my bike and last week test rode a few, the VFR beats the lots for comfort without to much of a comprimise on sports handling.
If I was to make a choice from the GSX and the CBR I would go the CBR because at least with underseat exhaust you will have the option of attaching a rear footpeg Modification to allow a better legroom.I dont think you can do this with the GSX as it has a pipe on one side which may support the footpeg

Good luck

Yes another good option Chris CBR1100xx is and awesome bike, but perhaps not so nimble
It really comes down how far down the sports to Tourer ruler you want to go.

For a bit more power I would be pushing the old bugger :Pokey: towards a Blackbird, VFR800, Bandit or Hayabusa - unless he would consider a twin, in which case a VTR1000 or SV1000

What the hell, who's scewing with the results. Is this poll run by the Zimbabwe Govt's fair and democratic election officals also known as the We support Mugabe and any Suzuki party. Step aside you prejudiced Suzuki supporters so a fair and balanced view can be heard from an equally biased Honda supporter.
Firstly Mini-hooks no one in their right mind wants to pillion on any 1000cc sports bike. The best pillion machine is probably the Honda VFR or Triumph STand for those of larger stature even better, as Hitcher tried to hint at, is the Honda STX1300.
Now back to sports bikes. As someone mentioned early, Chris Vermuelen on the sole Blade in the WSB series made a joke out of the pack of "also ran" other jappers that never got close enough to the front to get in a single camera shot all series! Were ALL those 'other jap riders' having bad days - every race, or were they having so much 'excitment' on their slower bikes that they didn't notice that they were always coming in last? Their scooters might have done better. And some say excellent handling and power delivery is not as exciting? Go figure. Well now that was totally unbiased I'd say. And if anyone disagrees then they are obviously irrational and prejudiced and their opinions should be excluded from this poll. In fact only Honda supporters should be allowed to vote, don't you reckon Robert, worked for you in Zimbabwe land.

A FEW MAGS HAVE DONE COMPARO,S THE BEST ONE IS THE JEREZ TEST , THE RESULTS WERE ZX10 FIRST, THEN GSXR1000, THEN UNBELIEVABLY GSXR750, THEN R1 AND LASTLY THE CBR1000 AND RIGHTLY SO. THE TEST IS ALL INDEPENDENT BY TOP RIDERS AND AVERAGE RIDERS ITS A GREAT TEST AS NO COMPANY CAN BUY A RESULT THEY ALSO CANT SEND RINGERS AS THE BIKES ARE BOUGHT AT RANDOM FROM A RETAILER. IN FAST BIKES THEY PUT THE BLADE LAST , GSXR1000 SECOND AND R1 FIRST.BIKES IN RACE CONDITIONS ARE A BIT DIFFERENT YOU CAN HAVE CHEQUE BOOK RACING. BUT GET A GSXR WHICH IS ONLY 18OOO AND SPEND 1000 ON IT ITS A REAL WEAPON. THE BLADE IS 22000 WHICH STILL MAKES IT 3000 MORE THAN THE GSXR WITH A SLIPON ITS EASY TO REMOVE THE SET VALVE FROM THE SUZUKI .THE GSXR HAS REALLY COMFY SEATS AS WELL GOOD FOT TOURING. HONDA HAVE POOR BACKUP FOR PARTS AND WARRANTY ISSUES. AS FOR THE WSB COMMENT WELL THE HONDA DIDNT WIN . BUT WHAT ABOUT THE AMA AND BSB. MY OPINION HONDA MAKE BORING BIKES AND THEIR BUILD QUALITY IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE OTHER JAPPERS

WTF has WSB results got to do with the bikes we ride every day? Very fucking little, unless you do ride a machine worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars, in not only parts but also time spent perfecting, modifying and re-testing many different combinations of said parts.

Like comparing a road std WRX and a WRC spec WRX.

Almost every comparo I've read (no, I haven't done a full 4 bike test myself) has said the CBR1000 does feel boring in comparison to the other 3. However, they say this allows the rider to put in a fast(er) lap without noticing it so much as compared to the other 3. So boring it may be, but a competent fast bike it is.

Re suzuki's ugly exhaust, apparently it is where the catalytic convertor is housed (for emission regs) so a quick change to an aftermarket pipe gets rid of the cc in one easy go. Makes sense now doesn't it?

THIS IS CONTRADICTORY TO THE SPANISH TEST AROUND THE TRACK THE BLADE WAS THE SLOWEST IT EVEN GOT BEATEN BY THE GSXR750. IT FELT SLOW CAUSE IT WAS SLOW ACCORDING TO 15 GOOD RIDERS . Selective reading I see. Try PB comparos in Aug and Oct 04. Six out of the six testers (Oct) picked the Blade over the other 1000s including the MV. The test covered road and track use. Then there's RIDE's public survey of 10,000 UK bikers who picked ... try and guess. The journos can't agree so why should we.
Blades retail at $20,900 by the way. Hey who cares, if I still had one of my SL125s I'd argue that it's the best bike around.

The reason why CBR's are so common in the UK is that they are brilliant bikes - and yes I have owned one. I've also been lucky enough to have been able to "look after" :  a mates Gixxer 1000 while he went back to Europe for a month. Both bikes are great fun, but the Gixxer has a more edge of the seat riding style about it and not the most comfortable for any great distance. The CBR gets my vote though as its an easier more comfortable bike to live with. But if it's balls out speed tou want then the Gixxer is the one to choose.

Me - I ride a Blackbird, very fast if you want it to be, sedate and calm when you don't, brilliant for pillions and very easy to handle despite its size.

Worlds best touring bikes?

1. VFR
2. Blackbird
3. ZZR1200
4. FJR1300

I am not and never will be contemplating changing my ride !! I love my old bitch  and find that she still, some almost 20 years after manufacture, does what I like a bike to do !! With new rubber she still handles brilliantly even at speed, although I don't ride as hard as I used to...(too many responsibilities now !!) With a good tune up, which she needs badly ....and will be happening real soon .... she can still get up and bark when I ask and on the longer rides the position and comfort level are great. Wet or dry the conditions are irrelevant !! I still have this bike because it does what I want in all areas and fits me like a glove. It's not flash or new but it is all I need to enjoy being on 2 wheels ... and given the chance later in the year when I have finally got myself some decent riding gear ( 14 years off and nothing fits WTF ???) Honda, that has no bearing whatsoever on road bike performance/comfort/user-friendeness. Apples with apples.

The 2005 Honda CBR1000RR is being raced by a small team with "no preformance upgrades" as stated by the team boss. I had the fortune to watch on Sky. Not only is it doing pretty well, but its a standard bike that is keeping up with the fully worked Ducatis from the big teams. So before anyone else continues to slag off the 2005 CBR1000RR it would be helpfull to look at all the facts and in fact not believe all that is published as the CBR racing in the superbike racing is appartently the same as can be purchased in the local Honda dealerships. Its cool to prefer one over the other, but those saying the Suzuki is better need to read the true facts before getting rather opinionated as it just shows that some are wrong here :crybaby:

Does no one here watch the world superbikes or what? Chris Venmulan(sp) springs to my mind, and where are the other jappos in the pack? Oh thats right um, er ahh, I think they are there somewhere aint they?

I watch WSB indeed. I also watch the test sessions.

Troy Corser went 1.5 secs faster than Laconi, 2 secs faster than Toseland and 2.1 secs faster than Vermulen on Lavillas 2 season old Gixxer.

Matt Mladin is already 1.5 seconds faster than any other AMA Superbike rider at the Daytona tyre test after only one day on a completely untested and developed new model Gixxer.

I don't have to tell you that he's also won the past 2 years on the trot on a Gixxer 1k and 5 in total, all on GSXRs.

But I will tell you that.

[QUOTE=Mark Dunn]Selective reading I see.
QUOTE]

The one conclusion I drew from PB article was that generally speaking the Japper bikes are that similar that it really comes down to personal preference. But of course the Honda is always better! :msn-wink: :msn-wink: :msn-wink: :msn-wink:
That article did not inspire one to go out and spend your fortune on the MV Agusta though did it MD?
Exactly Stevo. Their impression of the MV flys in the face of most views but as they said maybe they got a lemon. I've had the pleasure of a long ride on the MV1000 and seat of the pants it's got more get up and go than the Honda (and R1 & ZX10 I'd say) firmer seat, puts you in more of a racer position and too firm suspension for my liking but that's what the adjustments are for so I'm sceptical of all mag reviews- especially FB who seem to rubbish everything they get on, prats (I stopped buying FB because of their negative attitudes).
Buy what you like and like what you buy (hey, that sounds profound, can I get a patent on it?) MD
ps- the MV owner's ridden a few Gixxers and thinks they rock, so there, that puts the universe back into balance

You do realise that for 2004 most factories boycotted World Superbike after numerous rule changes and the introduction of Pirelli tyres? Hence no official factory Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha teams entered. Surely you must have noticed this???
Thats why I posted about the other Superbike championships where the other teams apart from Ducati were racing, like the British, AMA and NZ scene, not sure who won in Japan. Only Australia had the CBR1000RR winning......
However this year 2005 should be an awesome year for WSBK. Suzuki are back with Troy Corser and Yuki Kajayama (who has been racing in the UK) Yamaha are back with Nori Haga, Sebastian Gimbert and Norifumi Abe.
Honda look to have two Ten Kate bikes plus Frankie Chilli and looks like Ben Bostrom will be CBR mounted.

OK here's my Fifty cent for what it is worth.

Having owned both a 1990 VFR750 (Verronica) and a 1990 CBR1000FL (Roxanne), the feed back from my pillions favour the CBR. Both bike were made mainly with Touring in mind. The VFR was better as an all-rounder. Better on the track, better commuting in heavy inner city traffic, but "Roxanne" rules went it comes to doing the distances and taking pillions.
Pure Race bikes like the Fireblade and the Gixxer were never made with pillions in mind so it is not fair the compare them on that.
Gixxer have had it their own way in Kiwi Racing for too long. This is probably because we could not afford to race anything else and the sponsership was not there. This season with see Gixxers really challanged in NZ as top riders will be competing on RI's, CBR1000RR, as well as the Gixxer's. The results are going to be interesting. I'm looking forward to The John Bitten Mem this year as it will see some truely SuperBike clashs. At the end of the day, when you are talking about racing, these bikes are all top bikes. The winner will be decided by who has the best rider with the best support team (as shown by Rossi), not which one of these brands the bike they are riding is.

PS: I am dissappoint the Honda has not put out a new version of my CBR1000FL as this bike is a good sports tourer and as such (in my oppion) is better suited for the masses. Racing is for the track, not the road.
