KB ride etiquette.
Those of us that have been on a kb ride or two know how much fun they can be.
I myself go on as many as I can and absolutely love them, and have also met some people that I would like to think are life long friends on these rides.
BUT occasionally one of us has an incident (I myself have had a few) where some damage to ourselves/beloved bike occurs for whatever reason.
If you have binned you know how it feels, firstly because you have damaged your pride and joy and as we know it's not often cheap to fix, but also because you feel like you've fu**ed everybody’s day up.
But then there's that dreaded feeling of coming onto this forum when somebody's spilled or left a little cryptic message (usually worse).
This can really f*ck you off and is not needed at all!
In my opinion if you've had an "off" it's up to you to post (unless not possible, hospitalised etc.) after all who knows more about it.
And if they don't want to post then that should be respected.
There is often a good reason for it even if it's just until they get there head around it.
Cheers
Chris
PS This is not a rant, just something I feel needed to be said.

Oh - I started reading this cos I thought it referred to the faster riders saving a pint for the slower onesYeah, and I thought it would say some stuff about how to behave when on a ride. Then I could post some smart-arse stuff poking fun at it, and drawing attention to the things that usually happen.
Rule number 1: Try to keep up, otherwise you'll get teased mercilessly.
Rule number 2: Wheelies are invariably compulsory.
Rule number 3: If you can't keep up, or get it up (see previous rules) try to crash in a spectacular fashion, so you can at least achieve some infamy that way.
etc. etc.

Oh whoops! :o
This is 6Chris6's thread. I just broke list etiquette. He should answer your query.
But (BUT!) if I were to answer that, I'd say that during the lunchtime bullshit session, you could just claim you were exuberantly warming up your tyres and your lungs during the warmup lap, just like you used to do when you were a professional road racer.

We're not moving onto golf now are we?? btw I agree that with you that the guilty party needs to be completely forthcoming in order to involve/enlighten the other members & disappoint/frustrate them by stopping rumours & gossip in their tracks

(That's prolly a shaven-headed cricketer wearing Oakleys, as they all seem to do now.)
Seriously (or at least trying to put up a vague pretence of seriousness), Chris and that other one have a good point.

seriously --um chris (TS) I guess the lesson here is keep quiet about it.
I TOTALLY empathise with ya not wanting people to know but if ya want it kept secret best ya tell noone.
Case in point was my bin --a KB er saw the aftermath of my bin and probably would have posted about it even if I diddn't.
Ohh and for other kbers --wasn't me that blabbed :ar15:

Absolutely, and if you're the fastest? Gloat copiously.
Rule number 2: Wheelies are invariably compulsory.
Unless you're gay, then we'll let you away with it.
Rule number 3: If you can't keep up, or get it up (see previous rules) try to crash in a spectacular fashion, so you can at least achieve some infamy that way.

And sometimes if you can......

I was recently given permission to post about such an event from a certain angle and even with this I could quite justify putting anything up, whats the point ?
I will say however those of us that know each other I believe share a certain kind of brotherhood (sisterhood) and do want to know if someone has a situation, the point of this is so you can help a friend in need if you can, and this is certainly one of the best things about KB, people keen to help and support fellow bikers right, however other factors come in to it and thats were caution should prevail, ie this is a public forum and you dont know who is on here, is a insurance assesor or two here ? how much detail can they find out on here which could seriously comprimise a claim.
What if criminal charges were brought against a member would this forum be evidence ?
At the end of the day its best not to say to much and as 6Chris6 rightly said leave it up to the person involved to speak out, and when he does be careful what you say.

that is very true, it is afterall the crashee that will feel the effects of a rejected claim as well as the damage to themselves, both physically and their pride. From me and most others though, sympathy is all I feel, it's inevitable that we will all come off at some stage, and not one of us plans it that way.

hmmmm.... i must knocked my head cos i cant seem to do anything as well as i used to. Could prob keep up - but its completely up to the bike when it wants to lift the front (hense me being low in the revs in corners).
Oh i have to agree here, If ya bin it - no mockery till the binner can laugh bout it. Otherwise we may as well all go buy cages and become :buggerd: racers.
I know what it feels like (like most here) when you fuck up someones weekend ride.
Damn right TS should get pissed off too, i would be.
I mean my bikes feel like my babies, if i hurt them - imagine the fuckn guilt. Then have some wanker calling you some lower form of rider.

So what if you crash and take someone else out? Whos at fault? So what if youre playing silly buggers and someone else crashes but technically youre not at fault? I had an incident many years ago now, where a group of us were returning from a ride and riding in a bunch at lowish speed, where one of the guys in front of me, suddenly hit his front brakes real hard (RGV250) He thought the guy who had pulled alongside him was going to reach over and hit his kill switch or something :brick: I braked as hard as I could but ended up rear ending him and knocking him off and wrecking front end of my bike (buckled front wheel, fairing damage etc) First thing he said was "sorry gav" fair enough I thought, your insured, hopefully your insurance will cover it. Well after a week or so, and probably after some pressure from his parents, he says I'm at fault as I hit him from behind. OK, maybe technically, but surely "dangerous driving" or " reckless use of a motorvehicle" by him would be a good place to start. Ended up in small claims, but both got thrown out and told to each pay for our own bikes and stop being stupid buggers on the road
Just wondering how you'd react/think in similiar situation?
Wonko
12th January 2005, 00:30
Gav, IMHO you got off lightly.
Sounds like you were failing to leave enough of a gap from the rider in front. (you said you rear ended him). Would have been your arse in a sling and paying for both bikes.
"dangerous driving" or " reckless use of a motorvehicle" would have been against you too, not him
If someone crashed and then slid into you then they would be at fault and you would be a third party payout. Ditto if the toppled over onto your bike while parked up etc.

One of the easiest charges to prove, following too close. If nothing else it comes under Careless Driving, (not the actions of a prudent motorist). As the rules say, you must drive at a speed where you are able to stop short.
Just me being a know it all prick, hehehe :stupid:
Mate of mine Years ago at MOT college ran up the back of an Instructor on the Rimatkuka's, wrote both bikes off. Instructors one was supposed to be for MOT museum. We all thought it was FUNNY. Lucky they never charged him tho.
gav
12th January 2005, 05:47
Yeah, I guess  even though he was playing silly buggers, though morally he knew he caused the accident, legally I guess I was at fault?
Something to keep in mind out there, aye.....

If i thought some dick was gunna hit my kill switch i'd probably hit the brakes too. Don't see how the accident was his fault myself (but then i wasn't there to witness it).
A classic example of why riding in staggered formation is a good idea in a big bunch. I've seen the same thing avoided on a kb ride when a bunch of 15 or so riders overshot a turn and the first guy decided to haul up just over a blind rise with the others right on his butt :shit: Who needs the cardio room at the gym, just ride with kb'rs!!!
