If there's one thing in my life thats missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear water

After having been doing some thinking lately, I've decided that I probably can't, and more importantly don't want to be the fastest or best rider out there. The bike I currently own is built for just about one reason only, to go faster than commen sense. I know I've always said, and I still believe it, that ANY bike can be ridden safely and slowly. But, for the riding I think I will enjoy most, owning the R1 is like owning a F1 car for sunday drives. On the R1 I feel that I will always be trying to keep up with, be as good as or "beat" some of the riders I ride with now. I can't, and I can't afford to.

I have been very suddenly, but firmly bitten by the bug of a certain motorcycle, which I shall be test riding shortly. WHITETRASH, and VTWIN, you are SWORN to secrecy, I'd prefer to let all know when I've made up my mind.

The bike I'm looking at is also a 1000cc sports bike, but is designed in my opinion to be a more leisurely ride, with the capability of becoming a beast at the twist of a wrist, however still not intending to a supersport bike like I have now. The "new" bike also sounds the shiznit, and has the "look at me" factor, when at the lights (quote from WT himself!) :msn-wink:

So, depending on how the test ride goes, and how I'm feeling, I may have a mint 04R1 for sale, literally as new.

I need to make it clear, I fucking love my R1, so the test ride would have to blow my balls off haha :msn-wink:

Right up until the point that you said you were gonna buy a new bike.

I'll give ya $50 for the R1.

or should that be: air-cooled or water-cooled? :)

StoneChucker
6th January 2005, 21:06
Nope, I'm not one of "those" cases. I'll ride bikes, as far as I can see it, till the day I die. Hopefully that day will be one and the same, ie: riding my bike.

Will you chuck in the scratched fairing and holed radiator? :bleh:

I think you're on the right track with getting a different bike if you're not up for the performance of an R1.

The problem with any of the superbikes is that to find the limits, you have to be going verrry fast- shoulda stuck with the 250 eh? ;)

So what are you replacing it with? A STX1300?

Slingshot
6th January 2005, 21:13
OK...the clues so far:

WT is selling it: Could be a Suzuki, Buell.
Sounds good: Possibly a Suzuki SV1000, not sure what Buells sound like.
Look at me factor: Probably have to be a Buell over the SV1000, but maybe the SV1000S?

My money's on a Buell but not sure what model?

Am I close?

6th January 2005, 21:15
Have you been sniffin glue again? ;) Not many people STAY on a 250 after getting their full, unless they have no choice. I'm a big lad, the 250 was under powered. I can handle the R1, the riding style it's designed for is possibly not what will give me the most enjoyment. Don't get me wrong, I'm keeping the :love2:R1 :love2: if I don't like the test ride.

Oh, "new" bike's engine : Air / oil / fan-cooled, 4-stroke, V-Twin

I reckon the beautiful thing about 250's is that you can be at their limits and still not be going that fast, but I know what you mean about underpowered.

Oooohh! A Buell! Excellent choice! I'm putting my money on you being converted in the first 5 km.

Judging solely on ching_ching's review of his new baby, I'd say go for it. Although his is without his baby for a week, but that is [not] BRV at work but just one of those things.

If you don't like the Buell, hows about giving the MT-01 a go? :msn-wink: :D

The way I see it, if I don't like the Buell if I buy it, I can move on to something else. Life is short, I don't mind paying things off that little bit extra till I find something I like and stick with it. But, from briefly sitting on one, I think I'll like the Buell.

SC, I have the 'cager' equivalent of what you want, It was made in 1955, Has 400+HP, makes enough rumble to activate every car alarm on the way past, has a 'large ' bonnet scoop, runs 305 X 15" rear tyres and has wheelie-bars yet I rarely have to rev it past 3,500 revs on the street to get 'respect' (will go to 6,000 if revved in anger).
All you need is the motorcycle equal of that, no need for a R1 etc, the look/sound will do it!! :bleh:

Saw the specs on that thing a while back. Didn't have a great deal of power, (around 94 hp) but it had enough torque to enter it in tractor pull competions. I'd love to take it for a ride, v-twins rock!

Okay, so it looks like the Buell's going... :(

Even after I asked everyone to leave it on the shop floor until the had to discount it.

How about you keep it for a year or so, look after it real nice like, theen trade it in again so's I can snap it up really cheap....

Seriously though, the Buell's are way cool.

I'd go for a Lightning XB9R. Although the Yellow Lightning XB9S has the race kit on it - hmmmmm yummy exhaust sound.

I've read elsewhere on the 'net (so it's most probably BS) that the race kit stresses the motor and Buell's warranty is invalid if you put the race kit on. You may want to check out if that's the case - its most probably BS though.

Let us know wwhat you reckon.

You're instincts are correct.

This is why I tell people not to spend so much time on the net.

Invalid. Phhffft.

SC: With no disrespect intended, Deano and I were discussing the thread where you stated that you weren't interested in being the "top dog" and I wondered what the hell anyone would do with an open class litre bike if that was the case?

I think you'll find the Buell will suit you to the ground. If it's good enough for Jimbo to be convinced, and Ching, and Jim2, I'm sure you'll love it.

90% of sports bike riders could ride one faster than their Jappa. End of story.

O for oarsum. Can I buy a vowel... give me a "P"!!

Gee... someone told me that if the race kit is chucked on then your warranty goes down the shitter. Glad tis not so. But Jimmy is right folks (welll for me anyways). Am gradually getting used to the Buell more and more and it does indeed urge me to lean more and be a bit more aggressive while at the same time really enjoying the ride (along with the shakes and the sounds). What you'd want with most bikes really aye??? :2thumbsup

Obviously you're sure. But I thought I read in ching_ching's BRV thread that his dealer said the same thing (as the rumour).

On the Empty One side of things, has anyone heard anything more on the Motard sister bike they concepted last year? Are they going to release it. Looked like a damn fun bike.

The more I think about it SC, the more a Buell seems to suit you more than an R1 ever could. Just remember to look after Cno6's future baby. Oh and review with pics would be nice too. You Wellingtonians have no excuses for not including pics, with Jimbo*snaps*600 up there.

The XB9S with a race kit I rode from the trashman's place of employ:

Race kit = loud muffler (louder than my vtr)

The vibration while commuting will become tiresome as would the heat wave from the air cooled donk.

But as long as you're not going to ride it in slow traffic, it's a blast

I didn't think I liked it very much until I took it to the twisties on Makara hill,

yeee ha

when I got back to WMCC I couldn't stop smiling.

Race kit = loud muffler (louder than my vtr)

The vibration while commuting will become tiresome as would the heat wave from the air cooled donk. Y'know, I'm sure they're wonderful bikes, and I'd like to ride one, but I still remember a few years back when I was commuting, and I heard this horrible rattling noise behind me, and thought, "Man! That guy should get his car engine mounts / exhaust pipe tightened up, or tune his engine, or summat! What a racket!!"
Then a Buell trundled past.

And another occasion, when one was sitting at the lights near me, and as it idled, EVERYTHING was vibrating: mirrors, lights, handlebars, even the rider!

And the other day, when we were at Kawakawa Bay eating lunch, I turned around to admire the Buell going past, and it was actually a tractor towing a boat!:o

But as long as you're not going to ride it in slow traffic, it's a blastNo, that's the US-only 500. I don't think they imported the Buell Blast here.

I didn't think I liked it very much until I took it to the twisties on Makara hill,
