For the people that don't know, it's the CRF250 powered road-racer by Honda/Moriwaki.
A sexy machine indeed :)

I would think that motocross engines aren't designed to sit on redline for extended periods of time, hence the failures.

You smackedthe nail on the head but these things arnt moto x engines they are and enduro/trail bike electric start they just aint designed for this abuse. But adding slipper clutches etc gets the cost up quite high maybe they should talk to gimpy to see what he did to his bike thatthing was a rocket and I know it was a 450

But these Honda engines have been known for there reliabilty in top end etc to be bad I have seen a few the goodies are the YZF engine they just keep going

Honda 250F's are not known for there reliabilty, no 250F's are?
but i have seen the bad ones of those go as well, ,they are high revving high maintence machines, that make the 125 two strokes look ultra reliable, and cheap to run,

do not fall for this 4 stroke reliabilty crap, MX did and now it costs over twice as much to race as it did on 2 strokes,

You might be thinking of the Roland Sands MX conversion to roadracer.

Nah thats cool and I know of that but Kawasaki actually built a genuine GP bike but used a KXF250 engine

The japanese big four all have them, based on their 450 single cyl enduro engines. The frame is the same as the dirtbike, but with forks/swingarm comparable to that of the companies 600cc supersports bike. They then attach 250GP fairings and put a modified for track use ohlins in the rear and away they go. I think they call them SuperMono's or something. It's starting up as a race class in the US of A with an out of the box ready to race package for about $12-14k US dollars.

I think in that You Tube interview he said standard swingarm as well. So just the 600's front end.
Sweet as... and something for the Kiwi ingenuity guys to get into. Would love to see more of these in F3. Would be good to mix up with the SVs.

Those MX/RR 450 bikes are all designed and built by Roland Sands |Design in the USA.

They are not built by the factories.
But Yam, Hon and Kaw seem to be looking at MiniMono GP bikes in Japan.

Ultra unreliable and slower than 125GP when they are reliable.

I fear the future of GP style racing outside of MotoGP if we go totally to 4 st. It will just all get too expensive and too difficult for non-factory supported people to do.

We will see I guess.

Well I know a guy in Japan who races them Mini Monos and he says they are getting more power and more top speed than 125's now but are just trying to work on a way of stopping the frame from cracking.
