View Full Version : Proliferation of wire barriers in the south

I decided that winter wasn't going to stop a southern biker doing what he loves...so I went for a ride through the Cromwell gorge. 8 degrees (celcious) and some sunshine with blue sky. A few clouds to keep the heat down in some places in the gorge. Traffic was horrific (sunday drivers) and the attached photo shows the wire barriers so prolific in this region.

I envy you. Fact of the matter is, you will get them. The cheesecutters I mean. Hopefully this campaign will keep them from reaching you. Your support is noted. Thanks.

I had hoped that is what you meant...

Too late... they are here (serious) will show photo's at a later time. The gorge is full of them...a few cages have gone into them, no bikes that I am aware :)

I still wouldn't want to hit them at 100kph... I should know years back, I did hit a fence and in all seriousness I was lucky it didn't loose my head... :confused::mellow:

Thank God for that! I know you have them. You dont know the half of it down there. These things are like mushrooms, appear overnight. I guess your smarty pants pic got me a bit jealous...LOL

We too have the fences, we live rurally, but wait till you get the cheesecutter down the side of that beautiful road, for safety you understand. They will stop you running off the road. Then it will be down the middle of the road, incase someone crosses the centre line. Before you know it you will be WRB'd both sides, travelling at 60km/ph. It is all about safety!!

The "theme" of the thread, (maybe) was a little smarty pants... Thats just me with my sense(or lack of) humor(???) But what are those things on the side of the road in YOUR profile pic ???

Good one FJRider. :banana::banana:
Coming home through Hyde in 100 -120km/h + winds after one Brass Monkey I was hanging onto a CBX 750 at about 30k . . . 35k . . . 30k. Talk about dangerous, when a Suzuki rider whizzed past at least 45k, real fast!
Infront of my eyes his bike was lifted off the road into the water table. He ended up leaning up against the top barbed wire and the only damage was a slight nic on the shoulder of his leathers!
So these cheese cutter do have their uses. If it had not been there, he would have fallen over!
I couldn't get off my bike to help him back up to the road, so I waited 'in irons' head up into the wind until some caged persons arrived to help!
He had a funny walk when we gave up, parked our rides behind the Middlemarch tea shop, right up against the wall where the end two BM's had been blown off their centre stands! Spent a pleasant two hours drinking coffee and chips. Greatt ride home when Huey turned of the big fan. Cheers:2thumbsup

Now all we have to convince is 120 mp's.....easy I've used fence wire as a tow rope by a bike for a bike I had (suzi...explains a lot) once. must be No. 8 wire (multi purpose tool kit)

A huge rumble strip? Seriously I dont really know what they are. That is quite a tight corner, down hill and off camber. I think they are there to direct any surface water off the road in heavy rain to stop erosion of the shoulder.

the funniest thing is that people will still complain about them even after they have slid 10m off the road to hit the damn thing. Cant help some people - they seem to thing the world should be bubble wrapped around them.
