Hey guys, another thread of mine has created some interest from those currently looking at getting radar detectors and laser jammers etc.
I am playing the different Kiwi suppliers off against each other (quote collecting stage). Best package deal so far is this (price has come down a little bit):
$1800 w/o installation for:
Beltronics Sti
Weather case
Tank-mounted stand
M20 jammer set
HARD system (helmet LED flashing light)
Hardwire kit
or:
$1395 without the laser jammers
Ok so heaps of emails later and it would seem that the NZ suppliers of radar detectors have a strong anti-competitive pricing agreement among their selves. I can't get these buggers to budge and am thinking stuff them, buy directly from the US.
Get this, I was offered a 2.5% discount on a bulk purchase of $6000 in value - FFS?! The above prices are the best I can get from Radar2go. They are cheaper again than Radardirect and one other crowd.
So, unless someone has some hook ups I reckon we start looking abroad...

That'd pay a few fines!
They still making these illegal? Can the STI live 'hidden' and still operate correctly?

I am playing the different Kiwi suppliers off against each other (quote collecting stage). Best package deal so far is this:
$1869 w/o installation for:
Beltronics Sti

Tank-mounted stand

HARD system (helmet LED flashing light)
Hardwire kit
I reckon if we get another 1 or 2 people keen for this package there's a chance this price could come down to maybe $1600 flat? After all, the retail sector is hurting at the moment and it's a buyer's market!
Let me know if you're genuinely keen.
Shit you can have my Bel hard wire and mount for half that.

I don't want to turn this thread into a debate on whether they are or are not being banned etc. But a good question nevertheless, Short answer is that no intent for Police to ban laser jammers. The radar detector ban has effectively been dropped and there is very little chance of this legislation occuring now

so if it detects up to 5km away, does that mean you miss out on 4km of speeding if you had a cheaper one that only detected up to 1km away? :buggerd:
I've got an FXR and I think I want one! :D
...not
I mean... What kind of a radar detector costs as much as my bike itself?

Unlikely we will see it this side of the election.
After the election there will be a different govt, so anything could happen.
That's a good enough reason for me to vote national.

Ha ha, yeah I owe you a beer for that time with your radar detector...
Take off the laser jammers and it's down to around 1K, so maybe half the price but with a warranty and supposedly the best detector i.e. Escorts sell for half that price... but I want the best!

Or you buy any other radar detector off trademe for no more than 800
even down to 379.99.
Or like, just dont speed in areas when there are cops... you dont need a radar detector for that.
Time and place.

Ive had an Escort X50 & it was fantastic, now have a Valentine 1 (only because I like the arrows, very handy) but the difference between them & the STi are minimal, I got my V1 for $500 2nd hand off TM, thats a typical sale price each week, some as low as $430 ish. That's one fine.
Hugs his V1
(which saved me on Friday night)

I don't want to turn this thread into a debate on whether they are or are not being banned etc. Definitely, the legality doesn't bother me, just wanna know if it'll still work ok should I have to hide it :D
