Hey I'm just looking to buy a bike again. I'm tossing up between these 2

I having difficulty deciding, could the fzr really have genuine 9000ks? I don't know much about fzr's either because I have only had another cbr. I'm also a bit iffy about how many more km's I could get out of the honda before it needs some serious work due to it's high mileage. I'm looking at keeping a new bike for a long time.

Any comments would be appreciated

Cheers

89 model, 9800km's, straight of a boat from Japan..... RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!

Nah seriously though, at the end of the day, take them both for a ride, and get them thoroughly checked over by a Motorcycle mechanic (including spark plug resistance/impedance, compression check, signs of rust or damage to frame)

Personally I reckon that CBR looks mint. The previous owner obviously cared for it a lot and provided it has been well looked after, should have plenty of km's left the engine.

Full repaint with lack of graphics = crashed hard and then fixed up for sale. Stay away.

the mc22 is a better bike than the fizzpop.

But yeah test ride them both. both bikes will have been crashed at some point in time. They are old 250's you can't buy a non crashed 80's-90's 250 that hasnt been crashed.

What does the above statement actually mean?

I've had the 400 version of both (actually...had a couple of fizzies). FZR is good on the handling and brakes. The CBR seems....well...better built. One of the fizzies I had like to drink a little oil but it never seemed any the worse for it.

I would normally say go for the CBR over the FZR. But if that FZR is genuine k's then id certainly go for it. Go look at it, check the tyres, see if they are the original old tyres from when it came out of the shop, and look at the disc's too see if they are worn at all. You will be able to tell if its genuine k's or not pretty easy. 9000km on a old bike like that isnt rare. I have seen a CBR250 with 1000km on it.

Go the CBR, such a mean bike I wish I still had my MC19, should never have sold it. Plus that one on trade me looks like its bean looked after like a baby

Based on the kms think very carefully about the CBR, also sounds like a lot of tinkering may have been done by "non-official" Honda mechanics. I personally wouldn't look at it.

Also I REALLY don't like this part of the CBR ad: "chiped out no speed cut or rev limiter does 243kph which is wear it hits redlint in top gear". Don't think it's had a sweet old lady owner.

The Fizzer looks good. The cleanliness of the engine, the amount of wear on the switches, how "tight" they feel, the quality of the seat surfaces and edges, the state of wear on the hand grips should give you a good idea of the bike's real mileage in general without riding it.

Then ride it and see how everything feels.

Let us know how you go:2thumbsup

the fzrs tend to drop valves after about 20000km (especialy that year) which is a big expence i personaly think the cbr would be more reliable even with higher ks

They dont drop valves. FZR400's are known for wearing out there inlet valves after say 50,000km if they have not regularly had there clearances checked.

Two Hunderd and Forty Three Kilometres per Hour in top gear...

Either his speedo is way out, it is a superduper megamodified twofiddy or you have to ask what else he is bullshitting about.

The FZR could have done 100000km in Japan.Speedo only goes up to that then starts again,Does it not?So look very carefully at its condition. If your not sure get it checked by a bike shop. The honda is bloody high in the ks .I would get the FZR checked out & give the Honda a miss. There are always others....

You would be able to tell VERY quickly if it has done 10,000 or 100,000km.

Hey I rode the Yamaha today. Didn't like it. It has obviously been sitting for long time gathering rust etc, genuine kms I reckon in it's defence. Might just have to go for the cbr.

Thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.

I'd still seriously go for the fzr. 90,000km, you will be bound to have to throw money at it regularly. Why dont you get the FZR and get it cleaned up? Wont cost much.

they dont drift as hard as the cbrs

But they both "drift" harder than VFR's Bwahahahah.

Oh yeah...FZR400. 8 replacement inlet valves + collets from Germany + 1 gasket set = very skint 19 year old student...these were the days.
