Anyone see the close up segment tonight on the bed/breakfast owner in Kaikoura allegedly paid out huge $ over the years for a back injury.Guilty or not is one thing and looking at the video of him landscaping it seems theres questions to be asked but after being investigated a few times ACC hasnt prosecuted him but for them to decline to appear on TV to answer said questions seems somewhat arrogant does it not,am sure its our money that was given to him so how do they have a right to not bother answering any questions that may arise?Seems at times these people forget who there working for and whose money they dish out willy nilly.Actually not at times it seems commonplace these days.

easily resolved. Vote National.

They will open it up to competition / private companies and assholes like that will be audited and sued like he deserves to be.

(although I admit thats wishful thinking)

Too many people live off sickness benefit and ACC - they need to get tough on this!!!!!!

I'll bet there's a lot of people at ACC going through all their old e-mails hoping this guys name doesn't show up. That way they can claim they never knew about it.

Dont start me on paying fucking ACC, got another bill from the arseholes the other day. They are nothing but bloody blood sucking leaches. We had private insurance one year a while ago. They changed it back when they realised they were gonna run out of money. Saved a small fortune that year, the biggest problem was we still got a bill from ACC for all the people still on ACC from previous injuries
At least with private insurance they will be more pro active in finding the scammers

I also know a man who is on his second back injury. This current one was as a result of weedeating his back yard at Xmas. He has recently had his second surgery to repair the damage.

He is able to walk, drive a car, stand up and sit down. He also goes fishing from time to time on a boat (not his btw). He has been seen at his former place of work talking to people, maybe picking something up. These things cause him some or huge discomfort depending on how long he does them for. He is no way fit to do a full days work, and probably wont ever be again, but to the casual observer he may be seen to be living it up on ACC. He is mid 40's, hard working and in pain 90% of the time, did I mention really pissed off about how he is reduced to living?

Never condemn unless you know the full story. I am sure there are some that rip the system off, not all do!

Fuck em.

My back gives me hell, has done for years ACC just stopped my payments and told me to sign up for the sicken benefit when they got sick of me.

Though I guess I deserved it, I asked for help in re-training so I could re-enter the work force.

Bastards.

Not condeming him yet Mom,my problem was with ACC declining to front up and talk about it.Personally i feel that if they are asked to they shouldnt have a decline option, its NZers money there handling so front up and explain.

Funny that similar thing happened to me. Fucked my knee and ended up on ACC, got sick of it after a very short time so i pissed of to Aussie for a change of work style to see if that would help. Got home sick after a year so came home. Went into ACC to see if they could help me into another job or any help, wasnt after a hand out, just some honest help and the fuckers told me cause i had been out of the country for more than a year they couldnt help me with anything. I was out of the country for 1 year and four days
What about all the ACC levies i had been paying all my life

Ever think of potting him in In my case yea i have thought about it the odd time but there both mates and both bikers,i do on the odd occasion remind them that my early mornings subsidise the enjoyment but hey, what do you do?Ironic thing is that in many cases these people earn more than me when you combine the benefit with the cash in hand income they receive.

And what happens when your actually sick and have no form of income and a family to feed.
It can and does happen.

I'm against getting rid off it completely. Look at what happens in the US of A, when it comes time to put a health insurance claim in. "But it wont happen here like that". Bollocks, eventdually it will.

Theres a million flaws, and competition will be good for acc :).

I think we should leave the poor bugger alone. You could tell he was in abject agony cutting that hedge and lifting those rocks. You must admire his inner strength and an obvious need to get on with his life not letting his disability holding him back in what he needs to do for, all be it painfull, quality of life. YEAH FUCKING RIGHT!!!Cunt's like that need to be strung up by their balls. That would give him something to claim ACC on!!!!

The stupid thing is when you're on ACC and want to work they won't let you unless a doctors certificate is given.Take it from me going from full time work one day to sickness then invalids next aint fun.A few years ago we had a director of a nationwide company moaning at smoko about paying ACC etc for staff, said a few points which were all wank factor crap,i.e paying for sports injuries, the boss shut him up quickly, the boss said he would much rather his staff play sport(so two of us said cool pay our rugby and soccer subs please),as the boss used to play rep hockey and ran marathons, because he said fitter staff were less prone to injuries at work and sickness. That was borne out by two ladies being away sick mid winter with the flu.

If you don't want to do it, name names or post the details, they will be reported to ACC within 24 hours, guaranteed...
ACC are 'kin useless for those who really need them, but some people know how to game the system and enjoy a lifestyle I can't afford, i don't know which is worse. feck, report them.

I too know a guy with an apparent back injury (a mate of a mate). It didn't stop him building a deck on his house alone. Nor helping with alterations on my mate's place. I find it difficult to believe he can't hold down a job because of this alledged injury. I believe he's been on ACC for 15-20 years

ACC is a pathetic joke and the taxpayer is the punchline. To get anything out of them you just have to be a committed bludger who knows the system, not a genuine claimant. I know this from personal experience in 2000. It's not like they could even deny the injuries I sustained - I made the from page of the Herald and was transported to hospital for a 10 day stay by the St John helicopter. But when attempting to get a brass razoo I was entitled to (my income stopped) after paying compulsory premiums my whole working life, you'd think the money was coming out of their own pockets and childrens mouths. Staffed by the country's most inept and unemployable, ACC's philosphy is to wear you down with their bureaucracy and stupidity, not to help you out.

Fuck them - fuck them all. :angry2:

Acc might suck but

This guy was doing a job for a tree company, was hired as an arborist. He was given a saw to use after his wasnt running properly. He suffered this injury and had to go to hospital. He was insured. BUT
His company wont cover him because he was using someone elses equipment, therefore not being a true contractor, the guy insurance who he was working for wont pay out because he was a contractor.
Hes got many 10's of thousands worth of medical bills, his wedding had to be cancelled and the insurance companies are playing pass the parcel via lawyers over a year later. He got no workmans comp, he got to pay the medical bills and has alot of bills still to come up.

Acc, it sucks but it often beats the alternatives. Just ask guys overseas about what they have to go through.

yep, acc are a right pain in the ass. when i got hit, i was off work for something like 2 weeks due to docs thinking a dusty xray lens was a broken leg. by the time the cast was off, and id worked my final shift before end of contract and found a new job, acc finally paid out. and in the end, it wasnt worth the hassle to get it paid. never mind the $80+ acc levie every time i registered the bike. its like getting blood out of a stone.

mom... im all for people with genuine complaints getting compo, but the guy in question was lugging heavy stuff around, something that should be impossible. i dont see your friend with the bad back managing that very easily.

I know of a scam where you know you are actually damaged, but work a month of double shifts anyway(making your injury worse btw) doubling your income, then when you claim acc you get paid on the basis of the last month or so, not your real pay....

I know someone who did this, now he's all fixed up but will only work for cash, cause it "stuffs up his compo"

The last time I hurt my back, if ACC wasnt picking up part of the cost of my Chiropractors fees I would not have visited any more than the bare minimum amount of times, this would have ment more time off work, and suffering a bad back for longer, it took me about 3 months to get my back into reasonable shape again. during this time I only had a couple of days off work.
ACC isnt a perfect system and never will be, and there will always be sombody who will try to play the system to there advantage.

Whythefuck don't people dob these leeches in?

After all, it's YOUR taxes they are living off - and we've got enough politicians leeching off us without ACC loser doing it too.
