Silly question, far from bikes lol.
Has anyone been to the latino dancing in Auckland.
I saw some on the Hive. DJ King Salsa at the mexican cafe and another called Club Salsa. They start late at night not sure when they close.
Anyway has any members been to these places before as I am taking my lady tonight but unsure which one to go to? and where to park.
I cant dance lol she can so its going to be fun.
Any help would be most apreciated.

You'll be right, for most of the basic stuff, it's the women doing the turns and spins etc :D

Eh Portokiwi, ever thought of taking a couple of lessons first? Just so you can both enjoy yourselves properly...I used to go to Ceroc, which is just a Rockn'roll equivalent, and from my experience, just turn up to the first one you find and try it. Then try another and settle for the one you feel most comfortable in...

Since your lady dances already, she'll enjoy herself no matter what, but you obviously need to learn a few basics, so make sure you feel comfortable with whoever teaches.

Oh and wear comfortable shoes that have a semi-slipping sole, it'll help.

Both of the places have teachers at the start of the night it says..... So even people like me with two left might learn a few moves,Has been our resident DJ for the past five years and continues to amaze with his sexy mix of salsa, samba, merengue, Latin pop and much more which has made him the most popular Latin DJ in Auckland.

Dance teachers will be available on hand to teach you all the right moves.

This performance the part of our two week fiesta to celebrate the Mexican Cafe's 25th anniversary - come and join us for live performances every night with dance teachers, spot prizes and a chance to meet a trip to Mexico

Club Salsa is Auckland's only Salsa Night Club and Tequila Bar.

Come to party, practice, socialize, meet new people, and have fun with your dancing in a relaxed and friendly environment . . .

Dance with someone new, a classmate, or a friend and move around the floor like no one is watching.

There’s always someone here at Club Salsa to dance with.

We play the most up-to-date music videos and salsa tracks while mixing in the classics on our huge screen.

Helpful instructors are always at hand to give you some pointers and teach the basics . . .

Happy hour = 12.00am - 1.00am - 30% off standard drink prices
SEE I might learn :wari:

SEE I might learn :wari:

Of course you will...and once you get into it, it is a lot of fun.

I've danced with a few guys who started out looking like concrete poles and they turned out to be pretty good after a few lessons.

Just remember that it is supposed to be fun! a lot of guys think too hard about it and turn into robots

Besides, latin dancing is basically sex in motion and with clothes on...it is the most fun you'll have while remaining non exhibitionist about it (well, sort of...) :D

:o Crap I look like I am having a fit trying to dance normal lol.
Oh this will be interesting. She has been trying to get me out to dance since she first met me allmost 3 years now. Even in Portugal I managed to avoid it lol.
Still it should be fun, No one knows me.

Exactly!! There is truly nothing worse than a man leading with a soft hand, making me wonder if I shoudl be dipping HIM into a drop...or one that jars my shoulder out of its socket at every turn, wanting to prove that he is masterful :argh:

The jury's still out on whether the Gallic love for hyperbole should constitute an actual criminal offense, y'know.

Still, it's good to see that you've caught the parts of Fred Astaire's films that showed him dancing, even if you missed the bits where his name was printed on screen.

So sue me! At least, I can half pretend being able to know what Mr Astaire does, and reply in kind...

mmmm...yes, I know. Let's just say that criticism gets to even the staunchest of us.

I got tired of negative comments and looked forward to some peace by toning it down a little.

Sorry if that is not as entertaining. I guess I'll get over it eventually and go all raunchy again :D

No bother :) I've yet to try tango, but looks like fun... if someone in KB land wants a partner to learn with and practice once a week, let me know :) Prefer somone under 6 foot around my own age... my salsa partner is a bit taller than me (I'm 6 ft) and it makes it interesting :D

Reminds me - I offered to do dance lessons again this year.
We did them a couple of years back, but while much of it was fun, I was on Bad Meds at the time, which made some of it too hard, and spoiled the fun.

generally dancing is a pretty practice heavy sport. you gotta practice on your own and practice with others and as many different people as will let you dance with them if you wanna get to competition level that is... now, I never did the big leagues in ballroom and latin, but in ballet I did many many comps (and my thighs still show the evidence from years of toil! oh and hockey ... lol) and they were wonderful, though I found that I had to stretch myself to the absolute limit in order to get anywhere. Meaning muscle stretching ANd stretching my energy to practice as much as I could!

Little Petal and myself train five nights a week these days (which is down from our previous six nights a week) for Ballroom comps. If ya don't put in the time, you don't get the benefit of all those expensive lessons you pay for. (Dancing has to be the most expensive way of showing off known to mankind.....). It also has the benefit of keeping the lard off my arse.......amongst others...

lol, i started dancing (as in structured dancing, not just bloopy dancing) when I was about 2 yars old. that was ballet hehe, it used to be my favorite passtime! now that I've moved here (abotu 8 years ago now lol) I stopped my ballet and went onto partner stuff. Wouldn't mind doing some solo stuff either though.

Actually, the price is one of the things I like... a year of salsa lessons costs less than a carbon fibre wheel for my bike! :2thumbsup

Haven't tried any ballroom, but I am looking around for a partner for Argentine Tango. I'll have to quit my Saturday job though, lessons are Saturday morning, so only really interested in taking it up with someone who would be serious about getting good.

true, sounds like fun :) it is something that you have to be interested in to do generally. otherwise there's no passion and it takes far longer to get ANYWHERE with dancing if you're a sulking sally about it.

What I love about Ballroom is the experience of "flight"...when it all turns weightless, when you and your partner become one moving flowing flying entity...no effort is involved, it just flows...bit like blasting through a sweeping corner on the bike with the throttle open and the tyre biting into the tarmac...
Only trouble is, the experience is not that common - we reckon that for every year of practice we do, we get two minutes of "flight"....sigh....

We used to do Latin as well but gave it away to concentrate on our other disciplines - Ballroom and New Vogue. Hard to be on top of three disciplines...
Besides, when the teachers get at you all the fun goes out the window....and it becomes W.O.R.K...:sweatdrop
Actually we do a little Latin now and then - just for fun....
