It is time for kb to decide,
who is better - clash or ramones?

My vote goes to the ram-ones as they have more awesome songs than the clash.
but they are a confused band lyrically.
Ram-Ones - I Wanna Be Sedated
Ramones - I Don't Want To Live This Life (Anymore)
Ramones - I Wanna Live
Ramones - I'm Not Afraid Of Life
Ramones - Too Tough To Die
Do they want to live or die? ahaha
fave song atm. Ramones - It's Not My Place (In The 9 To 5 World)

Got to be the Clash for me....saw them twice, when I lived in the States for a while....Saw the Ramones once, good show too, but the Clash I like more due to the social & political theme of a lot of thier songs

Ramones are OK till you listen to an album and realise that all their songs are in the same key. I have a best of and I defy anyone to listen to it in one sitting. So Clash it is.

THe complete pointlessness of arguing about music is illustrated nicely in this post. The Clash and the Ramones were both fantastic bands. Having said that The last good Clash album (and it is their best) was London Calling. There were flashes of brilliance in Sandinista, but basically they fell apart from there. I didnt like the Ramones back in the day, but Ive come to appreciate them. Their strength is their weaknss though: they did the same thing basically from 1974 till they retired in, what, 2002? If you listen to their songs (which I do, a lot) they are fairly obviously frustrated bubblegum popsong writers from the 1950's.
I used to have the same opinion of country music as you fairly obviously have of "punk" (whatever that means) rock. I don't have that opinion now.
My view is that there is gold in every genre of music, if you're willing to look and listen for it. Having said that, I'm yet to find it in opera, and commercial pop and current what they call "RnB" which is nothing like 60's soul music/RnB.
If you want, I could suggest some albums you could listen to. Start with London Calling. If you can, get the Ramones Anthology. We can take it from there.
And I just google searched/wiki-ed Trace Adkins. Might be worth checking out.... My alt-country collection has been stagnant for a while.

Ramones - good for the first couple then it all gets a bit deja vu.
Clash - good for a bit longer then it all gets a bit politics and then the reggae happens.
DKs - good for a bit longer again then Jello's screeching gets a bit much
The Damned ftw!

I was going to the Wellington show of that tour and was riding a bike up from Christchurch that day. I missed the f**********n 4pm ferry had to get the next one which got me into town just as all my mates were coming out of the wellington town hall, ears ringing, raving about the best concert they had ever been to.

not to mention the ugly ugly inter-band law suits between AT/Jello and the rest of them. Not cool
I havent listened to the Damned in years. I've got "New Rose" somewhere. And it must be time to resurrect Talking Heads, surely (given the revival of interest in the 80's: I hope they dont but the money might make it happen)

My vote goes to the Ramones but only just.
While The Clash were technically better songwriters, there's still a part of me that can't get over Gabba Gabba we accept you we accept you one of us.
Long live three chord thrash. :headbang:

I just like the rawness of the ramones lyrics oposed to the rawness of the clashes music. If that makes any sence.

Album wise neither band lives up to their reputation, Can't judge them as a Live act as I never got to see either.
Though I have drunk many a beer and indulged in a few sing-alongs......:wari::wari::wari:
