Prince Caspian - Three thumbs up

Awesome movie.

Full of stuff no one reckons matters any more and whoever did the battle scenes read his Clausewitz, and studied a bit of Gustavus Adolphus as well.

Siege mining, pincer movements, plans turning to crap, and the sheer balls required for that type of warfare were all on display in spades, plus throw in some battlefield misunderstanding that tends to be cast in black & white by modern dunderhead media types.

Decent sweet romance in small doses and some superb short jokes.

They never used to spare kids the realities of life, especially in books set in wartime.

A mate's daughter is off overseas on an exchange thingy and had a fundraiser at the Lighthouse in Petone. I paid $40 to avoid going to see Mama Mia and he promised not to tell Heather it was on.

Everyone wins.

Aaaahh...C.S.Lewis shares some of the most important wisdom and insight transformed to be palatable to the average human...its just that kids are innocent (as opposed to cynical) enough to understand these principals and truths. He is a very very smart man, have a look at "the Screwtape Letters".

Lots of fighting, death and betrayal in that lot, and I loved every minute.

I think it might be wise for you not to see "Prince Caspian" then. I went to "Prince Caspian" (without a child, very brave) and quite liked it, but it's in the same vein as "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", but with more battles.
