Hi everyone,

Here is our Endurance race entry form for the 3rd day of racing at the Taupo Road Race Spectacular.

This is being put out early, as we need to see how many entries we will have prior to our Nov. 1st cut off, so we know if we have a go/no-go situation.
More info will be provided, as we continue to establish the format for the day after more input from you racers.
It will be a Le-mans start race, and we will have nice trophies, and beer/bbq etc.

Cheques will not be banked until we have enough confirmed numbers.

Regards,
Scrivy :sweatdrop

The SV's are included with the F3 juniors.

This is for race bikes.
Safety must come into it, as road bikes would not lap at the same speeds as race bikes, and they would not comply with all the rules required for scrutineering etc.

Race 1 Junior will be for any motorcycle under 600cc, but will also include 650 Pro Twins and will be of a 1 hour duration. (150S/S or unsuitable bikes ineligible due to safety reasons). This is for F3 type bikes and hence SV650's are in this class.
Race 2 Senior will be for any motorcycle over 600cc, (excluding 650 Pro Twins) and will be of a 3 hour duration. 600cc bikes and above will race together with the larger bikes - but will have seperate trophies awarded.

If your bike has 600cc written on it, then it will be classed as a 600 and race in the senior class - same as 600ss race in the 600ss class (even if only 599cc.....)

Either 2 rider or solo. Like a bridge game really - ya don't need a partner if ya have a good hand.........

Our aim is to get as many bikes out there competing in a longer than normal race at the least possible cost to you guys, and still have nice trophies for your efforts! (Oh, and beers and BBQ etc....)
The whole goal of Chris Lawrance and myself is to get heaps of people to socialise, talk bikes, race hard & talk shite at 1 venue for a long time. Much like Daytonas speed week. We all love what we do, it's a unique sport, and one that we are all passionate about, so why not share all our stories and ideals together.
(Shit, it sounds like we're throwing the keys in the middle..........):devil2:

Dude, that was the T.R.R.S. and things were lax so you could get track time. The endurance races will be more controlled, so gear must be up to the mark. Don't want an un-lockwired sump bolt ruining the day for all the rest do we..... stuff like that.......

BTW, those trophies would look good on my shelf.......... if I was a trophy hunter...............

Yeah, 3 days of racing means lots of marshalls. We do pay our marshalls at our event, and provide them free lunches and also the end of day BBQ and Beers/juice etc.
I will need lots of them obviously, so if you want a great job, in a great location, with great friends, watching awesome racing up close, and socialising with the best guys/gals around, and be paid to do it, then please PM me so I can tick that job off my ever growing list!!

Oh yeah, did i mention you'd have to actually work too.............? No such thing as a free lunch...... :bleh:

Quick question 2 riders entry fee 120 each i am guessing

It's $120 per junior class bike. If you're doing it superman, it's $120. If you're sharing 1 bike with two riders, it's $120!! I want more riders to compete in this event, hence I'm keeping the costs as low as possible for you guys.

Just letting you guy/gals know that you can put your entry form in for the endurance races, and can pay us alot closer to the day, or even post date your cheques to mid December. I'm not too concerned about getting the money yet, but I definately need to know numbers of entries ASAP. As soon as I get a feel for numbers, then I can continue planning the rest of the meeting.
There's some pretty good named entries so far. Oh, I dont mean Stroudy etc... I mean, Sloan Frost & co., Jamie Rajek & co., Tony Rees & co, Kiwifruitie bixs & himself..... (although he should do it on that Busa he was on today....) and a few more.
I've heard there are quite a few that want to do it, so get ya entry in quickly, and pay us later. Don't miss out on this event. First in - first served!

If you are going to do this event, PLEASE fax an entry form to me on (07 376 8462), or send an entry form off to Chris Lawrance at Box 121322, Henderson, Auckland.
Dont fret about sending the money yet, we just need your entry form back ASAP so we can determine entries.
We currently have 9 for the senior class, and 6 for the Junior class. We need at least 20 in each for this event to go forward.
Also, if you are a club level rider, don't panic, there will be others like you doing this event - you don't have to be a seasoned pro like Trashie or Drew............:shifty:

How about, we're both going to ride her in the 3-hour.

The fruity one will go out and stick some time into the other riders, and then hand the bike to me to wallow around on trying not to let people past for a few laps, etc.

It'll be awesome.

On a serious note guys & girls.
Having spent a couple of days with Scrivy, one thing that came up is that the entries for this event are, at this stage insufficent to obtain the desired result.
The entry fees dont need to be paid until the day if need be, but PLEASE people, let the man know if you are in.
The waters were tested with this thead http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=75827 but so far a number of the supporters have not followed it up with a entries.
If you are a starter for this event, please P.M Scrivy or myself to confirm, (Scrivy will be away for a few days) the paperwork can come later.
If the event dosent go ahead the organiser will be out of pocket several thousand dollars & this kind of event will never be attempted again, so think about it.
As per usual with a Scrivy run event, the entry fees are more than reasonable & are barely sufficent to cover costs because he runs these things out of passion for the sport, not to make money (a rare quality in these times)
All you guys that get off on the coro loop etc, why dont you enter a few of your road bikes, The wear on your bikes will be similar to a day in the twisties & there are no cars to worry about.
Looking forward to hearing from you all in the next week with your confirmation of entry.
Cheers,
Steve Bryan.

As with almost all motorcycle races in New Zealand now, in the interests of safety you'll need a qualifying cut off time. 115% of the pole time.

This appears harsh to the folks that just want to go for a hoon on their road bike and do laps of Taupo, but Mrs Kendog if you can make a rear tyre last 3-4 hours of that track, you simply are not going to be within that cut off time.

For example, pole position is set with a 1.34. Anyone slower than 1.48 per lap misses that cut off. It also means the slowest riders are going to be lapped by the fastest every 7 laps. I can personally swap the rear wheel in my bike in under one minute and I'd anticipate making a rear tyre last 45-50 laps. By this stage the top riders will be seven laps up on the slowest.

As you can see, tyre preservation is important, but extreme tyre preservation is too detrimental to lap times.

That basically put me off.... that and having to shell out for tyres, so decided to just concentrate on racing in the buckets.

I going to take make the assumption you have never raced for real on a racetrack.

People should remember that this is aint going to be your everyday track day where passing on the inside is not allowed etc its a race! People are there to win. If you are racing the guy in front of you and you come up to back marker you not going to wait for the safest spot to overtake you going to do it with some risk to keep close to the guy in front.

So for those who might get lapped my suggestion would be to get off the racing line as soon as you see that blue flag. (as per the rules)

Dont get me wrong im all for this event we need a good racing event in NZ

As for the bit I've put in bold...Yes you will wait for the safest spot to pass or you will be black-flagged if you're seen putting others at unnecessary risk, or worse, take out another rider. But if you're that good a racer you'll just go round the outside or up the inside without a problem.

I could be wrong (I often am according to my wife) but I think the %115 rule is actually an MNZ one, and therefore as an MNZ permited event it would have to abide by that anyway.

And as a racer (kind of) myself, I know that coming up on someone that is going considerably slower can always be a gamble, even in a straight line. You just never know when thay may change their line and you often wont have much time (if any) to compensate

And MY understanding is that the warning is for you to HOLD your line so the person overtaking doesn't have to GUESS which way you will go.

And I guess if I am about to be lapped I am using the wrong lines anyway

Any advice to move to get out of the way is bad advice even if it is a pisstake, you never know who will read it and think thats the way it should be done

And MY understanding is that the warning is for you to HOLD your line so the person overtaking doesn't have to GUESS which way you will go.

At least you got how you should do it right

6-10 When overtaking, the onus is on the overtaking competitor to overtake without causing interference to the overtaken competitor.

The person being passed doesn't have to do shit and shouldn't be trying to get out of the way as they may move straight into someone else coming around the other side

Well, sadly to say the Juniors is still at 6. We won't receive another 14 in 10 days, so their class is unfortunately going to be scrapped.
The seniors (in size - not age ) are still at 16, although I have only received 12 entries in my hand as yet, and another 4 entries confirmed, but yet to receive.

Not having the Juniors race (20 bikes at $120) makes me loose another $2400. I will still try to put on the senior race if we get to 20, but I will go backwards financially pretty quickly!! All the things I wanted to do with this Endurance meet will have to wait. It's a damn shame. I'd love to see 30-40 bikes going hard for 3 hours, and so too would the public.
I still can't believe in this bike mad country that we can't scrape together 40 mis-fit bike mad nutters for this!!

Im sure that won't be too much of a problem.

I don't race SS150 anymore, but will for this event. (If this is allowed).
I can think of a good 5 150's who would do it.
A fast 150 will do sub 2 minute laps on the full track. Ive done 1:57's on my 150. Considering most of the Juniour endurance racers are track day junkies, surely the option of having 150's in there as well wont be a big deal?

Could be worthy idea, too help pull entries in. The SS150 crowd is quite a close bunch.

Since the jnr side of things are looking like they will be scraped is there any chance of us being a extra class on the day for a couple of sprint races to fill in the day this way if the day goes on you will still get extra cash from us but just not running us as a endro setup... just an idea.
its a total shame that this is the case as for jnr bikes dont get a chance to run in endurance races I would have thought that half of the f3 fields and pre89 jnrs from club racing would be keen on this, i guess total loss ignition is the killer with some guys.

If there are any more interested people to do the Junior class, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me your intentions prior to Saturday night, as we may just scrape enough together ???? I know I've said the juniors are canned, but we've had a few more give us entries - still way below the 20 at this stage, but it just might get there if people pull finger...... after all, the juniors is only for 1 hour!!!

Jamie Rajek has been putting in the hard yards for me a bit lately, and has tried to get some prizemoney up for grabs. I don't know if it's 100% yet, but if it is , it makes it even better for some of you!!

I just hope this goes ahead.
Even though I lose money on this event, I can't see anyone else prepared to do that also, so can't see this being attempted again in the near future.
