Hey guys, I've spotted a 2 Stroke '89 Honda NSR 250R for sale and it's going cheap, probably below in my price range too! :). Just wanting comments on it, being 2 Stroke, I haven't had a go on one before and all.
It probably isn't the one for me as I'd be doing a lot of town riding with short trips (and some bloody long ones too mind you! :D )
It's only done 24,490km
Here she is:

Hi Ant, yup, nice bikes.
Remember all that free time you had? Now half it cos that is what you will be doing for maintence.
2 Stroke bikes are fun to ride, (lots a zip), but be careful you dont buy a lemon. It's easy done. How to tell?
1st: take heads off, check for damage etc.....
My RGV is a great bike, but anoying to ride around town, sux in traffic, but soooooo much fun on the open road.
If you can, that 150 I would keep for commuting, and the nsr for hoon days.
What model is it?
I've got a friend who has a few and knows a bit about them.

Look like the older one? MC 18 or 21?

I'd have to sell the 150 to get a new one. Maybe I am dreaming and I should keep the Suzi. I think I might :)
150's are fun :D

hmmm, yeah...
the racing 250 strokers seem to have a reputation for throwing wobblies and blowing up a lot. RGVs, TZRs, NSRs etc... dunno if I'd want one as main transport. Good for a track bike if you have the cash for one I suppose.
If you feel like you need a 250, go for one of the 4-stroke 4s - ZXR, CBR, etc. Quick enough to have fun on, and a *hell* of a lot more bulletproof. I managed to not embarrass myself while racing a WRX down the northwestern motorway during a ZXR250 test-ride... believe me, one of those would do the trick for you, I'm sure :D
*Or* you could stick with the FXR. Take it to Colemans if you're down here sometime and get it tuned... they'll rejet the carb for you. Did it to mine on its second service when I took it to them. Burps and grumbles a lot at low revs, and fuel consumption is definitely poorer, but FARK ME! it has a bit of punch now... I'm sure I could take on some of you high-and-mighty 250 riders through the twisties :niceone:

Yeah I'm sticking with the FXR. I'll probably keep it for good and just have it as a stuff around cycle when I upgrade. Or give it to the missus.
Cheers guys,
JR - I'll hold you to that :D
*rides down to Colemans*

I'm still really considering buying this beast... it having a nice fat tyre and dual exhaust, while looking mighty fine really sells me.
Would I really be having to fix it up all the time?
How bad for short trips would it be?
UGH!!!!

Can you post back a bit more about it?
Model #, km, owners history, reason for selling?
Great bikes, but yes, much more maintence required than the Suzi.
awesome fun on twisty roads. Killed more learner riders that any other bike! Bags of fun!:gob:
Nah, I really enjoy my RGV, but can be a real dog to ride in traffic.
Lets know more about it:rockon:

Email 'MrMelon", He's had his 250 two stroke now for long enough to tell you what it's like to commute on (in Wellington).

youd probably get a shock coming off of the fxr just in running costs alone, let alone the thing blowing up.
set of tyres: $400 at least that last what? 5000kms?
have you read the thread on the cost of two stroke oil?
then theres the gas bill. Theyre pretty renowned for their ability to suck it back, but that's the unavoidable cost of going fast I guess.:D Someone who actually has one could best tell you about that.
gotta ask yourself why the guy himself bought an fzr250 instead?
Dont sell the old fxr too short. Its your first bike, the one you learned to ride on and probably after its gone, the one you'll have the fondest memories of. ( Probably whilst kicking another half dismantled, non functioning bike)

Don't waste your time thinking about sub 250cc bikes. Save your money for a bigger bike once you get your full.

When I was looking for a RS250 one of the KB'ers mates had one for sale. I think it was 750Y?
He only used it for commuting and said it was great, very reliable, fun and good in traffic . Was selling it to get a newer bike, had it for several years.
So it couldn't have been that unreliable.

hehe, maybe he reliably wrung its neck each day? Thats what most responsible two stroke 250 owners do! I mean, the bikes really do sound pretty shocking so you really gotta make them hurtle to let people appreciate the din they're putting out! (SURELY!.. or is this KK logic?)

I'm still loving my tzr250.. It's not really a pain to commute on, heaps of fun around town. Stops fast. Goes fast.
I got 250km out of $11 gas (before hitting reserve) the other day quite comfortably, and that wasn't taking it particularly easy either.
The cost of 2 stroke oil is a bit of a bitch, but you only have to put a litre in every 4 tanks of gas (1000-1200km or so) so it's not really that bad.

Hello.

Congratulations on dredging a 3 1/2 year old thread, though. That's gotta be some kind of record.

Not a bad effort indeed! I'm guessing he did a search for nsr....

3 1/2 years, wow, that must be a record for a dredge!
