View Full Version : McJim & Chickadee Bikes up for sale soon

Well it's come to this.

I've had to take a bit of a salary downgrade coz I'd forgotten what my children looked like. The new job is definately more my cuppa though. Something has had to give and unfortunately it looks like it's the bikes. Need to tart them up a bit for sale o'course but thought I'd just throw it out there that we'll be putting them up on retardme over the next month or so to give us a lump o'cash to keep us heads above water.

If anyone wants to nip in early with an offer feel free to do so, bikes are as follows:

2006 Suzuki GSX750F - 27,500km and all services religiously adhered to.
1997 Ducati 600ss - 51,000km - belts changed at 40,000km, Just had an oil & filter change. Pics available on my attachments and in my gallery.

The reason this isn't in the trading section is that the format forced me to write an ad...which I'm not ready to do until the bikes are all tarted up for sale...

Cheers all.

Nah, it'll be pedals for me. Back to my bicycle road racing roots methinks.

Until the kids go to school and the missus gets a job of course...THEN I'm gonna get a 1098 for having to make the sacrifice in the meantime :devil2: (or at the very least a 749)

Sad news Jamie. And this talk of going back to the 'other side' is quite worrying.

Don't do it! Don't join the dark side (or is it the other way around?)

You can sacrifice children just as well - the pagan spirits of the south will very much appreciate this.

Or at least get one of those strap-ons for your pushbike... I mean one of those little 60 ccm two-stroke engines, they'd pretty much have to let you into the rallies then... Two wheels and an engine

All jokes aside, sorry to hear it - hope you'll get a good price for your lovelies! (And I hope your children will grow up to appreciate your sacrifice and not to become ingrateful P-dealing scum :p)
If you hurry up and get your kids through the system in let's say 3-6 months instead of the normal 10+ years DMNTD might have a 1098 for sale when you're done.

:gob: Crikey, sorry to hear that matey, but know the reasoning and you being a canny Scotsman and all, it all makes sound sense. I reckon you should just keep a nice little A100 or something to keep ticking around on, just to keep your hand in !

And like you said, you can always pick it up later when the timing is right!

(I guess when I come down your ways, you can always have a wee blat on whatever I decided to ride down on! :scooter:)

Sad to hear this McJim.....been there done that.....

Maybe not my place to give you advice.....BUT you won't be doing yourself or yours any favours by sacrificing to much of yourself......

Kids need time and attention.......and happy parents.
If you give away to much of yourself, you may not be the father/partner your family deserves.

You and your partner have to invest in yourselves as well, you are the kids biggest assets.......

F**k money!

( bad advice coming from somebody who spends more then half his life at sea.............I know, trust me I know.....)

Rule #1 : Never Sell A Ducati

Rule #2: Always Obey Rule #1

Do Not Do It

You will never get anything like what it's worth to you.

Dont warrant it, dont register it. Jush it to the back of the garage, cover with a sheet, spend nothing on it and leave it there.

One day (pretty soon) the kids will be bigger, 'er-in-doors will be in paid employment and you will have the time, the money and the inclination to go ride...

Been there, still doing that...

Been down that road McJim.
Sold my wife and kept the bitch with the sprogs.
Bitch became a real bitch and went playing with another gearstick, left me with the sprogs, but she kept the house.( fucking lawyers)
Not saying that will happen to you, you got a bike savey woman.
Wish I had parked the bike at my mums. Chained it to the spot so to speak. and put it in her name. But! Sold it to pay those bills!
Was a hard slog for the next 15 years, but I got my freedom back, with two sons as a bonus. Sadly no bike.
Ended up with a 25y old Jappa. when I could have still had the Sporty.
The bills didnt end up crippling us, we just saved in other places, but the bike was gone and in retrospect it didnt have to go.
Tighten the belt and give up some other luxuries, the ones that are not in your blood like the bike is.
The bonus will be in 10 years time, you will have the lowest milage duke around, and one you know well.

But after all that I will give you the respect you deserve. Family first, always.

We will see you at the odd event, Biking is in the blood...its a disease!

It's called Flat Red by JvB Moto of Koln (Cologne) Germany.

They've taken a late model 900ss and stripped it down then rebuilt it differently.

Not having been a rider for very long, I can understand how hard it must be to give up something that I'm sure you truely love to do.
More power to you!!! There is life after children you will have your time again.
Sadly they grow up and leave home but it is at this time that you can indulge your passion for riding once again.
Good luck with the new job.

Well they're not quite gone yet since one of the disadvantages of a senior management position is a long notice period.

It's prudent to wait until the warmenr weather approaches to entice people to buy a bike (hiding to nothing tryint to sell it in the Winter).

We will be trying to get babysitters and get out for a wee blat together before the bikes are gone.

sell the missus bike and keep yours.

There are two reasons for this.

Woman are ment to ride pillion.
You wont get much change out of sweet FA for your bike.

Its a sacrifice your missus is going to have to make.

'Ere we go then.

First bike is up for sale. Silly low reserve by the way so I don't want any numbnuts bidding to see how low the reserve is and than saying "I didn't mean to buy it! - I was drunk" (you know who you are)

If I get enough for this one I'll keep the Duchess. If I don't manage to sell it (which at the reserve I'm asking shouldn't happen) or don't sell it for enough I actually have a private buyer already very interested in the Ducati so it probably won't even reach Trademe.

Cheers for the best wishes and advice folks....in fact someone could bid on the bike, get it for it's reserve price and sell it for a profit! c'mon, you know you want to!

As I've said before this is not the final nail in the coffin for our biking lives. If we can get the right childcare there is a good chance the missus can go back to work. Then she has said she want's to by a Monster.

The unfortunate thing at the moment is that all the childcare spaces are full down here.

So it's a big if at the moment.

My daughter is in Dunedin and has the same problem with child care there. She has had to cut down to working 12 hour shifts on the weekends when her husband is at home to look after them. Good luck which ever way it goes.

Come on fella...think laterally! Heard of Barnardos child care?
Mrs McJim could start her own child care in your own home thus negating the requirement of selling either of said steeds.
One of the mothers to one of my kids used to do it....paid OK too.

Does Chickadee ride the Ducati at all? What if there was a way that you could both use the same bike (at different times of course)?

McJim
11th August 2008, 23:23
Well, after some soul searching and some budgeting and some reworking of the budget and a 3rd shaving of some of the budgeted items and in light of the fact that the reserve has now been met on the 'Zuki.....I have elected to keep the Duchess (my nickname for my Ducati coz she's definately a she and is petite and in no way a Duke) Chickadee is happy with this decision and has elected to borrow the Ducati from time to time. The reason she hasn't borrowed it before was coz of all the noise it makes she thought it was a really grunty agressive sports 600. I have taken pains to explain that the Ducati 600 has much less power than the GSX750 and she has agreed to try it out.

Anyway - see the signature - a bargain 750 for sale in fine condition. Happy bidding!

Na, thats crazy shit man... so if ya have to stand down for a year so what... it costs nothing to have a rego on hold bike sitting in the garage, tighten security up and no insurance neded either however for a very little you can get a storage insurance.

Now the little you will get for it when it comes to buy another... it will cost twice as much and you will have saved SFA.

We needed to sell at least one bike to clear a debt that we won't be able to service on the new salary. We're down to one bike but I'm pretty sure Chickadee will fall in love with the Ducati after a few open road runs.

Good compromise Jamie, didn't like to suggest it because you know your circustances best, but you won't regret keeping the Duchess. We need to go for a blat soon - this weekend maybe?

FWIW I gave up biking for 11 years while my children were young. Luckily I was able to store the BMW so it was sitting there, covered in dust and the odd bird poop, slightly rusted, but ready to go when the time came.

Come to think of it, it's gone back into storage now the Yellow Terror has arrived :D

Tis a tough one Jamie. I really miss not having a bike now but keeping a roof over our heads and feeding the 3 kids became a priority. Even with selling the bike and my VR4 the overdraft is beginning to rise again - christ I don't do anything anymore - but this country is getting too expensive to live in. Missus can't get a job that is flexible enough to work around the kids and then the childcare fees wipe out any potential earnings anyway. If you can keep the Duc then do it coz my garage and life is very empty without a bike and now it's gone I can't see when I'll ever get one again.

Too late for that mate - the missus sold the GSX and today she killed the Duchess http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1711533
She's a bit battered and bruised but her pride is more damaged than anything else.

On the home front - have you considered a move to Invercargill? If you can sell your house in the current market (not easy I know) you will get another much nicer one for much less down here. If you get a chance to take a holiday you are more than welcome to come down and try it for a week chez McJim.
