Yeah i mean the aprilia rs125, they would get smoked by a honda rs125. I think the 125 is a gp class like the aprilia rs250 can race f3 but the honda rs250 has to race f2

I'm not too sure on that. I think you are supposed to leave them standard engine wise. Best best is to get a rg150. Cheap and common.

or an NSR 150, or CBR150RR or FXR 150.
The rules are very clear in on MNZ site, tho the Vic club has supplementary rules to include 250 four strokes and also have different tyre rules.
The Aprilia is legal, we've had them racing in SS before

Vic club now run seperate points for 250 four strokes and 150 two strokes.
I think it would be cool to see some eurobikes out there with the local thai stuff but even being a bit of a fan I'm on an rg coz it is the HEAPS cheaper option.

yes your right there oyster.. i was a bit on the merry side..
but the tire rule you were talking about...
we had a "discussion" with a couple of riders at the last meet. we are now ruled by the MNZ...
NO SLICKS of any kind ( this INCLUDES wets!!!)
and i think after last weeks races AJ ( the MNZ steward) would have to be pretty anal to ban us from racing if it got too wet....

what?!
Is that a new MNZ rule? Or just enforced on the vic club?

read the MNZ rule big boy..
this decision was made over the phone by the big guy himself!!!!
yes the boss of MNZ just happened to be phoning a person in the same room as this discussion was taking place
AJ (MNZ rep) handed th phone to the person concerned (complainant).. he was instructed in no uncertain terms
"NO SLICKS OF ANY KIND
"NO TIRE WARMERS"
to the complainant credit, he was very good. no bitching, no waving of arms.. just... here is my case... when he got the answer he was ...happy.ish, but he did not carry on like a spoiled kid, he just got on with racing... in the rules, then the race was abandoned.. bugger

ok prob easiest if i just post here.
http://www.motorcyclingnz.co.nz/download/Chapter_22_Road_Racing.pdf
Page 15/16.
MNZ says:
22- 12- 10
2.
"the choice of tyre is optional, either a slick or a DOT/europeanroad tyre available to the public. (no gooved slicks, modifications or treatment allowed to the tyres)"
3.
Tyre warmers are not allowed.
Vic club supplimentary regs list "soft compound DOT road tyres" as a choice of modification, no mention of slicks.
I take that to mean that at winter series the MNZ rules apply subject to modification by the Vic Club Supplementary regs.
So if it is a MNZ rule it is new and no bastard knows whats going on!

It's true.
MNZ is saying they are allowed, Vic Club doesn't even really mention it.
You can see how Patrick and Zane were easily confused.

BULLSHIT!!! The Vic club entry form has it clearly stated DOT approved tyres only and its on the vic club website under racing and then streetstock and there was an extra riders breif for streetstock riders at the last round for it to be explained

THat's right. you could run the aprilia 125 or mito, but you can't big bore. That would defeat the object of street stock.

Fair enough. I hope the South Islander lads who are coming up for RD5 know about this, because last year i saw at least 4 running slicks.
Not my class anymore, ill leave it there.

The team from the SI last year were all compliant to MNZ rules, which were the same as MNZ rules at this time. This year the team will (again) be compliant to the Vic rules (new for 2008) except we assume "DOT" is a misprint, as most of the bikes are on Bridgestone BT39SS or Dunlop TT900GP. These tyres are not DOT rated, but EU and / or JIS
Also, almost all will have 80/90 fronts, which aren't allowed in the MNZ gazetted list. Again, we assume another misprint. We've tried to have it corrected several times without success
And who was this MNZ "big boss"? Sandry Perry (President) or Paul Stewart (RR Commissioner)? One can only assume they were stating their interpretation of the MNZ rules, WITH the Vic club Supp rules added
