I had mine replaced earlier this year too, physically went into Darby's to swap it out as at that stage it was my only jacket. I pointed out a few they had in stock that looked like they'd develop the same problem, they assured me they would be sending them back to Spool. Given the QC tagged had a recuring pattern I'd say in general their gear is fine, but one slacker on the production line has probably had a stern talking to

Had mine for over 2 years and find it very good. It's not as waterproof as it was but probably just needs another clean.

Best you check the table and the chairs to see if their coverings are damaged too mate! I am sure YOUR wife loves being referred to like an inanimate object!

I had a slow speed(30k/h) bin earler this year and the stitching popped and I mean popped! not ripped, from waist to shoulder. Darbys wouldnt replace or repair ,it cost me $30 to restitch although they said it wasent designed to last and offered me a discount on a $750 jacket........ppppppppppffffffffttttt I said. I had paid $200 already for it a few weeks b4 and had bought a 2nd one for my partner the day I binned(she wasent with me). I could have been a ongoing supporter of Darbys had they just offered to restitch it but now they can &%$& off.:angry2:

Haha, you just don't get over it do you? You honestly expect gear to last through an impact severe enough to brake multiple major bones?

It's the old case of you get what you pay for - Spool gear is great, within the bounds of the price bracket it is in. $30 for a repair to keep a $200 jacket going doesn't sound bad to me, especially when no-one is going to give you warranty on a clothing article that has been damaged in a crash regardless of brand, quality or shop/wholesaler - different story if it had just popped apart all by itself.
And if you were considering being an ongoing supporter of Darbi's you could at least learn their name.....

Did the jacket get replaced/repaired under warranty?
If so then I'm not sure what your point is.
Spool is a mass produced product and as such is subject to the vagaries of manufacturing, sometimes shit happens like a seam doesn't get sewn properly or a zip fails or whatever.
Even top end product like Alpinestars/Dainese etc suffer from these issues occasionally, for that matter so do bikes or any other product.
What is important is the putting it right in as speedy a fashion as practicable.
From what Miss L said in her post it sounds like Darbi's/Spool are onto the problem so unless you are getting the run around by the shop or the wholesaler then what is the issue?
BTW 156-208 days a year use hardly qualifies as occasional use.....

as I said it wasent ripped apart it came unstitched, just like the top of a paper sack of spuds. It dosent take major impact to break bones pal..... I had got over it till you dredged it up again....ya pillock.:argh:

It's known to be pretty crappy gear, but then, it ain't very expensive. You pays your money and you takes your chances :) If it's cheap enough, and doesn't die halfway through a bin, then perhaps that's ok

How often have your race leathers burst open at the seam Jay ? That said if you are gonna crash do it in good leather , triple stitched at impact points none of the cordura stuff is much cop when it hits the tarmac , holes too easy .

Agreed re the leather comments, but that's not strictly correct re Cordura. If it's the proper denier Cordura for the intended use its highly abrasion resistant - unfortunately a lot of the low-mid end priced Cordura gear is either not Cordura but a copycat material with a similar look or is too light a denier for its intended use, but that comes back to the get what you pay for scenario....

Red baron Gave credit note for the full purchase purchase value of the jacket and notified us that we could have original back for 50 bucks if we wanted it payable to the importer in Albany cos they sell these off for 50 bucks at their warehouse. Big thumbs up to Tony at Red Baron

I've had two splits, one in the bum of a set of spools, where I wore through the stiching, and the other in another brand earlier on in my career. Funnily enough, I have done exactly what Flathead described, crashing off a pushie actually, wearing Cordura/Nylon, and tore the material through with the thread. it seemed to me that when I hit the ground the material gripped (wasn't fast enough to slide) and the thread being stronger than the material caused it to rip.
I agree with you, Cordura is great for its weather protecting properties, but it isn't up to much impact wise...both for wearing through and splitting...I don't know how many non-leather jackets I would trust to hold together in crashes on NZ's coarse chip.

$200! You were ripped off!
Riding gear should only cost 20 quid & be able to survive orbit re-entry.
Let’s get all grumbly & angry. You wouldn’t be English by any chance?
