View Full Version : Shit! - Warped disc???

So I've been one of those people who's always laughed at people who drive off forgetting about their disc locks......

Well I found me laughing at myself today... I had one of those really chunky Xena disc locks and I got on my bike and rode off and doh! the disc lock is still on it!

At first it didn't seem like it was damaged so started to ride home but as soon as it picked up speed I could feel that the disc was warped or something was anyway as it started ticking away at every turn of the wheel and judders pretty bad when braking.

So I've had a read though here and I understand that I wouldn't be able to repair this am I right? Sucks since the discs were almost brand new when I bought them about 2000km ago :pinch:

Anyway, I saw listings for disc sets for CBR400RR NC29. Now I have a CBR400RR NC23 (1988) does anyone know if they use the same discs? it's really strange as all the listings I've seen say NC29 (1988-1999) and since it was NC23 until 1991 I believe. I've seen them for fairly good price on ebay but just want to make sure I get the right one before I ship it all the way here from the states or Hong Kong.

Thanks for any helpful response!

Thanks for that that's really great price!

Do you know if the prices are for the pair or for each rotor?

Thanks

Cheers.

I just found some rotors on ebay which are actually the one that's identical to the one on my bike at a very good price. they're a set of two for about 260NZD shipped so I'll have a spare rotor at the end as well.

The only down side is they didn't have a buy now so I have to wait till the auction is finished in a week then wait until the item gets to NZ from Hong Kong... :zzzz:

Hold your horses on that order - ring these guys first - they are only a city away from you.

bugger - I've already placed a bid on the auction. I'll have to hope that someone bids above me before the auction ends that's a great price!

Thanks will give them a ring and see what they can do.

So the guy on ebay wasn't returning my emails so retracted my bid and sent the rotor to steve at f1e motorcycle works today. (the rapidparts website above)

Sent it by courier so it would be interesting to see how long it takes (maybe if I'm really lucky I'll have it for the weekend - not a chance...)

Got the rotor back yesterday.

Awesome turn around time sent the rotor to Steve on Tuesday, he got it wednesday sent it to me thursday and I received it Friday.

Cost just 80 including postage. It seems that it was bent a fair bit and steve wasn't able to bend it back perfectly but it's pretty damn good and perfectly ridable. I did a fairly extensive brake testing yesterday and it seems that I can only feel a little bit of ticking when braking with medium force at low speeds and can't notice it at all at high speeds.

Overall I'm really happy with it.
