Traded the TL1000s in today on a busa. The TL was turning me into a hoon.Missus has always liked them so....Anyway went and got one.(Three years of debt)Started raining on the way home so parked it up.My real question is how much power have they got above 5 to six grand?I've only been tooling round on it and it seems to have so much useable grunt below four grand that I haven't used anything above that.Too be honest I'm intimidated by the power thats lurking in the higher rev range.

i did the same about 4 years ago. had both for a while though. rode the TL after a month on the busa. found myself at full throttle everywhere trying for the same performance.
welcome to the world of magic mirrors, and actually having to hang on when you accellerate hard. your face will change into one of disbelief and grinning once you find that 'over 5000rpm' place - the brutal pull and speed in 3rd & 4th gear to redline will blow you away.
which busa did you get? pix?

Can't find the cable for the camera.Blue and silver paint.2001.The 'busa is way different to the TL and it's good for that sort of feedback.I've been doubting my sanity all day about buying it but the 'busa ,kind of encourages more sensible riding. It took a week or so before I was seeing the full power of the TL and I couldn't sleep.I was lying awake thinking about how fast it was.

Agree with Marty. You haven't ridden a Busa till you've had it to red line in first 3 gears! About 7-8 grand it comes on real strong.

The TL would just power stand of the mark on the throttle. Is the 'busa going do the same at higher speed?

Never ridden a Busa but followed one through some real tight stuff over on the west coast, watching the back wheel let go under acceleration was pretty awsome, got talking to the guy up the road a bit,he loved it to bits.Enjoy your new ride.:2thumbsup

Na - it will come up in first but get your weight forward & short shift if it does. They come up reasonably slowly so keep your foot hovering over the footbrake.

The TL had done some miles and it was a shit hot bike, but it had, had a hard life. The gas tank rusted thru ,the rear suspension was rock hard and squeaked badly.By comparasion the bus is lke brand new.Two up and some big miles is why I got it.Guess in the next couple of rides I'll find out what the power is like, but the bus is so easy to just float around on.In the back of mind I was thinking "maybe it's too much".BIG MILES AND BIGGER SMILES

Stop posting questions about how fast it is and go ride the thing! I rode my R1 all day when I first got it and constantly kept pushing the revs a bit at a time to get a feel for the speed - I admit, it's probably not even close to the busa, but I'd be out there finding out!
Have fun & stay away from the boys in blue!
... oh and make sure you post once you've been near the red line!

That's f*ckng good advice. It was bought home to me last week.I was first up at the traffic light and this sexy looking chick on a SV1000 takes the next lane.Lights change just as a group of Harleys come through splitting lanes.Brain said to wrist go fast and I'm going thru this group on the back wheel.I can't wheelstand but tell that to the TL.Throttle off wheel comes down throttle on and and the fronts back up.I felt like such a dickhead doing these unintentional monos thru this group of bikers I took the next turnoff even though that wasn't where I was going.I can buy a 'Busa but can't get a twelve gauge.Go figger.

I don't think i've got the self control to own one.

I think the busa would be easier too ride than your R1.It seems to be a "soft"bike where as a R1 is a bit of a hoons bike and encourages lunatic behaviour.I'm not talking about speed but I do think certain bikes will bring out the worst/best out of people.I think the character of the busa actually slows me down.

Tui's anyone? Yeah, right!
Why are V-twin riders intimidated by multi's? The multi is actually easier to ride, Ive ridden a TL and I can tell you, the GSXR is way nicer the way the power is delivered...and the busa would be the same. Its all in the throttle hand:clap::headbang:

Its all in the throttle hand:clap::headbang: Ive had many of both,i wouldnt call a multi intimidating at all,as you say its all in the way its delivered, never ridden a Busa but would imagine its similar to many big multis i have ridden in that the power is just seamless/effortless whatever you want to call it,with oem mufflers on it seems more so methinks, the TL hes used to is all noise and bluster so there are all these other senses telling you wahoo were moving, ive done 270 down a long country road straight (private rd of course) and the hassle involved getting there was horrendous:nono:doing that on a busa you probably wouldnt even know you were doing it.

Spec's for the busa's are 156.1 hp (116.4 kw) @9500 rpm...at the back wheel.
top speed...189 mph (305 km/h)... 1/4 mile in 10.2 sec's. (143 mph/ 231 km/h)
As I recall ...they were detuned after 2001...

They were not "detuned" rather they had speed limiters like all the GSXR1000, ZX10, ZX12 etc, so you could not go over 300kph, both my last GSXR1000 would just sit at 299kph and the engine sounded like it was jitting the rev limiter even though not at redline, by altering the signal from the gearposotion sensor so that it thinks its in fifth you can overcome it. Also all gsxr1000 ,gsx1300r ( touring gixxer) & big Bandits have a retarder in the first three gears which is sorted with the above mod.
Just get out there and use it :2thumbsup

Just the other day I had a guy who rides a Fatboy telling me the Hayabusas are crap on corners.
LMFAO.
Anyway, My old boy bought one, I took her for a cane, She was a ball of fun but I wouldn't have kept my license for a day so not for me.
The Oldboy only kept it for a few months, Traded it on a GSX 1000, Haven't bothered to try that one, Seems to be missing a seat.

They definitely have a lot above 4k :D
Never ridden one but sat on the back of M1CRO's bike for some laps around Taupo - until then all I had ridden was a ZZR250.
When we reached the back straight he opened it up and my feet flew off the pegs on 2 gear changes -- I closed my eyes the first time - heyy I was a learner on a 250 and had no idea this kind of performance existed.. :Playnice:
The second lap though was heaven :D
Death bed memories those...
Congrats on your bike. Treasure it.

Had a '99 (unrestricted) Busa. I was certainly the limiting factor on that machine. I have ridden many bikes for years, but nothing compares for sheer power and speed as the Busa.
I used to ride it from LA to San Fransisco, approximately 425 miles. I would do it in 4 hours. This included 3 gas stops (~10 minutes) and a 30 minute lunch break. Average speed, about 145 mph. With sprints hitting 180 mph, I would back down. The bike was cruising at about 8-9,000 rpm, barely even breathing hard. The cars and trucks were coming up so fast, it was absolutely amazing. It took me, a very experienced rider, about a month to learn to keep the front wheel down in all gear shifts from 1-3. The only bike I have ever rode that I didn't feel like I needed one more top gear. I, not being a hooligan per se, was able to pop wheelies at 130 mph. Took it to the drag strip, my first time and ran (If I remember correctly) a 114 mph quarter mile, a little over 10 secs. Stock, with tank bag on. They eat rear tires and chains like candy, so be aware. I think I used to get 3-5k miles out of a rear tire.
check out www.labusas.org for other busa riders. Have fun and be safe.

I'd recommend not doing that sort of speed on the Northern motorway on a Busa. A "Friend" of mine did it once (a few times?), and once almost got busted. This "friend" now owns a GSXR1000, it has similar RWHP to the old Busa, but it's a heap lighter which makes it more fun. Oh, and the GSXR13 is a really long bike, when the front wheel comes up, it really feels like something is happening...

Mate you sound like you should have hold onto the TLS as well as bought the Busa. The GSXR1300 are a great bike, but lack the character of the TLS V-twin
I have ridden a Busa comfy ride with tons of grunt. Have a great ride and congratulations on your purchase..
But...Once bitten by the V-twin bug its hard to forget them aye

As far as advice goes for Busa ownership goes, I've only had mine a few weeks but....allen keys on the front fairing and windsheild, though they did'nt come loose I discovered they did'nt mind a tweak tight, every now and then, not a major.
Keep the chain oiled, but use wax and not oil, I'm sure you know the deal with your TL. And the chain does stretch , probably a tad more than you're V-twin so check that one. the Busa is a dream, fat bitch but it goes like stink and draws a crowd

Congrats on getting the Hayabusa! I had a 2006 model for about 6 months and loved it to bits. Unfortunately I'm in the UK for a couple of years so had to sell her.
I'm a big bastard and the 'fat bitch' suited me perfectly. I found it a little deceptive - its so happy cruising around you tend to forget it can boogie. I let it loose for the first time on the curvy west coast stretch of the Coro loop. I quickly learned that the Busa generates a HUGE amount of momentum very, very quickly - something that demands respect.
I also finally realised why a slipper clutch is a good thing to have - a couple of over-excited down-shifts left skidmarks on the road... and in my boxers!
I suggest just opening the throttle wide open and hanging on tight. I remember smiling till my face ached. Just make sure the road is long, empty and cop-free.

there are some backcountry roads that are perfect for speeds over 200 at least..
Maronan Rd just outta ashvegas was my fave when I was a hoon...then thee is the Thompsons Track between Methven Ashburton Rd and Rakaia...
Tram Rd was a good one too (but the roadworks along it are no good for the start of it)
The Culverden Straight can be fun too....
