I discovered a bloke who will import me a new YZF-R125. (Daughters bike for next year.)
Why is this a dumb idea ? No spares for it. No warranty. What else ?
Any comments on the resale value ?
<img src="http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Photos/2008-YZF-R125-static-03_tcm.jpg">
Why ? Coz its different. Coz its nicer than the CBR125. And coz its different. :shifty:
Abuse and trolling will not be responded to.
many thanks,
Steve

It's not a dumb idea. I talked to a dealer when I first saw it ages ago, the only reason is it's a 125 and they reckon sales wouldn't be good enough, and it's only for the european market.
Nice little beastie I reckon for a first bike. Gorgeous looking, probably the best looking learner bike there is in my opinion *the new ninja is nice but look at that thing :gob:*
Yammy so build quality will be good, if problems arise I'm sure the nz dealers can look after ya. Nothing wrong with the idea, and your daughter would be a very lucky person to have one. The only one in nz.
go for it. Oh and parts prob wouldn't be too bad.

I think they get them in aus, and if thats the case parts wont be to hard to get. If I wanted a 125 thats where id be going, they look awsome.

How much does it cost all up landed and road registered with WOF?

How much does it cost all up landed and road registered with WOF?Well that is the big unknown. I don't even know if it will go straight through compliancing - I expect it will, but you never know if there is some stupid rule that makes the tyre guards 0.1mm too narrow or some bullshit like that. Normal compliancing is $400 ish.
I dont have any other pricing yet. Yes, its pretty innit.. I doubt that she would drop that. Would you ? Narp.
She wants a GT250R like her big brother, but she's tiny, and there's no way she can hold up such a large beast as the GT250R - it will get tipped over in the driveway weekly.. :weep:

Mate if you ever find out .... let us know. I saw on the yammaha ha ha ha NZ web page that they wont be bringing them in.
I am very interested in this bike.
Good hight, weight is good. looks great.
Shame its not a Kawasaki though lol.

Could be cost prohibitive in small numbers. Find yourself a source for parts etc before it arrives and save yourself the hassle in the long run.
De-restricted and with a good rider, I'd say that that would be a fiesty little contender.

I think they would sell like hotcakes...
Look a shitload better than the cbr125, then again even an fxr is wider, saw a cbr125 parked next to an fxr, made the fxr look wide!:shit::blink:

I'm not sure if you're talking about the size or the weight, but have you looked at the spec sheets?
GT250R dry weight = 126 kg
YZF-R125 dry weight = 126.5 kg

Wikipedia et al reports that the GT250R weighs more like 150KG. You did have me for a second there tho.. ;)

Apologies if I am wrong. I simply googled "gt250r dry weight" and used the first link returned:

Dry weight: 126.0 kg (277.8 pounds)

Wikipedia isn't actually a factual database - it's user updated and contains much that is apocryphal or at least wildly innaccurate.
I would suspect such a beastie to cost more than NZ$8,000 plus shipping add another NZ$2,000 then there's all the compliancing, ORC etc. This is great - you are obviously made of money....but then why are you riding a GT650R?
Any consideration of the Kawasaki Ninja250R? It has a low seat height too.

Get a Ninja 250r..
You know you want one..
That bikerz website rates it a lot higher than the hyosung 250.

Heres the Yamaha, too:

It's better and off road and track racing apparently! Useful.

Might be alright for a bucket racer. Any performance bits available?I read that they are "restricted". I can't imagine WHY someone might restrict a 125cc engine, but I expect they can be UN restricted quite easily.

Wikipedia isn't actually a factual database - it's user updated and contains much that is apocryphal or at least wildly innaccurate. In this case, 4 or 5 other sites agree with it, and one does not. Which makes wikipedia correct, the the odd site out - incorrect.

This week I will have prices to compare. I will post these in this thread. Yes, the GT650R was cheap. I paid $6k with 921km on the clock. Yes, you read that correctly. After 15,000km I haven't put a spanner on it. Do the math.

Nice Idea DB. Go for it.
And for the record , GT250R is 169kg DRY and 190kg with fluids, so DB you are right your daughter would have trouble if she starts with a large bike like that.

You know that just because Edgecombe is "International" buying from Hamilton isnt exactly importing right???

In England and possibly other countries, learners are restricted on Horsepower not cc. Cant remember what it is, 10 or 12 bhp, so rather than make bikes in tiny quantities for such markets they get standard, multi market bikes and restrict em.

Retard? oooh nasty !!! - anyway ..
Despite what SHE says as a 'responsible father' you tell her its too big - dosnt matter what bike she is looking at - it has to fit. Looking at a bike that is too big just beacuse its cheaper is not the smartest thing to do.
You were the one who said that YOU " can get a VERY tidy GT250R for this thou" indicating YOU were possibly buying the bike and considering it inplace of the Yamaha.
