Thought that tittle would get your attention!
I was going to go out to Thunder X today, nice day etc but one riding buddy was busy, the other overseas and my son didn't want to go! 3 outa 3 failed me and I was really really pissed off!!! So much so when my kids gave me tickets to Def Leppard to go with my son for fathers day! I wasn't as happy as I should have been. I acted really pleased, and I am, but don't no if not going out on the bike showed through. I feel like an arse now about that moment!
Dammad from KB was going down but I haven't ever met him before, so I gave it a miss.
I know Telliman and Gtae go to Ardmore and Harrisville on their own and so do I, but they are controlled MX tracks and there's always some to see you right if you have an off!!

I'm not so keen on being stuck all the way down Mercer or way out the back of the sandpit with a broken collar bone and no one to come find me and drive me home or help load the bike. Or stuck miles from the car with a bad plug or Puncture and everyone buggers off home cause they don't know who you are. On the trailbalzers etc there's heaps of riders and the organisers with their quads to get you out!

OK! am I being a whimp for not being keen on trail riding without a riding buddy. Don't necessarily have to stick together if he is faster but its nice to have an "out clause" if you get in the shit! I ain't as young as I used to be so with age comes caution! Even a few years ago I would have just gone!!

Should I harden up and just go, or is it sensible to go another day??? How many of you trail ride fast alone?

I can almost hear the responses already!! HTFU!!

Meh I used to always go on my own and just say hello to people there and go for a ride with them. Guess I'm just a social kind of person.

Anyway we all on for next weekend at thunder then? Got to see If I can rent the two bikes for my mates.

i find that its good to ride on your own sometimes, follow thier lines and learn from faster people, like chasing scott arround the mx track
or as scott can look at it following someones elses lines in the saloons

Nigel no mates eh.

Well if there is a car left in the car park then somebody is missing. We have a strategy for getting you and your equipment out. Late night searches are fairly rare. We can store bikes and cars here at home and then arrange delivery on your discharge from A & E.(dial a driver) LOL.

During the day there would generally be somebody riding the track after you.

However there are exceptions. Heat seeking imaging from the Police choppa would normally find you. But if you're cold then your fucked!!:zzzz: perminately:cold: and no:doctor:is going to help you. Then in these cases we would arrange for burial on site. Damn easier diggin in the sand than the clay at Thunder or Kimmy's.(no extra charge).

Na, ride by yourself in a controlled environment. The gooses that ride by themselves out side of this deserve all they get.

I have ridin by myself heaps of times, if you rely on other people to much you defiantely wont be riding as much as you want to, so I just decide to go riding if other people want to join me then sweet if not then that's sweet to.

I certainly don't worry about hurting myself when i'm on my own, can't spend your life worrying about something that may never happen.

If i'm riding by myself I just spend the time trying to ride smooth and consistent, save the charing hard for when your with your mates.

Im with cheese on this one - socialise and meet some new riders - you always end up learning something new from them and vice versa. If theres no one else around(very rare occurence) just throttle back and enjoy the ride(still better than staying home).

Just read your opening post.

You have answered your own question (IMHO) harden the fuck up!

Is it about you and your mates, or about you and your bike? Your choice! Easy one for me. :ride: Cheers John.

Yeah i'm the same. Used to go out to kimmy's midweek and ride after work by my lonesome HOWEVER I wouldn't do it anymore.

When I came off bigtime and fucked both knees and an ankle I was the last on the track with no one else riding at that point. I couldn't walk or even stand up at all. If my brother wasn't there to notice I hadn't come round the mx track for a while I could've been waiting for ages before I got picked up. Plus I couldn't drive either.

Would never ride alone anymore

I dunno, I'd ride Thundercross ( haven't been there mind you ) or trail rides on my own. In the end though it's what you feel happy with, if you're going to ride slower cause you are on your own to keep safer & not enjoy it as much, seems to me a smart move.
Riding an MX track all on your own is kinda scarey though, even with people a km away :).

yeh had similar at one of the Mr motorcycles rides. Decided to go for a last loop as my mates where taking off so I stayed on, they left. Passing a slower rider, going quite quick, I tripped over a rut and came off. No big deal just bent the bars but I injured my kidney a bit, rode the bike back to the truck, loaded up and tried to drove home. Had to stop in Pokeno for the pain and barely made it home.

But Hey this isn't supposed to be a big deal! I was just interested in your opinions and the whimp thing was a bit of humour at myself. Trouble with the written word there's no body or facial expression to go with it! Part of the reason not to go, was that as it was fathers day I should be with hanging with my teenagers, as a father, not out alone on my bike. Actually had the bike on the ute at 10am and took it back off!
But still an interesting discussion going on with valued experienced opinions like Scott's that should be heeded.
I will continue to go out the Sandpit, Ardmore and Harrisvilee on my own but think I'd still like a mate at Thunder and Kimi's. I'd hate to have to leave my bike and all the gear down there if I wasn't able to drive it back anyway!

And slimjim I don't think any MX or enduro rider is worried about HURTING themselves. Your comments don't really make sense to me? Frankly it comes with the territory, its sure to happen sooner or later! Its simply the nature of our game! The thread is about limiting the effects and risks thats all!

having no friends I have often ridden alone, no issues at Bike parks etc,

I worked at woodhill for 5 years under the old mangment, I would always ride the park on the quad before I went home If I thought there was a lost rider..

have often ridden Kimmys and Thunder alone, no probs,

I would however not ride Maratotos by myself ..no way...

but it is you choice, sure helps to have a mate with you if you break down etc..

I guess its up to your own "risk assesment "

good post, some good replies

Each to his own....Personally, the idea of sitting out the back of a bike park/trail ride/friends farm etc with a broken femur hoping on the off chance someone remembers to come looking before you bleed to death just doesn't do it for me...
