For BRONZ. How many bikes have DRLs

DRLs, Daytime Running Lights are auxiliary lights that , by definition, have a low loight output, and must automatically come on when the ignition is switched on AND automatically go out when the headlamps are turned on.

The LTSA (or whatever they call themselves now) claim that "almost all motorcycles imported in recent years are fitted with DLRs"

That seems nonsense to me. Off hand I can't think of ANY bikes fitted with DLRs . However, I can't be sure about things like Harleys.

On the face of it, since many bikes have always on headlamps, DLRs would be a nonsense , since they could never be on.

Note the critical distinction, a light is ONLY a DLR if it goes off when the headlamp comes on. We are not talking about things like the SV1000 whichhas a couple of little lights (always on) as well as the headlamps.

Does anyone know of any bikes fitted with DLRs as standard ?

Can't think of any, using the definition provided above.

Some bikes built for the US market have an arrangement where the front indicators are constantly illuminated. But that doesn't conform with the definition for DRLs.

Suspect a strong case of (mis)interpretation on one or other sides.... my bike (and a hell of a lot of others) have headlights on full time.

No, they're not confused, they're just trying to stuff people around. They've done it for years, eg:
It's illegal to drive a car using parking lights, (despite the fact that Volvo have them wired to the ignition.)
It's illegal to have a single fog or driving light on a car, (despite the fact that the Studebaker Champion and Commander, Rover 90-110 and the Austin A90 Atlantic all had them as standard equipment.)
These rules were in force some years ago, (obiously,) but I think they are still current.

Daytime running lights are fitted to the front of a motorcycle to make it easier to be seen by other road users.They have a low light output and are not bright enough to illuminate the road ahead. These are normally designed so that they turn on automatically with the engine ignition, and turn off when the dipped or main beam headlamps are switched on. The vast majority of new motorcycle and moped imports entering New Zealand have these lights as standard.

Hardwired headlamps seem to be around on certain bikes, but "extra lights" seems very unusual.

Actually, Ducati 999, SV1000 (like you said they are little but fit the DRL description), '04, '05 R6 and R1. All I can think of off the top of my dome.

Let me qualify that further still. These bikes have lights that would qualify IF they were wired to work that way. The Headlight on thing kind of ruins that.

Sooooo...who is the 'expert' that will point to the various types of lights and say 'not a DRL'.... 'THAT'S a DRL'...'That's NOT a DRL' etc.

Who DOES decide what isn't, what is??

BTW: CB and I have the brightest little 'melt-yer-retinas' DRLs on our H-Ds, worth their weight in gold I reckon.

Some of the Kawasaki and Yamaha Middleweight Cruisers have them. The indicators are running lights.

Harleys don't.

I don't think I've even seen DRL's on a car - and I do a dozen WoF's a day.They have been trying to get away from the driving light/fog light confusion...and there are no park lights anymore,they are marker lights....etc.Confusion with headlights hard wired to the key here I think....are BRONZ going to have a little word in their ear?

What about the park bulbs that sometimes accompany the normal bulbs?

The 04 zx10 has these small bulbs, they are on when normal lights are on...
