Well its a cruisy ride after all. There are always a few people on learners or restricted coming along and its nice for them to have other 250s to ride with. I know it helped me a lot when I had my 250.
Great ride today by the way, 30+ bikes again. The blast around the lake was great now that the Honda has been run in :shifty:

If you are stuck see if an RG150 one will fit, (there are plenty about the place.) I know it will at at least need the detachable weight taken off the back.
Shopping was shit.
I may have to come for a ride again sometime, it was quite odd showing up to so many new faces. :)

It was & I did.
Had a great run back over the hill too. Thats 2 weeks in a row without traffic on the way up to break up the flow. Its always great to great a run up the Featherston side without any cages or trucks to slow the flow.

Well I got home safe and sound despite a massive head shake trying to avoid what looked like at the very last second a full can of something lying in the way. Can't figure out whether the subsequent expletives were because I almost shat my self, smacked my knee against the tank, or they were for the fwit who left it there.

22nd January 2009, 07:11
I got back safely too... I didn't see any calamaties at the side of the road (breakdowns or otherwise).
Normally I don't see any police, but this time there were 2 of them. One about 1km past the silverstream turnoff heading south and another around the corner from my house. Luckily the community radar detector system was working (ie. cager flashing lights) as I had crept to 115kph pas silverstream... the old vtr headlight doesn't do good job picking up police car reflector glare. Of course being on a small bike with black gear, meant my F-117 stealth technology would have evaded detection.
Out of interest... do you prefer the ride over the 'takas from upper hutt to featherston or the return? For some reason, I find the return ride "easier"...
Bullitt

Was a good ride, another huge turnout.
Thanks heaps for the ride Des, Im sure it was far more effective at getting me to buy something else than people asking me for the past year when Im going to upgrade:lol:

I prefer the ride back but mostly the ride back up to the top... not so much the ride up to the top on the way there. fear of going off the edge i guess... cause i go all out on the way back up to the top... quallman1234 was the only one who chased me down and passed me.

Sweet as, You looked nice and smooth =). Although i don't agree with putting your foot down unless really pushing it.
Good shit .
Going back is feels a little bit easier imo, but theres some tight sections you have to watch out for, where you don't going the other way. I love the ride UP either side :). Down's not too bad, but going back towards upper hutt can be a bit dangerous whilst braking. (Easy to outbrake yourself no matter your skill level).

Nah - was going to buy a Sprint ST - but I have had an itch to try/ride/own a busa prior to getting the Speedtriple. For similar money the Busa had so much more to offer than the Sprint. This bike is smooth like a big pussy and will give a smile from time to time, something I wasn't certain I would get from a Sprint - especially after the Speedtriple.

The 07 and some earlier year Speedtriples have plastic tanks. During latter 07 and from 08 they have steel tanks. There is no advantage I can see in plastic tanks - are heavy as thick, hold less fuel and can't drop on the magnetic tank bag. That was the only thing I didn't like about that bike.

I'd love to venture out on greasy wet roads ;-), but alas the RVF is in the shop getting a quieter exhaust fitted (whadya mean 118 decibels is too loud for a wof!). Maybe Thursday night?

Yeah I thought it was a bit heavy for a proper ride too. But I did test my new gear in the rain and can fully recommend strada. Rode for an hour in the down pour and was dry as.

Thanks for that insight but I know what a culvert is... it was the blind bit that was/is puzzling me.
A culvert that blunders out in front of you waving a white cane perhaps?

ha ha ha very funny guys lol nah blind meant it was on a corner and I didnt see it till the very last minute. Wasnt painted or coloured brightly lit up with flashing signs saying "I AM HERE". My front tyre just clipped the outside edge of it and thats all it takes.

Ouch! Finding something like that on what you thought was the apex would certainly tend to ruin your ride.
Hope everythings back together and rolling ASAP.

Mint night for it folks!!:sunny:
I just got back from a run over to Featherston and back to try and stretch my squid suit, road is in great condition, didn't come across any moving road blocks until just before the bridge on Featherston side so that was wicked!! Practiced being smooth, so tried not to use my brakes, which I manage except the two 35km(?) left hand corners coming down, so was pleased with that. Stopped in Featherston to get some feeling back in my feet and didn't realise until I'd changed gear several times that my foot felt very heavy.... yep, bloody chewing gum sticking my boot to my peg, shit!!! Nice run back also, a few more cars this time, but all good, stopped at bottom of hill to scrape off chewing gum then continued. Lots of cops out, probably 1 cop to every 10 cars I saw....:(
Anyway, have fun tonight you lot!!

Hey everyone, great ride last night. For some of us it was a great blast around western lake. Good fun and definitely cleared out the pipes, most enjoyable, although definitely one of the longest wednesday night cruises ive done. Wellington -> Featherston -> Western Lake Rd -> Martinborough -> Greytown -> Martinborough -> Featherson -> Wellington.
There seems to be a bit of talk of the summer night rides comming to an end. Surely this cant be. I will definitely be continuing this for quite a few months, and it would be great if many others did too. Although there is less light available for the trip, it is still always a good excuse to clear off the dust that begins to collect and come out for a bit of a cruise.

On another note, we found out that the BP in Martinborough has an after hours easy pay system so you can fill up if you find yourself in the poo and realise that nothing is open. Handy information to know. Would be cool to see more of these around in the further out parts of the country where everyone goes home at normal times lol.

Too much riding is bad for my bank ballance...
Over the last 3 weeks i have taken every oportunity to extend my trip to work by 10 or so more km's (upper hutt to willis street - via ride round the bays ) and same thing on the way home (willis street to upper hutt - via porirua, past plimerton out to Paikok and back over pikok hill to haywards and home)...
So much so that i have had to fill up every 2 days excluding extra long rides on the weekends...... petrol bill last week came to $120 all up... thats 2 weeks worth of driving my 4x4 in to town every day...
Also had Service done that was $360
So i am extra broke at the moment. So will be switching to wife's GN250 for a month or 2 till my bank ballance recovers. :weep:

...but inclusion of East Cape, The Rotomas, Paraparas, Awakino Gorge, Mangamukas, Kaikoura Coast&Hunderlees, Catlins, Haast Pass, Buller Gorge,....oh Happy happy Joy Joy!!!

Great to back on the ride and a nice night for it.

Hope to make it to a few more now I am mobile again!

Sinned - I think you overtook me on the way back to j'ville. Did you see the goldwing (I think it was) followed by a harley rider with arm tassles and some purple neon thing glowing underneath? (or was I hallucinating?)
Sunset was fantastic coming back along cheesecutter alley - wish I had a picture of it. Was very calm at the top of paekok - picture perfect.... pitty there was no room for any cars to park

Well there's a thing.... that's where Mrs CB and I went last night!
We set off early (5pm) thinking maybe we'd see the Cruisey Wednesday Crew somewhere over the hill later (turned out wrong hill obviously) so we aimed for Lake Ferry but changed our minds at Featherston and had a beer in Martinborough instead before going to the White Swan for some grub. Noticed a large leather clad contingent at the Hotel in Featherston on our way back to the Hutt.

That was me. That goldwing was a big ship and I thought I was hallucinating. I could fit some glowing lights under the busa? - no officer it wasn't me it was a low flying ufo.

Ha - interesting all right! We have come back that way sometimes after the Tukas. The good thing about doing it at night is you can see any other traffic a long way off. And there is hardly any other traffic at that time anyway.

Just been over the Wairarapa, the hill is mostly dry, a few damp spots on the usual shaded corners but fine at normal pace.
so apart from being a bit colder, should be alrite nite for a ride.

hope the rides are going well - i'm missing riding on nice roads :) driving is insane here in china rode around the city on a bicycle its like lane splitting chicken and noone uses indicators or helmets pretty crazy - asked some people if anyone rides performance bikes here but they said the government doesnt like people using them with the crazy traffic as people always crash
happy riding :)
RocKai

Chazza, now you're speaking my language, although i aint a chinaman from chinaa mannn. No one use indicators, ignore the red lights, who got the louder horn wins. Although it's easier to crash there, it's easier to die here due to speed thou.
So when's the next welly ride? Sorry i'm not following cuz picking my bike this weekend.

Where do you get accurate info like this? Do you work for the Metservice?
Is that 7.20 approximately at the duck pond or at the top of the Taka's?
I'll chuck some rain gear on the back and see you all there.

I think it's already raining on the Takas.
The 7:20 is just a wild guess for low lying areas. Higher up will see rain sooner.

Aye. Good turnout down at the pond. A few heavy drops started and a few bailed. Rest geared up and went up to the Paekak Hill Carpark. Then back to the Monteiths bar I believe. I got a call, so had to come straight back from the carpark. Only got wet coming over the hill at home. Not too much moisture...:)

Well wherever you got the info from, it wasn't quite right. But it was a better prediction than we get from our normal weather channels.:niceone:
Started raining just after 6, funnily enough it was dry at the top of the Paekakariki Hill. When we got back around the inlet the rain started again.
Ah well, it made for an interesting change and I had fun regardless.:apint:
