Hi, I'm looking at getting new tyres for my GSX-R 1100 (m). Currently it is running 120/70-17 front and 170/60-17 rear, but according to all the information that I can find online it should be running 120/70-17 and 180/55-17, will this have much effect on handling? Ideally I would want the bike to be turning in a little quicker, as it currently feels like I am steering a truck.

Also I've read through this section of the forum, and there seems to be a consensus on Avon Storms being the best tyre option for touring on this type of bike, would this be correct or have I misunderstood something?

Also if there is anyone out there with the manual for the same or a similar bike (or even anyone with a half a clue) that can give me guidance on what tyre pressures I should be running. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks heaps

Philip

Hi, I had a GSXR1100L and used Michelin Pilot Sports (at the time), and now use Pilot Powers. Thought that they worked well. Good in wet or dry. What sort of riding do you do? Commuting, touring, sport riding, all of the above? Was a 180 on the rear. Actually came out standard with a 130 on the front. Went much better with the 120 on the front. Got some work done on the front forks. Did wonders. Loved that bike!

Ya bike has a 5.5inch rim on the rear which should be using a 180/55x17 tyre & i recommend conti Road-attacks for awesome mileage & road use depending how you ride!.You'll prob find bike tipping in a lot easier once ya go back to the 180 cause it will sit more rounder on the rim :Punk:

Def go for 120/70 - 180/55. Sounds like you do more touring than 'real' quick riding. Pilot Road 2s will be ideal, as would Storms.

The type of riding I will be using this for will mainly be touring (doing a lap of New Zealand in January), although I am also commuting on it every day. Thanks to everyone for their help so far.

just had a check michelin site recommand 120/70 180/55
tires say power/road/sport

Those are standard tire sizes so world is your oyster, pick your favourite tyre brand, then choose if you want type of rubber you are wanting, sport/sport touring.

and your away laughing

That helps to direct you better...PR2 or Storms then. You could also look at Metzler Z6s (RoadTech). I had those on my 1100M and had done over 10,000ks when I sold it. Recommended pressures were 36f/42r and I pretty much stayed with that. Front was good, rear was getting squared off. If I still had that bike I'd now be going with dual compounds tho
