View Full Version : Self Employed & ACC

3 years ago I was self employed, claimed everything and was an upstanding citizen paying my dues.
ACC decided to give me about 1/3 what I was earning weekly as my compensation.
3 years later- I am earning the exact same amount weekly and per year it is within a grand of each other..on wages..
ACC give me the true 80% like they say they do. In fact it is slightly more than that as I did some O/T throughout the year.

My gripe is - I did try every avenue and checked all the regulations, and it really seemed like-
If you are self employed...You will be financially burdened[ ripped off] by ACC.
You will recieve less than someone on wages, no matter what.
The people who are self employed that I know, and myself at that time inclusive- Work Really Bloody Hard
And when the chips are down,
Can't work, too gammy,
You get an extra kick in the goolies from ACC.

Anyone self employed had any luck from those ... :bash: ?

Haven't needed to (yet - and hoping to stay that way). The stories are all true for self-employed. Work 27 hours a day, 8 days a week for tuppence a month and whadya get? Another day older and deeper in debt? Then when you need help, it's a case of "what for - you're raking it in"

ACC is a bullshit scam.
I feel sorry for the staff that work there, as they must get some real frustrating calls.
Im thankfull that they have a 'minimum payment', cos otherwise i was evaluated to get $50 a week from em.
I dont know how people scam ACC too - cos i couldnt even get them to pay for me untill i was able to walk (hense go back to work).
And they are slow.
ACC, Studylink..............waste of fucken time

Self employed and ACC were never meant to be used in the same sentence

wankers... (the system!! not the staff....um the ones the ph anyway...)
bring back the days where you could opt out and get a private insurance... i save over 90% in the first year... with better coverage.... acc found that out and every one had to go back on the rip off system

FUCKIN WANKERS!!!!!!!!!!

I fork out extra $$$ for income protection insurance, just for the added safety. IPI also covers some business expenses on top of you income, which ACC does not. It's theorectically something you _shouldn't_ have to pay if the system works, but it doesn't!
What pisses me off is the ACC payments are based on gross income, not net. The theory being that your gross income is an indication that you're trading, and therefore some ACC has to be paid. Because I use sub-contractors (who are also paying their own ACC), I have to pay out on a six-figure income, which I can assure you I'm not earning and keeping for myself!

You need to creare a company, contract out to your self, then go onto wages.

What?

Yessiree, ACC just fucking sucks.
Remember the fuss they made about a dude having a personalised plate "H8ACC" on his ute? Their answer was to complain to LTSA about the plate and have it removed. Like AJTurbo says, wankers.

The problem is ACC as a scheme is pretty good (for the masses) and if you dont believe me - just try living overseas where they dont have it. Basically, no work, no income.

The biggest problem with it is the people in charge are total ass wipes at the best of times (the policy makers). I know people who make a living off of suing ACC in order to get them to make payouts to people. And to me, when people have to do that, there is a problem with the system.

I'd rather ACC payout (and pay the odd dodgy person) than try and pick up the ripper offers and miss the odd needy person (same view of the dole too).

That was an ok view when the system first started 2-7,but we are onto our second generation atleast of people who have learnt to milk the system to the max, they are now totaly dependent on the system and can't really be cut off without a hue and cry.I'm self employed and have my own private insurance, you just have to - but if I can't come in here every day the place will go belly up...I can't employ a manager on the feeble income I get out of the place,to get someone in to keep the place afloat will sink it for sure.

Egg zucking factly. You have the pleasure of paying for private insurance AND ACC premiums. You can't fight them, either, as they have the law on their side.
Sorry TwoSeven, but I do not concur - ACC is agrand scheme for those who contribute little to it; the more you contribute, the less you are likely to ever see in return. I agree with the comment about other countries, but at least you could have the opportunity of a no claims bonus??
What really pisses me off with ACC is that I get to pay huge premiums through having a car and two bikes registered (whilst I can only use one at a time), yet a "driver" of an unregistered, unwarrantable piece of shit who prangs it with a gut full of beer (paid for by my tax dollars) can get an easy pay-out for his injuries and suffering! :brick:
Any pollie who promises to shut down ACC would get my vote.

Great!!
So I'm not alone, far from it.
Ok. Some comments I have to add.
Income protection- yes I have it to cover the mortage, and it is a good thing, except for the month stand down.
Income insurance- no I don't have it, but did have it whilst living in the US and Canada, and they would leave ACC for dead in every aspect.
I am gonna stay on wages, being self employed was good, but having someone else wipe my bum is much better.
Feel free to continue raving though, you lot.
