Ok guize. I have for you a 'few' questions.
I'll try keep them tidy in their various topics.
1. Bike mufflers.
My muffler is a stocker, and I have a nice privilege that can help me with getting a new one.
I work as a metal fabricator, and oddly enough, I have access to some steel pipes and stuff. SO I WANNA MAKE ONE. Get some of my own craftsmanship on my bike. Love her!
1 (a): When building a muffler from scratch, what do I need to include, if it's not as straight cut as "TOOB WIF NUFFIN IN IT LUL"?
Stuff like glass fiber filling, those machine-gun-barrel things on the inside.
Does anyone have any links to motorbike muffler specific sites? Replicating a Yoshimura to some extent would be nice.
(b): Is there a db limit to bikes yet? Last I read, it was just have something on the end to keep neighbours, plods and the like at bay.
(c): is there anything I should be seriously thinking about in terms of gas flow or possible HP squeezing?
That's all for the main topic.
What else what else. ER.
Oh, I asked the guy at the bike shop this today, but for solid answers:
2. Gearing for a two-fiddy.
I wanted to drop the sprocket down a few teeth, and the big cheese reckoned 3-4 teeth max kinda, or else the poor girl would be working her clutch far too hard. I plan on doing a 200-300k trip Friday arvie, and the thought of 11,000 on the tacho all the way down makes me cringe. I think of this, because the cheese said I will be looking for a new chain and sprockets, soon.
KB's opinion on this? + an equationy type thing to figure it out =)
I.e, current gearing = 70k 1st, 100k 2nd, etc etc.
3. The future.
Providing I live long enough to reach my full, and get enough money to upgrade, (yes I'm aware this may push a couple peoples buttons, owing to the 'ride them all and find out' mantra) What are the pro's and cons of V-twin versus Straight fours?
V2 ( TL1000 )
P -Sound mint. BLUB BLUB
- Better gas economy
- Service life has longer intervals? :dodge:
- Gobfulls of torque
C - Less power per cubic CM (Not that I'll really ever use enough power to notice the difference)
- IMO not as purty as most L4's (Function over form is my motto, though)
P4
P - Sound mint. VRINNN VRINNNNNNNUH
- They go fast and look tidy
- Infinite power
C - Omnom gas (My Bandit recently chugged 13L in just 145K's. I think she can open her throat muscles :devil2:)
- Torque isn't as beefy at low low rev's
TL;DR.
I needed to make a thread. Just, because I didn't know the answer. And Google doesn't have a personality.
