Lol, help I think something is wrong with me...
Beer tastes like dog piss to me! I'm 20 years old, and yet still, it never gets any better. I can't help but think everyone around me drinks it just to be cool because it tastes so foul!
For years I kept getting told, it'll grow on you in no time etc etc. Nope.
I mean, today i'd far rather pick a nice cold coke than a friggen beer! I Something must be wrong with me? I mean, you have to like beer in order to be a 'real man' don't you lol? Personally I couldn't care less but i'm interested to know...
When did you develop the taste for beer?

FFS, if beer offends you so much, drink something else. The world is awash with potable beverages of every hue and potency.
I was weaned onto beer. Mum says it contains essential trace elements and minerals. It's a veritable health food, and my Mum knows everything.

Ha that's funny - I was the same at your age.
What you need to do is get a mortgage and a family then you find that beer is pretty much the cheapest piss around at your supermarket. You slowly get into it - maybe purchasing a six pack that lasts a few weeks. This becomes a weekly six pack.
Tonight I purchased a 12 pack (it was on special - excellent value).
Also there are so many different beers around now you'll find something you like. Try a dark beer (Speights Dark) or a very light one (Sol, Carona etc).
Hmmm just typing this makes me want to crack one. But I have a 9.00pm time limit during the week.

My mother told me I should drink more beer to put on some weight.....
You are lucky you weren't brought up in the '60's or '70's when beer was the only drink socially acceptable for a male. The beer was brewed by continuous fermentation and fouler than anything you could drink today. Some beers really did taste like a tom cat pissed in them...hence the term cats piss for a bad beer.Lion Red used to taste like that....and I still can't stand it.
These days you can drink anything you like without being done over in the car park when you go home.....

Few mates of mine didn't like it when they 1st started at 16-18, but it has grown on them.
What type of beer you drinking etc?

Mmmmm....Beer.
The first beer I had, it was like the missing ingredient I had been looking for my entire life.
Couple hours later I was lying in my own vomit with a busted nose and two black eyes.
I soon found that repetition was the key and developed a talent for drinking vast amounts of the stuff and talking utter utter shit.

Took me a while to like beer compared to my friends (for me about 23 vs 15 for them)
I still have certain brands which taste like ass....export gold being the main one.....
So my advice is keep drinking what you like, but always have a taste of different beers now and again...once you find one you like you'll be set.

Y'know, not everyone has the same sense of taste or sense of smell. The number of receptors for each varies widely from person to person. Beer is bitter after all, due to the hops, so it's not surprising some people don't like it. I started drinking it at about 13 (first time I got pissed) and apart from a few years when I didn't drink any alcohol, tea or coffee, I've been drinking it ever since. I can't stand the thought of giving it up - what else is there to drink when you're really hot and thirsty? Only water - softdrinks aren't thirst-quenching as they have too much sugar in them (by design - to not quite quench your thirst while at the same time making you thirstier, so you'll drink more).
Beer is good! :niceone:
Coke, on the other hand, should be banned on account of being chemical waste. :Pokey:

Aha! Then you haven't looked hard enough, or tried enough beers. There are some nice 'gurrrly' ales for you, like raspberry wheat beer, or some fruit-flavoured Belgian ales. They're not easy to find, but they are about. There's a shop near us that sells a cherry-flavoured Belgian beer. I think it's terrible, but the vifferbabe likes it, after she had summat similar at her cousin's house in Helmond.
Trademe900000 might like it too!
I had some raspberry wheat beer at Mugger's Brewpub in Twin Falls Idaho, in January '95 or '96. It was great! (even though I got hassled for drinking such a gurrrrlie drink. I wanted to try the ornery wheat beer, but they had only the pink one the night I was there. The beer we had in the brewpub was the only palatable Mrkn ale we had the whole week we were there.
Oh - and Trademe9999000 - if you ever go to Idaho, stay away from something called "Red Dog" - I believe it really is made from dog's piss (not that I've ever tasted that), and compost. The first mouthful the gag reflexes nearly kick in. The third one, your tastebuds have expired from overload, and you start to think (coz your brain's poisoned) "That wasn't so bad". Then the first belch comes up, and the nightmare starts all over again.

If you don't like it don't drink it. I didn't like the taste of it for the longest time and I kinda developed it over a while. I still don't like anything in a green bottle (the so called elite beers - Steinekin etc). Drink what you do like.
I don't like tomatoes or fejoass - just the way it is.
Think of the money you'll save!
There's this little red headed dude on here that I'd really hate to cross swords with (not that I imagine I ever will)... and he's given up drinking alcohol at all. That earned a hell of a lot of respect from me to be honest - society says drink - get drunk - it's the thing to do. Some choose not to for various reasons... and "I don't like it" is up there with the best.
It's not an issue except in your own mind mate

Maybe try some of the lighter beers first... Light Ice, Amstel Light, etc... or just get yourself a bottle of Absinthe mate... 1 shot and beer will taste like a coke after that... lol

Well, the thing is, they're usually wheat beers or lagers anyway, so not very hoppy, so not so bitter. So it's not so much the fruyity stuff masking the bitterness, as adding a bit of flavour back in.
Hmmmmmmmm wonder how ice cream in beer would taste?
You've crossed the line there, Gurrrlie! :Pokey:
Tell ya what - you could try an old-fashioned lager and lime. It's lager (or other paleish beer, like wheat beer) with a shot of that lime syrup stuff made by Rose's or whoever. You used to be able to ask for one at a bar, but it's been like a bazillion years since I last ordered one, I dunno if your average spotty bar youf person would know what one is.

I drink beer. Ginger or root beer. Me being the teetotaller I am, have never seen the upside of watching my mates getting plastered, heaving up stomach linings and always carrying tarps, buckets and water in the boot of my cage for the aftermath!
I don't mind others imbibing the liquid, but the excesses and effects of it always has me nonplussed. To each their own, enjoyment in those things they like as long as it doesn't end up on the wrong side of civil norms!

There's no bad beers, just some are better than others.
If you want taste, try ales (served at the correct temperature - about cold water level), if it's quantity - beers, if it's effect - lagers.

The coke is a bit of a hint – too much sugar
You’ve stuffed your pallet up – beers not sweet enough for you now.
It’s the pop culture – I try not to have sugar in my diet, you loose the taste for sweetness, everything today is just jam packed with sugar, it’s incredible how consumers demand more and more sweetness, sugar sells – it’s an evil addiction of the modern world
The first time I appreciated Beer was as a young fella doing a full day picking up hay, dusty, hot, stuffed with a wicked thirst, you can drink coke, fruit juice or water - but beer really hits the spot, for some reason hard work makes beer extremely palatable.
Unfortunately I’ve developed an allergy to beer …. not to whiskey though.

I loooove a good wine, heady and sophisticated;
I have magnum of Peter Lehmann Shiraz, from the Stonewell district of the Barossa Valley. Its a 1989 bottle (best year ever) aged in American oak its an award winning drop.

I hear you, but I would be reluctant to sink additional coin on the hope that the 1989 would be a discernable quantum better than the 1990. The Stonewell Shiraz is without peer in an ordinary year. I'd get the cork out of this soonest -- wine doesn't continue to improve in the bottle. Would you swap it for a case of Lehman Stonewall '97?

It's only worth more because it was a particularly good year, and only sold from their cellar. Worth $250 to $300 (Apparently).
And yes it will be opened very shortly - but like this thread, it's hard to find someone who could actually appreciate it's subtlety and balance, to drink it with, 1.5 ltr is too much for one person.
It just seems people are in the 'pop' area, and don't appreciate the nuances of subtlety, the dance of life or the essence of things.
Romance is all about shagging now, movies substitute a good plot and word smithing for sex, fast cars and pop idols.
Now beer is slowly giving way to alco-pops

Beer's great. Cheap lager is and always has been shit. Try drinking something that isn't cheap lager. Wheat beer's a good starting point. Mac's Blonde, Hoegaarden, summat like that.
