I'm looking at getting a kawasaki er 6n or triumph speed triple, does anyone have any experience with these bikes and could give a low down?
Cheers

They're completely different bikes, but both very nice and shitloads of fun. Go test riding! Motorad in Wellington has both on the floor.

Consider the Street Triple as well. 675cc and a whole lot of bike

Didn't think too much of the Speed Triple to be honest.
Engine is fantastic, a real peach, beautiful to use. However, let down terribly by comparatively crap suspension and handling.
Er6 isn't too bad, I would agree the bikes are in different leagues (you may have meant the Street Triple, which is a 675, compared to the Speed Triple, which is a 1050). Not an issue for you, but the seat is designed in a way that is... painful for guys
Have you ridden both, and what did you think of them?

I thought that the Speed Triple's Grin Factor was cranked right up to 11. Even on cruddy sport touring tyres it was just a phantasmagorical thing to ride. If I had a gargre, there would be one parked in there. A white one. No question. It's probably the most "complete" naked bike I've ridden.

675 mate:gob: Awsome bike, just done some skids on one at Moto TT day yesterday at Taupo. I changed the standard Geometry of it by altering fork Height in the Tripple clamps, and what an amazing difference:Punk: The Tourqe of it was really kool

nope, wasn't at the track... I would be on the other bike anyway (that leaves the speed triple in the dust)
The engine is truly fantastic, I can see why people rave about the triple, but the suspension was basically not doing its job, and I'm 100kg (so no lightweight). No give whatsoever over all the little bumps. Handling, get on the front brakes mid corner (deliberate test) and it instantly stands up...

You do speak the truth !!
It surprised (disapoints) me that they have such a great machine and let it down with the important finishing touches !
Don't get me wrong, i love the 1050 but it won't be long before my abilities get to the point where it won't do it for me (well i'm hoping anyway)
Alas, i feel that soon there will be nothing for it but to ...........
have two !!!

It is probably important to note that its certainly improved over the old model (I demo'd an 08 with micron pipes). Triumph have tried to lift it towards the KTM, but they still have a bit more work to do. On the flip side, its cheaper than the likes of the superduke and supermoto, but then the KTM comes standard with WP suspension (Trumpy does have brembo front, like KTM, not sure what its rear is tho)

Yip, your right about the crap shock's, thats why I stuck an Ohlins on the rear. Now it's great. Best mod's you can do is sort your suspension, :niceone::niceone:

Have you ridden both, and what did you think of them?Bearing in mine that the bike you rode was a new demo bike and that the suspension was not exactly tailored to your requirements all speed triples need their rear suspension softening, yes even for big fat yarpie bastards like yersel. my suspension has been softened up at the back and has made a big difference to how it now handles. So Mia go for a Speed Triple they are the bees knees I am on my second one now and will probably upgrade to the next generation triple.

Not even my own bikes are perfectly set up for myself. I sort out major issues, like the forks not sliding nicely etc, get the shop to set it up using a rough idea, using their knowledge of issues from factory, and ride it :scooter:
Most bikes come from factory sprung for 75-85kg (japs are 75, euro etc are more like 85, more realistic), so they should all be undersprung and soft. When it gives me a bone jarring ride, and I weigh 100kg... how the hell are they setting up their bikes? :shit:

Hi Mia,
I'm facing the same dilemma after a 250.
I haven't ridden either yet. Problem is I need to get the cash, because I know once I ride I will be bitterly disappointed if I cannot buy then and there.
Money no object - between the two I'd choose the Street Triple R. Coming to Motorad very soon (both orange and titanium grey colours). However at $16.5k not the cheapest option! See this link for a summary of differences between the Street Triple and Street Triple R here:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=82931&highlight=street+triple
Kawasaki ER-6N advantages:
Lower seat height by about 25mm (if that is important to you)
Cheaper (by $5k - $6.5k depending on your choice of Street or Street R)
Triple advantages:
50% more horsepower
Torque might be more usable over the rev range. A review I've read said pretty much 60Nm is available from 3,500revs up
For me - looks
Possibly better brakes and suspension - definitely on the R version.
Let us know how you go.... when are you thinking of buying? I know the prices have gone up recently on the Kawasaki stuff with our dollar weakening against asian currencies :(
Cheers,
David.
