View Full Version : Paeroa BOS '05 - Sunday 20/02 (spectators)

3rd February 2005, 21:42
Last year Spankme, Duckman, et al, led a group of "don't want to wake up too early on a Sunday" spectators to Paeroa via Miranda.
I see no reason why we shouldn't do this again!
These are the details as of 11-02-05:
Meet at the Caltex carpark, Mt Wellington Hwy (by the BK)
9:00am, for a 9:15 depart
A reminder that slow riders may find the pace a bit too quick - aimed at medium to quick riders - the whole wake up late and make up the difference kinda thing...

yeah the hammy side is the best, the ol 1100 you had to slide rear around alot to get it around corners at speed, riding the father in laws old vulcan 1500 was the worse, scraping exhust and floor boards they the corners.

Lots of waves from little kids too they just love it as much as i do. (edit) the only thing i havn't done yet is go down at speed but i doubt i will do that for a while.

I just got off the phone with MAF and they now have the correct VIN# for my bike but it turns out that an initial inspection or somethin wasnt done when it first arived here in Hamilton. Gonna call the guy at MAF back tomorrow and see about getting that done. and then i can register this bad boy and be legal at last!!!!

It might be better if the south contingent meet at the Shell station in Clevedon, just south of the round-a-bout, instead. It's more direct for us to get there via Takanini or East Tamaki from Mt Wellington.
Plan from there is to head down the road past the Thames to Miranda and continue south to the main highway. There's a right turn from the highway that takes us to SH2 which we would take (we won't go as far as Kopu), but I can't actually remember where it is (I'm sure someone else knows).

Ummm, now you're asking all the hard questions...I'd say we will be there no later than 9:45, if we're there earlier and no-one's about, we'll wait a short while.
I have no idea what the 'average' speed will be...Typically a KB rated slow ride will not exceed the indicated speed limits, and corners may or may not be taken around the 'suggested'/signed speeds. On the Miranda straights you wouldn't get much change out of $2.50...I don't want to incriminate myself, so I hope this gives you an idea.
We will probably only have one fuel stop. Paeroa is not far, and we want to try and get the best balance between not having to wake up at 7am and not turning up after half the day's racing is complete...

LOL! No worries, that sounds about the pace of our group anyway. Those miranda straights are bad news! :niceone: I'm a bit slower than most of them, esp up the twisty bit between kawa & kaiaua (still getting used to the 400), but I'll catch up further along. Bastards. I s'pose that's what you get when you use the public health system though. I know a doctor - do you want me to see if she can sort you out?
You want a lift down to the drags tomorrow night dude?

What is the route going to be? The reason I ask is that if we are heading to miranda and then straight to paeroa I might just take make my way via the Coromandel to paeroa after we stopped (or not) at miranda. It will make me late for the first races but I will have a good ride and I cant sit still for more than an hour in any case.
So Im saying is that if anyone wants to do the ride with me around the coromandel feel free to join me.

No, not that one but it's this one being ridden by Johann Bruns at Paeroa, the previous owner of my bike: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=1
I only started racing in April 04 and it'll be my first race on a street circuit this Sunday.

 Two more sleeps to go till Paeroa !! Yippe Yi Yeah! Starting to get very excited. Got the bike WOF yesterday, nice old man checked it over, lamenting the lack of kick starts and centre stands on bikes these days. :disapint:
So see you all at Clevedon 9.30am. Also, the girls going on the slow ride, please reconsider not going down the SH. I'm not a fast rider and would be cool to have some female company on the rides for a change. Boys have their uses, but its the usual story of 'Yeah babe, I'll stay and ride with you' but then the testosterone get pumping and ego's start building, engine's get revving and next thing you know you're starting to feel like the little red caboose, last in line, yelling out wait for me !!!

OK, I am pretty much all set, except for the fact that I don't have my bike!! LOL
I was supposed to go to Colemans and pick it up today but a bloody anoying Client kept me at work till 5:30, then was caught in traffic. By the time I got to Colemans, all I saw was shut doors, at 6! :(
For some reason, I always thought they closed at 7 but it was actually 5:30! There is so much that I had planed to do tonight on the bike but now I don't know, some how I guess I'll have to fit doing thoes things tomorrow at some stage in Paeroa.
When will I ever learn eh...
Check out my slight change in colour scheme tho. Thoes who have seen my race bike before, can you notice the difference? Like, don't like?
P.S. A huge thank you goes out to mlcrises for arranging sponcership for me for Paeroa!!!! I am rapt and very very greatful. Also Thanks to Chris for finaly giving us the big OK.
My sponcer as you can see from the pic is SDV International Logistics.

Me and MadDuck are leaving Westgate, West Auckland at 8am.... we are calling into Autobahn to refuel... so if you are there when we get there.... you can come and join us.... on our cruisey ride down... Its a possibility that Joni could be joining us as well.... depends on a few things for her.... . leave a message in the "slower ride down" thread..if you want....

Right! Just to confirm, We are all meeting at the Caltex on the Mt Wellington Highway Just off the Southern Motorway at 9am...
http://mapserver.wises.co.nz/5A76.png
Would this be the correct place?
And which route will we be going to get there? Via Miranda, and then where?
I think i might join in on the longer trip around the Coromandel. I also cant sit still for more than an hour or two.. (usually get sore feet!! :P) and stuff carrying around all my bike gear for too long...
But it will be mean to see Motoracer RACE! :2thumbsup
I am looking forward to this! :)

Hey Crashe, thanks for the offer but I'd better stick with my group for trip down. Hopefully can catch up with you guys later. Have a good ride down. :spudwave: Watch out for the boys in blue along that long straight before Paeroa.
Good luck MR. :niceone: Have an awesome ride Sunday (hope you manage to get your bike sorted without too much stress tomorrow!).

Me and Shade were just going to head off from KK's place at 8:20, I was hoping to get to Clevedon with enough time to gas up before the people from Mt Wellington arrived.
I guess we'll stop by at Repco too, it should be enough time to get to Clevedon and gas up if we leave Repco at 8:30, right?

Agree with WONCO. Bugjuice and I came up accross that way yesterday too. We very nearly got pinged at high speed  Just got away with it. Also another 4 or so patrol cars en route. So be observant or restrain it.
