Help: swingarm removal [Archive]

Ok on the right hand side of the bike theres a Nyloc nut, and on the lefthand side theres some castle nut thingy with a shaft inside it with internal hex like allen key.

Nyloc nut comes right off, piece of piss. Whack castle nut with drift and beeeg hammer and its solid as a cock, so I quit before I break something.

So how does the swingarm shaft come out? How much load is on the shock - can I just unbolt it and pull it out ?

What type of bike DB? Some of then need a pinch bolt on the opposite side to the nut to be undone. You will also need to take all the weight off the suspension.
? Why do you need to take out the swingarm pivot?

Um, what does the manual say ? I'd suspect that hex head in the shaft is there for a reason. If all else fails a gas axe will get most things off

? Why do you need to take out the swingarm pivot?GT650R. Swingarm is damaged where it has been nicked by the exhaust. It probably wont get a WOF and it looks like crap, and tidy replacement one is dead cheap. I'll upgrade the rear shock while I have it all apart.

Those sort of nuts are usually dealt to by a socket and a dremel, won't take much imagination to figure out what comes next :)

Looks like you need a special tool DB, but you might be able to make something to suit.

Thanks fellas. I asked at the bike shop, and they just take the locknut off the right hand side, and shove the rattle gun up the side with the castlenut and one squeeze and its off. Gunna try it tomorrow.
