I've looked at that one on trademe sevral times, but it's out of my budget.
I haven't really found a problem with parts apart from when I'm trying to cut costs. Most dealers over here stock all the parts but aren't the cheapest, and spectrum can now get them. I've used Dirt Action Services and a fella called linton for most of my parts, he has every little bit, he's cheap, and his knowledge is top notch, he even keeps a file so he knows my jetting etc. I'd speak to him beore you make any decisions 033890080, a real helpful guy.
Quality is good for the engine etc, but the plastics can be a bit shit. The power dilevery will be smooth and not like a mx bike so depends what you want.
As for the suspension I personally know a guy with a 250 with ohlins front and back and he said it's the best handling bike he's owned, and he's had the orange ones.
Check thumper talk for a less bias opinion.

they come standard with ohlins, which as everyone knows are the greatest bike suspension experts in the world. they are the shit. i want one hard. not the most awesomely powered beasts but unbeatable with the right rider in the enduro stuff. so it depends what riding you wanna do

It's the "racing edition" I think, they are doing a 6 day one for 09, but I guess this one was just brought in for the 6day event.
they drop in price from new quite a bit as people worry about parts etc for them, but not a problem now. It's been on trademe for a while, give him a grind you might get a bargin.

you can hardly compare two bikes in a race series when one of them doesn't enter it? if you can then i'd say: look at the World Enduro Championship, Gas gas pissing all over RMZs and KXFs for that matter. The TM300 and the KTM300 are very similar bikes to the Gasgas they'd all be great. I'm just saying that i'm a bit tired of muscleing my 450 1/4turn throttle weapon through the link track. and backflips while i'm trying to get up a hill are fun for a little while but at the end of the day... i wanna get to the top of the motherfucking hill. but in saying that... i fukken love whoopin you bitches asses through the karapoti gorge. gimme a gasgas and we'll dual at the MX track........bitch, then lay down and felate on my toe
Oh and as for GNCC... that's just a massive, narrow, MX track. And my bike'd be fine for that. it's the more hardcore tech shit that i wanna go faster in. Anyway, to the point, i'm hateing seeing these aucklanders with all the good rides and series so i'm taking my machette up karapoti on sunday and i'm gonna cut us an old track clear and stage an illegal cross country race. You in for some muscle work?

Be careful holding up the Ohlins on the Gas Gas to the aftermarket Ohlins available for any other bike. As in anything there are different price points to fill and different performance levels.
The Gas Gas are delivered with a price point Ohlins and are valved incredibly soft, not that suited to the Kiwi environment that often double dutys them for some off road riding and club MX.
What I'm saying is if you want a Gas Gas, buy a Gas Gas. Don't buy one because it has Ohlins suspension. If you want Ohlins suspension, be prepared to pay for it on the bike of your choice.
Having said that, I would prefer the price point Ohlins over the Marzocchis that most of these bikes come with.

You miss the point, most Kiwi's double duty their bikes here and don't just ride enduro's. Hence the popular use of MX bikes for trail riding and MX riding in one.
For working on the Ohlins you could try Robert Taylor at Crown Kiwi Technical or perhaps Linton in Christchurch for the Marzocchis. I've worked on friends Gas Gas's before because they are friends bikes, but have turned away customers who have come to me with them in recent times due to the hassle in stocking parts for a bike that I see few off, the price of the parts and the hassle, down time and cost of having fork tubes re annodised and machining bushing lands (marzocchis). So no, I prefer you not to bring your Gas Gas to me although I can really help those with WP forks, but there are not many with them. Your comment was cynical and defensive to jump to Gas Gas's defense but I wasn't looking for work, just trying to offer some helpful advice.

so Danger your saying you wont work on Marzocchis because there hard to get parts for?
Just saying its not worth me stocking them. I got a set of OEM seals for a friends set of Marzocchis, they cost me about $96.00, not looking to make profit on a friends set but it makes it hard to pass on the costs to a customer and make any kind of profit. Add on other costs to sort the forks out and its not much fun for me or the customer.
I did try to get a replacement piston for another set which a butcher had ruined by drilling out and breaking the piston. It wasn't available and I was unable to replace it.

sweet as, I did point out it was an enduro bike not an mx bike. It was just a bit of tongue and cheak, if you don't want the work at the moment don't do it, theres plenty of well qualified people that will. And yeah I'd choose Linton due to his knowledge, service, and very resonable prices.

i recon it's helpful, good to know about stuff like part availabilty and different opinions on bike suitability. I'd say the gas gas is a sweet buy especially because it has the ohlins suspension because you'll have no problems finding parts for ohlins suspension. they're one of the biggest suspension companys in the world. like i said before, buy it and gimme a hoon

Yep' the ole mx vs enduro bike for riding rears it head again. I dare to venture that its easier to modify a mx bike for enduro type terrain than ride an enduro bike effectively in mx.
Mx bikes by their nature are built light and for speed. A major drawback for some is the gearbox. But in tight enduro conditions are you really changing gear that often? if you gear your bike suitably (front and rear sprocket) to match the style of riding your doing then your halfway there.
You can tone down the delivery of an mx bike (flywheel weight - 4 stroke / reed valves two stroke) quite easily. Not to mention the dual ignition curves that are being offered on things like the new kato's and the gas gas we are looking at.
I still maintain a 48 tooth sprocket on the back of a 450 is a good compromise to keep the front end down on the steep hills, along with some smooth clutch action and familiarity with the bikes tolerances. You can torque those engines when needed without excessive clutch use or just use the huge bottom end to tractor through / over / under obstacles / ruts whilst staying just above idle. If your not supremely fit and have to stop every now and then they are far more forgiving than a two stroke. Untouchable on the open sections.
Kez is a bit of a technical rider though and he'd probably enjoy the added weight reduction/ flikability of the gas gas. But definately ride before you buy in this case. It'd take a bit of getting used to after a 450 ie little or no engine braking, keeping it on the pipe all the time (specially the 200's 250's), and getting roosted with Karipoti greywacke by us as we fly past you on the 450's bettween brakes.
Remember sunday kez? those kato 2 smokers struggling to get up the 'a' section of the totara trailride, those guy's were reasonably seasoned riders too. Competition types. My dirty ole 450' got up there with little fuss. Possibly a fluke though :sweatdrop... had to drop the tyre pressure a bit for that one..
But that gas gas is a nice bike! probably take 6g for it... 70 hours on it. he's looked after it.

Tried what you say with my CR250, fly wheel weight, gearing, tuning etc and never got it quite like the 200exc is straight out of the box. Never could achieve the low down torque the 200 has! But in saying that I'm not what you'd call a seasoned rider either!
You might be quite correct when applying that scenerio to 4 strokes though never owned one so I don't know.
Also your point about the hill climb. There's no doubt in my mind the power delivery of a 4 stroke does make them very good climbers!! But with 3 bikes to run for me and the kids I simply can't afford it! I can strip a 2 smoker down blind folded but them expensive titanium valves scare me!

yea, im not bagging your choice of bike by any means. i think for your riding style and genre what you have is probably better - at the end of the day the bike you can ride most comfortably and fastest at the same time is the best bike forr you.

I see you've decided on an orange bike, but anyway on the subject of the gasgas....
I have one of the sellout EC300 07 Gassers.
Most of the 07's in NZ got the Ohlins rear shock (a few didn't).
Dirt Action in Chch really do know the GasGas well. Both co-owners have owned several of them.
I purchased mine for trail riding, and recreational riding, which it seems quite suitable for.
The 07's biggest fault is the plank they jokingly call a seat.
Dirt Action can sort that out for you at a reasonable price. Ive just had mine done, and its a huge improvement.
There was an index of reviews for various models here (not working right this minute):

Don't get me wrong my 01 tractured very well from down low but it was and always will be an MX based bike compared to the exc's.
Secondly I'm not criticising the CR, its a damn good bike, it was just a bit wrong for my type of riding and ability, which doesn't mean that applies to anyone else!

So no, I prefer you not to bring your Gas Gas to me although I can really help those with WP forks, but there are not many with them. Your comment was cynical and defensive to jump to Gas Gas's defense but I wasn't looking for work, just trying to offer some helpful advice.
Can you tell me why I deserved the bad gas for the above post and you telling me I need to pull my head in Rupert? You seem to get upset anytime I offer my advice on Gas Gas threads. Whats your problem? Call me on 832 0153 and get it off your chest if your man enough instead of feeding me bad gas for no reason!

Its all good. But I haven't purchased the Gas Gas, BUT I have made a purchase, Danger I think your be pleased in my choice.
Hey 2slo, Did you get that nice 07 in Kapiti? I rang him just after he sold it.
I ended up going even further south, just bought one in Ashburton. Bit of a (orange) roughy but price was good. Guy emailed me plenty of close-up photos but will find out how 'fishy' the deal was when BikeTranz brings it up to me!
Ha. Danger I knew I'd make a better one turn up by buying one. Saw that one on TradeMe this morning and immediately spotted your sticker on the forks. From clutch cover wear looks like a few hours on it but has steering damper, new plastics etc. etc. Looks like a good one.

I found that the 01s were much more snappy than our bikes. nothing down low at all. My bike is like a 4 stroke in comparison!
