There was something somewhere in here ( and i can't find it ) where someone got their full licence before the time period was up...

Can anyone point me to this thread please :)

Sorry, don't know about the post....

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/factsheets/28.html

You can apply for a full licence after 18 months on your restricted licence if you are under 25 years old, or after six months on your restricted licence if you are 25 or older.

If you successfully complete an approved course, the length of time you must hold your restricted licence for will be reduced to 12 months for those aged under 25 years, and three months for those 25 or older. You must present the course certificate to the driver licensing agent when you book the practical test.

If you're under 25, you can only complete an approved course after you've had your restricted licence for at least six months

Thanks mate but its slightly different, there is a process whereby you can skip the 3 or 6 months all together, provided you have a good reason :)

ah well i guess i will just have to wait till the 14th of jan sigh!

If i were you Koz i would book it now or at least see how full the all the testing places schedules are..

I tried to get mine sorted today as i'm eligible on the 27th of November for my full. The closest day they could get was the 16th of December through AA Barton St (AA 5 X roads the test).. Tomorrow i'm going to give them a call and see if i can get that transfered to an outlying AA Branch sooner..

Yeah best i could get was 12th in whangamata... its tempting, mum lives in whanga so i would have a coffee and a beer afterwards :) but its probably easier for the 14th.

As mrchips mentioned above - the only way to reduce the waiting time is by sitting an advanced riding skills course.

If you're under 25, completing the course reduces the time you have to wait on the restricted license from 18 months to 12 months.

If you're over 25, completing the course reduces the time you have to wait on the restricted license from 6 months to 3 months.

I know that passrite (http://www.passrite.co.nz) offer an advanced riding skills course, but I don't know anybody who has done it.

I know that side of it and you are right but there is a way to apply for a time exemption. I have read it on here and talked to ltsa about it in the past but i can't for the life of me find it.

Guess i will be doing it the orthodox way sigh

I think I remember a thread about a guy getting his full early.Although he held several licences already( all clean) and worked night shift so had to ride after hours on the m/way.
Any one can apply for a deduction on the time they need to wait(with the appropriate fee of course) and LTSA will think about it.

You can apply for exemption in terms of restricted hours, CC, or pillion exemption. Each case is taken as is and individually, you've just gotta explain exactly why you MUST have an exemption.

Yeah I think it's "Tank" who outlined clearly his way of going about it, there is a thread about, use the search function and you should be able to find it.

And yes once you have an exemption they sometimes let you sit your full test early anyway, as I said, depending on case by case.

:2thumbsup

Costs like 20 bucks to apply, good luck!

Oh, and yeah just gotta head to your local licensing agent and ask for the motorcycle exemption form and voila. Fill it out, it'll be sent to Palmy, they'll give ya a call sometime and let you know what's up, or just send you a letter back saying yay or nay.

I work for LTNZ so can help.
Ring 0800 822 422, and get us to have a look at when you passed your test each, if it is wrong then we can backdate it for you.

As for tests in Hamilton, there is only 1 test site (AA 5X roads) so if you are wanting something earlier you will have to go to surrounding districts, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Huntly etc.
From now till early New Year it gets really busy. Suggest you book asap

I'm 46 and had my car and truck licence for years. Got my first bike (a BMW 650) in April along with my learners. Applied for an exemption to ride the bike and to ride at night to get home from work. LTNZ gave me the exemption and offered to let me sit my full licence after 6 months on my learners, one time only shot at it. I didn't ask for it, they offered! Got it 2 weeks ago. I booked at AA Meadowlands in Howick. Less than a week waiting time there.

Here you go:

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=59445&highlight=full

Basically you can get exemption to go directly to your full. I got my dispensation for this after 2.5 months of riding.

Its not your experience they are looking for butt he reason they are granting it - in my case because I do a lot of open road riding by necessity.

In fact LTNZ were the ones who offered it as a solution to the 70km issue to me - I didnt even know about it or ask for it.

I ended up with the following:
• I will be given dispensation for date XX to test ride bikes upto 800cc as long as it does not have a “Z” in the model.
• Once I have selected a bike I will be given dispensation for that bike only
• I am then allowed to sit my full licence (ONE TIME ONLY) – if I pass I no longer have to have learners or restricted restrictions – I go directly to my full licence - Do no pass go, do not collect $200 – sweeeeet
o However if I fail I have to remain under the constraints of the learners / restricted with the exception of the larger bike dispensation.

Depends - if she's a 'looker' attach a pic of her wearing very little to your application and hope you get a bloke accessing it.

In order to assist you if this is a good idea or not please post pic in this thread first.

Cheers Tank. Really interesting about travelling on open road and getting the exemption for that. Never thought of that. I would kinda have a case there since I live in the country and SH3 is out the door but don't think they'll go for it since I have a car and could use that.

It was a good way of doing it asking about test riding exemption.

You cheeky bugger! ;) you can't make a statement like that without proof. Until I see proof she shall be classed as a [END OF TRANSMISSION]

I took Oscarnz's advice & got potentially 2 weeks off my ristricted Licence time (if i pass), just by transfering to Rotorua..

Now all i have to do is pass my test and not get shot in the face by Rotovegas cagers who feel that i'm following them too close & get upset :2guns: :shit:

That one is a pretty funny exemption, IMHO.
So you could ride a GSX-R750, or a CBR-600RR, but not a DR-Z400 or a Kawasaki Z440!

Hard case. Not that I'd be complaining, mind. :niceone:
