Spank/Anyone : Why can't we post polls anymore?

Anyway, just a quick indication of interest, is anyone keen on a ride up the Takas this friday or saturday, at midnight? (11 or 12 Feb)
It's not officially organised yet, but for planning purposes I guess we'd meet at Caltex Rimutaka at 11:30pm.

I guess though, that that rules out learner and restricted riders, sorry :(

*EDIT* Would have to be in the warm weather, as I'm guessing the road gets damp at night in Autumn or winter. The traffic is really light at that time, and the view of the sky is second to none. The cafe was closed for some reason when I was up there last night, odd that :spudwhat:

Stoney. Why didn't you vote in your own poll?

And why not do it on the 25th when there will be a full moon to howl at (if it's a clear bright moonlight night)?

i cant speak for all coons who like to take there cars for a thrash after having a few drinks but rimutakaas was always a bit of fun in skyline. watch out for them at that time. during the day you dont get them as much but at night. thats verging on a death wish

So Saturday night seems better then. Now, who wants a ride leaving Caltex at 23:30, up the hill and home at whatever time, OR, who wants to leave Caltex at say 03:00 or 04:00, go for a ride, and have brekky somewhere interesting?

I'm happy either way.

yes... speaking from a past experience with Skylines and SDU www.skylinesdownunder.co.nz I would agree that 00:00 till 03:00 is a dangrous time to be on a bike around the back roads, as those are time times that I used to come out and have a hoon on the back roads.

Cars have better lights and can react better to unpredictable conditions better than bikes.. and a "cage" if you do crash. Heck.... I even wear my motorsports helmet at times.

I would suggest time from around 3~4am.... the skylines would be on their way home by then... or from around 00:00 sunday night ~ monday morning...

I have been thinking of going out on night rides in Akl actually, but I think I might stick to the street lighted section 1st.

but if you do come up to auckland on your bike, I'll be keen!

I'm keen for a night ride under the right conditions ie..dry road without too much wind.
Stonechucker and I were up there on Sat night in perfect weather, plus being away from all the city lights we got an awesome show of the milky way.
If you do come across Boy Racers, don't challenge them just slow down and let em pass so you live to fight another day.

So what do we know about the Takas? Lots of oil slicks, no lighting.

What do we know about group rides? Lots of people trying to prove their place in the pecking order. :doctor:

Last midnight ride I went on we spent most of it waiting for the ambulance to clear up poor old Rachel & she didn’t even make it as far as the Taks.

Get someone to pre-ride it at last light on Friday & have a plan for the accidents. Good luck.

(hitchers idea from the wainui ride, but with my headlight and only having my contacts at the mo, it's as far as I'm goin in the dark)
