I have been thinking...always a worry....:(

Look I know Katman is getting bad press over his opinions on the likes of Carver and yes I wish he would perhaps roll a spliff and relax, however, I have met Katman and I have great respect for him and whilst some may not like his approach, we must not forget the message which I support.

I find it odd when there are many threads / posts abusing cagers and boy racers (Are we not the ultimate boy racers??) for bad behaviour yet when someone attacks the way we behave, it seems to be a no no.

How can we judge others if we cannot allow ourselves to be judged.

Listen to the message not the delivery...

I've met Katman too, and he is a good bastard! He is, however a little more difficult on the eye than his lovely sister!

No one likes any message jammed up their arse. You might be right, but we might be right too, so if you get to jam your message, then we get to fucken jam ours.

Bend over, or back off. Its not rocket science.

This is a public forum after all,

so if you don't like hearing someones opinion then don't listen, cause you actually don't have to.

I think Katman is fine (haven't met the man or been here long), he adds another dimension like every other member and as has been said, has some valid points.

I think K's calmed down remarkably.

I remember one weekend when I was a mentor back when he was new on the scene and trying to get his point across in a much more strident fashion that he does now.

His message is good. While I may not agree with K's delivery I applaud his passion and enthusiasm. Hopefully he'll make a difference with some (although I fear at 41 I'm pretty much a lost cause now).

Long may your crusade continue Steve.

To be clear, I am all for his message. I'd send my learner kid along to hear his lessons, but I doubt said kid would choose to go back. Hey if he did want to go back, do you think I would be happy about it? Of course I would.

I'm 40 and a bit now, and I am interested in all sorts of things, but I am not remotely interested in any of them being righteously and repeatedly shoved up my arse - even the really interesting ones.

My message is not dissimilar - just themed slightly different. "Go have fun, but don't get yourself killed. Remember you have a family, and that they are going to cry when you are dead, so sharpen up! Now fuck off and learn to wheelie." ;)

A bit skewed - I'd go along with you on that if he said he indulged in booze and/or the weed then jumped on his bike (or behind the wheel of his car for that matter). But the inference from your post is anyone with a safety message would therefore never drink, never take medication which might affect their concentration etc. It's quite different to do those things when you're not about to take charge of a potential lethal weapon. (No Mel Gibson and Danny Glover jokes!!!) Katman's message is to do with safe motorcycle practice, not "don't drink, don't do drugs".

I'm sorry. I have no idea what Katmans mesage is. I suspect that very few do as it's wrapped in obscenity and a childish inability to understand other people. Like a child he lashes out when someone speaks reason.

From what I have read I am left assuming that his message is as follows:

You breathe - you ara a fuckwit.
You eat - you are a fuckwit.
You go fishing - you are a fuckwit.
You watch telly - you are a fuckwit.

It seems that no one except himself can do anything right. he signs all his messages and bling "fuckwit" though so at least he's right on one subject.

Katman's message is to do with safe motorcycle practice, not "don't drink, don't do drugs".

Ah, but that's the thing. No matter what you do, there is always someone to think that they have the right to tell you what is good for you. If you want to impose lessons, you better be perfect.

I generally agree with the behavior recommended by Katman, but I find him at times very offending in his comparisons (e.g. motorcycle cancer) or in how he tries to impose his view on you, no matter what you think and with no nuances.

With so much hammering, the only good he'll really achieve is a high record in the 'Ignore List' section. Yes, he might get the odd fool to improve his/her riding after one of his posts, but then there might be another fool to do exactly the opposite.

There are other people on this forum to get a similar message across with much more respect and, I believe, success.

Sarcasm is the sneering, jesting, or mocking of a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound — stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. using "that's fantastic" to mean "that's awful".

Katmans verbal masturbation and 'look at me' grandstanding serves no real purpose other than to alienate those folk who's behaviour he wishes to change.

Efforts to succinctly point out his poor communicative ability are met with abusive PM's and thinly veiled threats.

I find this post slightly offensive and its completely incorrect therefore giving the wrong impression to all those that read your post. Although all the nicknames are correct when talking about cannabis, the mixing of cannabis and tobacco is an Aussie bad habit. Anyone who hands me a splif with tobacco mixed in it is likely to end up with it in their beer. A spliff is a cannabis ciggerette, no tobacco, no filter, just cannabis rolled in zig-zag (or alternative) paper(s - depending on the size you want). Im feeling old now because Ive just realised how long ago it was since I last did that.

I, like many others I suspect, will happily agree that the message Katman is trying to get across has real merit.
However, the only people he'll ever get across to are the people who realise - either through rational thought or experience - that it has merit. Those that he would like to reach the most are the most likely to disregard him entirely. Ergo, it's a failed effort.

I've never met the man in person and shall not presume to pass judgement of any kind. I can only say 'good on ya' for caring. However, throwing abuse at everyone who thinks differently from yourself is a pretty petty way to behave.

And why is there even a thread on this subject? And why do I bother posting? Dunno, but am looking forward to the holidays - and maybe even some weed.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

After previous posts in another thread today, I will NEVER respect him. He has ZERO compassion for anyone else. He is selfish. I don't care what anyone is trying to achieve, what he did today, was over the line.

I don't often get upset about posts on the net but after this lot, I'm fuming...

lol I must be getting fairly old then as a joint and spliff was the same thing in my day. Each to their own I guess and if your paying for the stuff it would make it last longer. Although if I had ever had to pay for the stuff I would have never tried it. One of the benefits of growing up with my own garden learning to grow fruit and vegetables, this stuff grows like Pooha!

Sadly there are some members that do not know what lines they cross bringing comment to things which they know nothing about, all in an effort to promote their message.

Listen to the message not the delivery...

I agree with most of what Katman says.
However I think he is wasting his time, as motorcyclists are simply not (and never will be) a coherent group. Actually the fact that I used the word "motorcyclists" to describe us is a good indication of the problem. I loathe the word "biker" - it conjures up images of...of... of.... (actually I won't say 'cause I have enough red rep for the minute).

The first time I was ever called a "biker", was by a colleague at work 20 years ago- a man considerably older than me, who rode (and very slowly I might add), a Honda GL500 Silver Wing. He said - "...I hear you're a fellow biker..?" I was taken aback - how could this Nana, this silly old coot on an overfettled boat anchor, have any connection with me (a windswept dirt bike he-man)?
Shit, I didn't even ride on the road...

The problem is that the public see us as one group and that is inherently unfair, as can be exemplified by the fact that the media don't say "Dangerous Carpersons", they say "Boy Racers". But when reporting on motorcycle riders they don't differentiate - they say "bikers" or "motorcyclists" This means that whereas all car drivers don't get painted the same as their hoon element, we do.

So for a minute, put yourself in Katmans shoes - he's got a lot invested in this sport/hobby/lifestyle and tries to protect it - but he gets categorized with young fuckwits like Carver..

So these days, I may be that Nana in the eyes of some younger enthusiasts, as I share Katmans impending sense of doom. I may not see us a cogent group, but the fucking politicians do, and they don't like what they see...

I never find a lack of reason to be amused at the BS that is KB. Funny thing is, I see people ripping into people who I KNOW, if they met in real life, would probably find that they get on like a house on fire.

Shit people, it is the internet...what is it if there cannot eb a bit of pisstaking and tom foollery. Every forum has its own little set of characters, each playing out there own little part of the theatre.

My only complaint is that so ,much of the decent, piss taking and bull crap goes into PD!!!!! Once upon a time, I could log onto KB and it felt like a largish group of mates all taking the piss and giving each other shit while passing the time before the next group ride or BBQ or whatever.

Now it feels like a bit of a place where key board warriors log in to to talk abotu bikes and general shit and to pontificate about biking *should* be and how bikers *should* behave.

FFS all, this summer...get ur arses into the saddle and off the keyboard and have a bit of fun.

Jesus people are too serious!

Katman expresses his opinion with a canon when a slingshot will do, and people ignore him and thus make his "your a fuckwit ignorant idiot.... blah blah" comments 100% correct because they are ignoring and being petulant in response to having someone pick their nose for them.

"A good message ignored is a poor message heard" - unknown poet

I personally applaud him for his ferocity, and see his only failing being that the ones who do listen often have their enthusiasm completely demolished for some time.

This whole "to the bitter end i am going to bash this keyboard till that fucker feels it" mentality has stepped past weird and gone to totally crazy, by the way an electronic threat of violence is considered as serious as one that is face to face, the difference being dates, times, posts and ip addresses are recorded verbatim online.

I'm not the first on here to try to get this message across - just maybe one of the more stubborn fuckers. People constantly say they have no problem with my message but rather with the delivery. (Delivery? What - because I swear a lot?) Those people need to get over the "delivery" bit and see that the way forward, out of this shit motorcyclists have created for themselves, is to vocally support the message regardless of whether you like me or not.

As I mentioned a while back in another thread, drink driving has become socially unacceptable largely due to peer pressure.

No, the concept of peer pressure actually works something like this..........

"You're being a stupid fuck"

"You're being a stupid fuck"

"You're being a stupid fuck"

"You're being a stupid fuck"...........

Until the person starts thinking "Hey, maybe I am being a stupid fuck".

My understanding and experience of psychology and human change management is that the normal human response to that is normally "get fucked who the fuck are you?"

You even run the risk in your example that you convince the person that they are indeed "a stupid fuck". If for example I believe that I am a "stupid fuck" how do you think I'm going to behave.....?

If it really is the message that is important you should at least consider other possible approaches. Or even multiple approaches as people are all different (except me).

Katman

Correct, if it's only one person saying it. Perhaps you mistook my post above as being said by one person in broken record fashion. It was meant as four different people saying the same thing.

Peer pressure only works when it's a number of people giving you the same message. (Except on me - cos I'm stubborn as fuck).

Bass

Those people need to get over the "delivery" bit and see that the way forward, out of this shit motorcyclists have created for themselves, is to vocally support the message regardless of whether you like me or not.

I can go with that, but from where I am sitting, it seems to me that the people who you and I think, most need to hear the message, just don't believe that there is a problem in the first place. They are quite happy with the status quo, thank you very much and have no intention of modifying their behaviour to suit you or I or any other cunt for that matter.

Those who bother to actually argue with you in here (and by that I probably mean debate with you from some rationalised standpoint) rather than just call you a prize prick, are those who have already got the message and thought about it to some degree. So despite what they say about your delivery, you have already got your message across there anyway and so have succeeded.
It is the people who (call you a prize prick and) dismiss you as irrelevant and just go their own way, that are the people who do us the most damage. But you ain't getting to that group, which is why I contend that those who need to most, are those who are not listening.

Peer pressure may do it, but you will need to be really stubborn as it seems like a lifetime's work to me. I am sorry to say it, but for peer pressure to work, you need to have the majority on your side and it is simply contrary to human nature to expect those you irritate to side with you. You ask us to be more adult than most of us actually are.

You still don't get it... using people you never knew, or the facts of the accidents in which they passed, for YOUR crusade, is downright selfish and stupid. Most don't have an issue with the message but you need to FUCKING THINK about how you do it! In the above example, your message was completely lost because you stirred emotion. WRONG! Once emotions get involved, your message is screwed/fucked/lost! I find it strange you take the high ground for your message but take the low ground to get it across...

Everyone on here understands what you are trying to say but everyone has different versions of what's right and wrong. It's a conscience thing. Mine differs to yours. ONLY when I do something against MY conscience, will I stop and think. You and yours be fucked...

I've also realised that you can only go 'so far' in any argument before it's on deaf ears. I reached that point long ago with you but decided to continue anyway. I'm over it now though....

I'll take that as an admission of defeat then.

You've defeated a lot of people in your time, then?

I have been thinking...always a worry....:(

I find it odd when there are many threads / posts abusing cagers and boy racers (Are we not the ultimate boy racers??)

I do not think that we are.

Boy racers, on the whole, from my experiences with them, appear to be half-wit idiots only interested in showing off for all of their idiotic friends and trying to get laid. I had the displeasure of working with one, and he was the most hypocritical arsehole I think I have ever met. Nothing was ever his fault - everyone else was always to blame. All rights and no responsibilities.

Yes there are some dumb bikers out there. But at the same time most of the bikers I have met, in my age bracket (mid 20's) are intelligent people. If they were complete half wit idiots then they would be dead by now, especially the ones on the bigger bikes.

I just watched the news articles on these buggers, going on about how they are "sick and tired of being harassed by cops". If they weren't acting the way they do, they wouldn't get harassed, but no, of course it's the cops fault for harassing them.
