Thanks Charlie, Thanks Euan !!!
After watching the long way up / down a few times my wife has really started taking a interest in trying riding a 'real' bike (shes currently on a AN125).
This evening we are out for dinner and in front of the kids she said - "Dad and I are saving up - we are going to ride from the Bottom of South America to the top over about 6 weeks"
She hadn't even told me. She hasn't even been on anything bigger that the scoot.
South America is an area that has always fascinated us and has been a dream to go to - I just never thought we would be doing it on bikes !!!!
Its a long way out time wise - but she sounds really committed and has even said I can start looking for another bike for her (yay! Xmas shopping).
Fucken stoked like you cannot believe!!!!
I hope it happens - but even if we dont make it to South America (and I see no reason why we cannot do it) Im sure we are going to be able to do tours of NZ / Aust etc.
Today has been a good day! So happy to be able to share the joy of biking with the missus.

I'm not even sure I'm talking to you with that avatar.
We had a Sth America ride report by Roscoe in the last couple of KR mags. He was at big boys toys and reckons it was a blast.

It is a wonderful place to travel. I completed riding down the western side a few months back. If you get there do not miss Colombia. Place and people are just wonderful. Am planning on riding the haul rode, Alaska, next year and then if all goes to plan back to ride some more in South America after that. May see you down the road.

Blimey what a legend, sounds like an amazing trip.
I've always fancied doing East to West coast of the US but Sarf America will be blinding.
Keep us posted on progress and if you are doing a sausage sizzle to raise some moolah, I'll have two with onions, ketchup and mustard...oh fuck it, make it three
Good on ya mate

Yeah - I spoke to him at BBT's and My wife was reading his brochure and KR the week before she 'broke the news'
And I like my Avatar!

Do you have any ideas about what kind of bike she will be getting?
ADVrider has some good threads on small adventure bikes. Here are two of the larger ones:
250cc touring thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201349)
Bikes for short people thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11631) (I have no idea how tall your wife is, but statistically speaking, most women are short from an adventure bike perspective)

Mildly off topic, but was anyone else a little annoyed when Ewen's wife joined them on Long Way Down?
Seemed like she was interrupting a boys trip. If she had tagged along from the start, All good. I got the feeling Charley wasn't overly excited about it either.
Not that this has anything to do with Tank's situation. It sounds like an awesome trip, with a pretty cool lady. Make sure you try all the local .... exports.

Thanks for that Rosie. No I havnt been able to give it much thought as yet as she only told me last night.
I will read both threads this evening. You are right she is a shortie - so the right bike is going to be a little harder to find. Im guessing a DL1000 like mine is going to be waaaaaay to much!

Sounds like a bloody good adventure to me. Lucky bastards!
Although I hope, for your own sake, that you'll be ever so slightly better at planning than E&C were in the Long Way Round...
