I see that they have got street view available for NZ now in Google maps. Just choose the address you are interested in , drag the little pegman icon onto the map and hey presto there is a 360 degree photo taken from street level. Good job I had painted the house, but the lawn looks a bit rough

If I catch one of those fuckers taking the photos I am going to make sure that they get a couple of decent shots of their lower intestines. It won't be an internal shot either.
Would you recognise them? They just drive around in a special car with a fancy camera gizmo poking out the roof. Apparently, it doesn't even use GPS - just some fancy-schmancy inertial dohickeys and accelerowhatsits to work out where it is relative to where it was a nanosecond ago.
Beats me iffen it's so technofreaky why the photographic evidence ends up being of the neighbour's house. Thank goodness my mouse can drag the viewpoint 20m or so further up the road. I mean, I'd really hate to believe the images were really my house, and ride home tonight and park in the gargre of the asian dude on the corner whose name I don't even know. Could get embarrassing.
Reminds me: my next door neighbour (yeah him - the nosey one who's responsible for the stupid fucking pedestrian island / traffic 'calming measure' [fuck I hate those bureaucratic weaselwordz]) erected a fence, just inside his boundary, because there were some shrubby things on the boundary he didn't want to disturb. Because it was on his property, he didn't ask the asian dude neighbour on the corner what he thought, nor did he ask him for money or help. He was also careful to keep it under the regulation council-enforced height.
So, he duly finished the fence (did a good job too), added a nice fiddly trellis thingie along the top, painted it with some of the 20,000litres of redwood-flavoured acrylic fencepaint he bought at auction, and that was that.
However (but!) asian corner house dude neighbour guy decided (apparently) he didn't like the fence, on account of the fiddly trellis work along the top. Mebbe it attracted Hungry Ghosts, or bad feng shui or summat. So... he erected his own fence inside his boundary, just tall enough that it obscured the other trellis-crowned, redwood-flavoured monstrosity.
Soon, Nosey Neighbour is going to demolish the fence on our boundary (he's warned me several times). But because he's also said he'd gonna pay for all the materials, and asked me nicely to just help him erect the new one, I don't give a rodent's rectum. He can put as much fiddly decoration and whatnot on it as he wants. I'm not going to erect a bigger! Better! one on our section to hide it.
Nor am I going to complain about his pohutukawa trespassing on a few cm of our section that serves no use apart from needing mowing; that's the vifferbabe's job. Territory? Pfft!!

I moved jobs at work and it's no longer my job to moniter teh interweb usage, or control it or shape it.. That being said I did suggest to the person who does such things that he should do evil things to the users google maps access.

Re the state, despite what the lefties think Key is WAY too centrist to start getting big brother, and if they did start going down the authoritarian nationalist path what on earth makes you think i'd stop them? :-P

Re foreign states, If they want to take over, they can.. we have no defense force to speak of, and we've already let shitloads of 3rd worlders in to destroy the country from the inside. Within 50 years we'll be part of Indonesia.. you just watch.. There is a reason Aussie keeps 80% of its armed forces up north :-)

What or who is it for?Anyone to scope your house out for good stuff to steal.
If it's just for our benefit, then it's awfully nice of someone to do all that for free. Must have cost a bit. A minor drop of the cash injection from advertising and share speculation that Google rake in every second. Good on them for that.

Just remember: anyone who says they are doing something for free is a lying, rabid dog. Anyone from a Government or Corporate who says they are here to help should be shot out of hand, with the weapon we should be allowed to freely use at our own discretion.

She's got an unlisted number but her house is there for all to see, complete with the dodgy looking guy in a hoodie (probably her son...) strolling past. I've just been looking at Barry's Point Road... Cycletreads was closed & so was Cyclespot, Holeshot was at the last stages of putting their bikes away for the night, street lights were on and it had been raining. What a miserable sight. I think we should all report Barry's Point Road for its miserableness and insist they go back and re-do it in the sunshine with all the bikes outside.
