Well think about it... If they know your address, they can come have a look for themselves... A real life look and get distances, dimensions, escape routes etc... Way better than a 2 dimensional image...
Agreed we feel like we've lost our privacy.. but hey... if a crook knows your address, thats bad enough...

Hopefully people won't have their bikes parked out in front of their place in full view of the street anyway. If they have, I don't know if Google Streetview is adding to their problems - probably more likely that a real passer-by will nick it rather than a virtual passer-by.

I see they came around on a Friday where I am ... got the recycling and rubbish out! And also near inorganics time ... got an old tyre still propped up against the tree!
Dizzam, what next, google maps inside your house? :sweatdrop
Or google map your own body and see what its like inside?

While i was away on business a guy knocked on our front door early on a week day, said he was from the council & asked if he could "have a look at your garage please".
As my wife was in busy she didn't think twice & let this tugjob have a good ol' snoop around our friggin backyard.
I done my nut when she told me so i rang the council to tell them to feck off & leave us alone, as you do & you guesed it.... it wasn't one of them.
god knows who the feck it was !!!!!!
If your wife, partner, kids, dog is home alone tell them to NOT LET ANY BASTARD ON YOUR PROPERTY, dam it.

I now wonder if our insurance premiums will take yet another increase.
We all need to take heed of how vulnerable our possessions are and take control of the situation.

LOL A guy from the council knocked on my door when I was home alone and asked to have a look around the back yard. I said no. He said he had to have a look so he could do some permit stuff, and anyway it wouldn't take long. I said get lost. He got very grumpy and said he wasn't going to come inside the house - it was only the back yard! I got even grumpier and said we rent the back yard as well you know and if I saw him snooping around I would call the police!
Turned out the landlords were subdividing and had specifically given him permission to go onto the property at 10am on a week day when they obviously thought nobody would be home. I came home another day to find surveyors' marker pegs all around the property.
Blinking landlords messed us about seriously over the next few weeks and when we caused a fuss they gave us minimum notice because "their mother was moving in." LIARS! :angry2:
Sorry, off topic but still annoys me.

Got a picture of my letterbox...
As for someone coming to the door? Strangers get as far as the outer gate where they are confronted by 2 dogs...and the Rotty does a good kujo impersonation, even better if you come after dark...then she will actually try and get over/thru the fence to 'welcome ya'.
Fill ya boots!
(different story if you are a friend eh Dangerous? Then she will try and get onto your lap for cuddles...)

Well done barty5 and well done google! They said you could report your concerns and they would blur it or remove it - nice to hear it really works.
I was checking out the old place I used to live and there was a photo of a guy getting some camera gear out of the back of a station wagon. The interior of the car had been blurred - I suspect he had other expensive gear inside there too.
All faces and number plates seem to be blurred in the NZ version. on some overseas versions they don't seem to be as careful.

To me, all this says, is 'hey! these people have expensive stuff at their house that we have to blur out!' .... like an open invitation for burglars to investigate further! I think it's an invasion of privacy... Unless someone knew where I lived or drove slowly down my street looking in at all the houses, which would kind of draw mega attention from the neighbours and hopefully someone would at least call the police or jot down their number plate, then potential burglars could not skope out specific addresses... Voila! Now they can!!!:2guns:

i tkinda dose but in my case there is my house the orginal then there are 20 other units which just means someone out of many dosnt want you lookin. Also means they would have to do a fair bit of looking to work out what people dont want you to see.

Some interesting views about this
I think that because its not a constant stream, its not really a major invasion of priacy, unless it has you doing something private!
And even if you are doing something you dont want people seeing, ask them to block it and they will
I dont think this is really any different to people following you home after you buy something expensive, or come back from riding!
If thieves really want to see they will, and they are just as likely to drive down the road and look for them selves, than at an image thats rather old
Its like, these people driving down the road are invading my privacy because they may see something valueable, because thats what the goggle map view is, what you see driving down the road
