Well not many have responded to a xmas ride at Thunder the weekend of the 20th, so I think that I'll be heading down for a last ride of the year to the Mr Motorcyles ride this weekend at Paparimu

Sunday 14th December 2008

Paparimu, in association with the Paparimu School

Anyone else keen to head along?

I haven't done this ride specifically, but I think it's another rolling farmland type ride, so you should be sweet. My partner did a bunch of the MM rides last year for his first ones, and I had a go at one the other week, doable enough, just a few scary dropoffs

I heard that this one is nasty if its wet.

Paparimu is much steeper and more techincal than all our other rides, if is is wet this weekend it will be slippary, to be honest if you think Glen Murray had big drop offs i do not reccomend Paparimu, it is much steeper,

Sounds like it will be good, but the forecast is for a bit of rain.

If dust would be a problem the rain early in the week should deal to that
The metservice rain radar is never gonna be positive this early in the week for the weekend, iv had it say torrential rainfall on saturday, go for a ride on both saturday and sunday and have brilliantly dry tracks and no rain till monday night!
So it may or not rain given what its showing at the moment, but i will still go unless it rains non stop from now till sunday :blank:

According to the forecast it looks like rain, so your options could turn out like this....

- Paparimu, steep, drop offs, good slippery down hills and bogs.
- Riverhead, same stuff but with trees.
- The Dome practice MX, same stuff but racing through it at speed with the odd double and table top thrown in.

All in all a bloody good weekend coming up really.

Im out this time, was by far one of the better rides of last year. If i wasn't busy this coming weekend i'd so be their.
Remember new tyres and low pressures maybe 8-10 psi.
And its going to be muddy no matter what.

Hey Xen. Go to Mt Smart Marine and they have them for about $20. Then you will always have one as they will be asked for more and more in the future.

+1 with 4stroke.had a absolute blast , did 4 laps , with mixes of A and B routes (found the 2nd deviation of the A route a little "TIGHT" for a quad) but enjoyed all the rest of the terrain.no problems getting a big 500cc 4 stroke quad up those hills, just had to weave my way through the odd person having trouble on a couple of the greasy parts.counting down to next year already!:2thumbsup

Absolutely stoked with the ride today. Found last year a real battle (on rear tire past it's best), this time was just a total blast. Struck a long 'waiting list' to get up first climb in the morning but no traffic jams after that. My 'new' EXC200 really blew me away today with what it could do.

Riding buddy head-butted a fence post and ended up with a 'time out' in the ambulance. His short term memory was out of whack for a while! Keith M (on a farm quad) was a real gent bringing him out and then getting me back up the hill to pick up his bike. Thanks Scott and team, very much appreciated. Best day I've had all year, I really needed that.

Yep great ride also did 4 laps mix of A and B loops. 4 riding buddies and me. Also good to catch up 4stroke glad your fit and well again and to meet JYT.
The young guy had the tape up at 3:30ish to close off but he put it down and let us through! Much to the disgust of one of the guys on a quad on the way through. But we where back and packed way before the last third of the car park was empty!! So 4 of us did a "flat out" last B loop that was a rush. Was getting a bit chewed up by then but we just nailed it. No one in the way great loop, great day, great coarse, much better than those open fast nontechnical ones.
Good job Scott!! Twice a year sounds good to me mate!

i was the guy on the quad ;), and it would have been a bit earlier than 3.30, was mroe like 2.45, i tend to start being quite grumpy around that time,

bit of drama at the end when one of the sweep crew ended up in a creek and needed a helicopter, in one of the last paddocks from home, made for a long day

the Paparimu School are looking at running thier own trail ride in approx april/may for more fundraising, it will not be part of our series or run by us but i will post the date up here,

Was a very cool ride. Got in that traffic jam by that hill climb and had a bit of trouble with the start of it. Good ridin with Courts, made me keep my pace up. Was exhausted by the end of the day and tried the jump at the end not realising it was over a creek, went way too slow and hit the bank. Only some brusing tho and got help to lift the bike out of the creek. Thanks to Scott and the crew for a sweet day

Ha! Did the same thing at that drain, xen. Slowed right down for a better look and only saw the distance to cross at the last moment. Gassed it, but landed on the edge of other side.

Haha Grumpy!!! we made it ok mate, good ride cheers!!

Was that the last two smooth paddocks, first one long enough to pin it through 4 gears. Hold on for the speed wobble as you went through the ruts at the gate, in to top and flat out through second paddock then hard on the brakes for that dusty left hander before the hill up to the pits. That was fun mate!
