African Odyssey the movie
Missed the Premiere? Well its back. The Odyssey is now screening at Academy Cinemas on Lorne St in Auckland City below the library as a general release.
www.africanodyssey.co.nz
Screening Times
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 3.15pm, 7pm and 9pm
Sunday 7pm
Monday, Tuesday 3.15pm and 7pm
Wed 4pm
The Odyssey conducted a NZ wide tour and has received rave reviews from bikers and non bikers alike. This movie is about taking that step to create your own adventure and about sharing that adventure with good friends (even if you have bugger all experience and the only bike you can afford is a 1990 XR250).
The Soundtrack has been commented on at every screening, great kiwi music from Headline acts such as Kora as well as up and comers Thomas Oliver Band and Matt Langley.
In short, if you like kiwi music, motorbikes and/or adventure and kiwis getting out and doing there thing then you should go along and catch this independent kiwi flick.
Cheers

The DVD used to be available on their website. So wander on over. If not, PM me and I can sell a new unused copy. I bought a few to send off to family and friends and have one left.

Well we doubled the audience. We saw it last night and there were four of us! Fantastic movie - we enjoyed it so much we're going to buy the DVD.
It just goes to show you don't need million-dollar kit, support vehicles and half a ton of gear on your bike to go out there and have an adventure. I mean, I loved Ewan & Charlie's trip, but this one was so much more do-able for ordinary people who were just in it for a laugh.
Although I must admit I would have undertaken a little more preventative maintenance before leaving home... clutch cable snapped on first day?! :Pokey:

I bought the DVD via the web site & got it yesterday. Guess what my bike-riding friends are getting for Xmas? That's right - they will get the opportunity to sit beside me on the sofa & watch my DVD! Hooray for them! :woohoo:

I went to see it at the Academy cinemas. I would not recommend that you take non-riders to see this film. My unfortunate friend, despite her best efforts, found it difficult to stay engaged. I can see how it can be challenging for someone who has never ridden, to empathise with the four blokes in the film.
It may have been easier for her if the film talked more about the bikes/preparation/riders, on the assumption that its audience are not necessarily going to be experienced riders, and that they would probably not appreciate the journey nearly so much as a result.

I loved this movie. Bought the DVD last week and watched it the other day. Brilliant. Great music and down to earth adventure. My only disappointment is that its far too short for such a long trip as witnessed by the speed at which the beards grew. Very enjoyable, thanks guys.

Just watched it-only one in the cinema. Great to see anyone can do this stuff on the cheap. Really impressive repair skills by SA farmer and Egyptian backstreet mechanics-they would have been stuffed otherwise. Also agree a bit more info about the prep/planning/problems etc would have helped. Found it somewhat irritating they kept talking shit over the informative interviews with the bikers.

I had just sat through first 3 episodes of Charlie Borman and Ewan McGregor first trip with heaps of pre ride and through to just about Russia had been as bored as. Have yet to see the rest of the Ewan and Charlie trips.
With the african Odyssey saw heaps of scenery, people, history, real bike stuff and their comments. Really enjoyed it.
