i used to ride with this guy and he would stop and turn around at any sign of roadworks. he was afraid to get his VFR800 dirty or stone chipped, (maybe he couldn't ride too good and rode like a squid)
i know most of you are pussies, so do any of you do this?
i blast through normally, on the gixxer is a bit unstable though.

I usually just pop it into neutral and walk it through

I have no problem with my ability to ride through this shit - but if I can go around I prefer to as I like my ride to be kept cosmetically sweet, and hate that sound of tink tink tink as stones bounce off the front of the engine.
Call me pussy if it suits.
I have to say I am surprised at the crap condition of some 1-2 year old low km bikes I see around. Shame on you dirty dirty buggers.

I stop, strip off to a hoodie and helmet, pick my bike up by the burning hot exhaust in my bare hands and carry it barefoot through the sharpest stones I can find screaming "look at me I'm a Mormon".
The rest of you are pussies

Yeah, I spear one of the mufflers (engine still running) with my raging man muscle, scale the bonnet of the car behind, arsehole parted across the windscreen driver's side, bike front wheel in the air, back wheel between my pastey thighs, and proceed through works with diligence and solemness.

I've seen more than one sportsbike radiator with a hole/damage to it after speeding through road works. Pays to slow down... Also pays to get radiator mesh, helps to keep stones off...

i got a radiator guard and second skin on the plastics. I do slow down, but not by much.

If the dudes are working on the road I just ask them to carry me through......so far they have always laughed in my face....bastards!
So I usually end up just pootling through slowly.....

At the very least stop and phone the AA to bring you a trailer.
Oh, hang on. That is a harley going to Sturgis, isn't it?

so do any of you do this?
Certainly not!
Gravel roads don't phase me; when we went on our GreatOopNorfRidingHoliday, we must've done about 50 or 60 km on gravel roads - even burned off a dirt bike on one. Found out the trick was to keep the speed up.
Dirt? Paint chips?!??
My paint's fookt anyway, with the tank massively scratched from using a tank bag on the aforementioned gravel roads. :buggerd:
Oh - and a couple of low-speed drops.

I have done three figure speeds (in the old language) on roadworks more than once. Not intentionally you understand, those "Southern men" are tough, they don't bother themselves with roadworks signs.
One of their more spectacular efforts (near Lumsden) cost me a headlamp glass on my BMW. And that ain't hay

Yeh Right! Depends on the thickness of the gravel and ur bike. I was fine until detoured around Arohena on a twisty country backroad gazetted 30kph. Wanker in a subaru did a possum bourne up the hillat me, I had to get out of his way....Ducatis DO NOT steer in deep gravel!!!! Few sports bikes do!!!!
All was fine till had to get off the smooth road surface, into the cambered deep gravel on the side...couldnt turn it,lost the front, bike dropped over a 4m bank. Busted shoulder. written off bike!!!!! Cost all up???? Losing $800 a week with ACC shortfall, losing $1600 on helmet/gear- shortfall on insurance payout. Losing $1000 on bike excess. Will cost me $3000-$5000 to replace bike!!!!Dont laugh at others till you know how there bike handles it. Shit does happen!!!!!

I normally set up camp on the side of the road until they've finished and swept any lose chip off the road then I carry on slowly.

road works don't worry me,
but i don't like the stones that stick to the front tyre and gouge their way round the front guard.
