I want one. It's up on my "Will buy" list. (After reading a Boat Trader Magazine + Seeing holidayers playing around the Coopers Beach).

Question: Does this require any license and etc? Whos got one?

This baby looks like a ZX14 on water

No licence required, other than that i know nothing about them other than my X brother in law imports them from the states and called in home the other day with the biggest one ive ever seen in my life.

At least do a "day skippers" course.
The number of knob jockey's that blatantly break the "5knot's within 100mtrs of shore" rule is a disgrace.
People and kiddies swim with these losers very close by.
I might cop a slagging for this, but NZ should follow Aus boat rego/licensing system.

Easier to stand under the shower and tear up hundred dollar notes. Or if waters not your thing you could buy a Sporty and lose it that way.

They're pretty similar to riding a quad bike and an absolute ball of fun. I used to want one until I discovered road bikes :D

they are cool fun to play around on and pretty easy to drive/ride/whatever....

don,t however have two jetskis collide at high speed because it is not so much fun that way.................and it breaks them

Cool in the short term but lose the appeal pretty quick.

For water thrills ditch the bang-juice and strap a 13m kite and board to ya.

We had a jet boat for skiing a couple of summers back. It cost similar to a jet ski and we could do a hell of a lot more with it than if we'd had a jet ski. I'd buy another jet boat in a heartbeat. To me a jet ski would get boring very quickly.

Our jet boat was similar to this...

Some people love them. Dean P is living on Waiheke and reckons they are mint.

I divide how many days in the year you can actually use it by the cost.

We are going to do some more product reviews in the mag - I'll have a fang and see if I change opinions.

A well maintained Sportster holds reasonable resale price.

A well maintained Sportster holds reasonable resale price. I see Harley is thinking recession by offering a minimum trade in price for sporty buyers in the states, that aside ive a good mate with an immaculate sporty still in his garage after attempting to use it as a trade in on a new FWT%X whatever he bought last year, they would have been better to be honest and tell im they didnt want a trade rather than offer him what they did,as i said the thing is mint.http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/

I desire them, however as above for the price of a decent jetski you can by a late model small boat and take the family out (then again this may be the appeal of the wet bike).

Interesting link regarding the Sportster. Maybe I'm just a woos-arse but I've always liked the Sportster, apart from the lack of power - hopefully HD will use the XR1200 motor in a 'standard' sporty as well as the XR does not work graphically for me.

Unless ya buying it out of the box, forget it. In my experience most are abused by inexprienced riders and they can be a royal pain the butt cost wise in maintenace and repairs unless covered by warranty. dont be seduced by their slick looks They only have a short term appeal. IMO

Exactly right.

Ive worked on a good few of them at this stage and no matter what make they are they will break down very easy and they aint cheap to fix either. If you can afford a brand new one that comes with a warranty then go for it and sell it as soon as the warranty is up.
For example of regular problems all caused by taking in water:
Starter motor and related electrics(last starter I changed took 5 hrs to complete the job)
Engine submerged, this can cause total engine destruction depending on rpm eg. bent con rods cracked heads, crankcase and shattered pistons.

And now talking from a users point of view
They are fun when used on rough water so you can jump and mess about but if been used on a calm lake they lose their appeal after a few hours because there is only so many times turning at full speed is fun.

If I had the money to buy one Id look out for a jetboat instead because its all the fun of a jetski with the handling but can also double as a normal speedboat to bring out people on when going flat out loses its fun.

Another thing with them is they are very thirsty fuel wise and cost alot to be out on one for a day.
900cc jetski will use about the same amount as a 5.7 ski boat at cruising speed

Do they have brakes?

racerhead

Do they have brakes?

Nope some models have a neutral but 90% of them once the are running they are constantly going forwards. Instead of brakes they can turn on a dime if your brave enough to throw it into a turn at whatever speed your doing

Yes. Yes they do...

Do they have brakes?

No, and they will only turn if power is ON. Many a noob has hurt someone on these by going towards someone, cutting the throttle and trying to turn.

KABOOOOOEY!

Go kite surfing! Kiteboards hold the world un-powered water speed record of 52knots (ish).
