Hi guys and girls. Dont know if this is the right thread but I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone out there that has called or pm me to see how I was after hitting a truck in Riddell Road on the 30th Dec.
A great big thank you to Team SMC (Squiggles, Hungus Maximist, Pirate Jaffa and the lady with them who is a KBer but forgot her name) Who came and brought my bike home for me.
Ok here is what happened....... Going home along Riddell road fantastic afternoon riding towards GI went around a bend and there was a truck pulling out from a driveway.
cant quite rember much but as far as what I have been told I hit the front right side of truck...... then the curb along the foot path and was stoped by a nice tree. Was KOed so woke up in the ambulance.
Lol I must have been in a daze as I gave my home number to a lady who rang gabby.
Gabby arrived to find two ladies in bikinis checking my signs of life lol.
She told them to remove their hands lol. I asked her later if she got their numbers or photos as I cant remember a dam thing.
the nice lady that rang heard the bang from down at the park ran up called police and ambulance and Gabby and stayed by my side till the ambulance arrived.
had xrays of neck, sholder, side and knee. not bad only 7 stiches in left knee and brusing too shoulder arm and leg.
Great to see my gear did the job that was needed. Shame they cut my gear off though lol....... Had to go home with a sheet wraped around me.
Kiwi bike insurance has been great. No replies from swann yet but filled out the claims form tonight and sending it to Dave at kiwi bike and to Swann.
Hopefully get some results in the near future.
Bike at home now looking a little sad. But I just cant believe how well I came out of it. After seeing the marks my helmet made along the road- curb-footpath to the tree. HLD Helmets are not to bad at all. good crack on the inside to show it worked.
AGAIN THANK YOU ALL.
Bruce

We'll take you up on your offer of baked goods at some point - but the best reward was seeing that you're okay and still walking around (fit to ride even - you should teach other people how they should crash!).

Dave and Donna at Kiwibike have always seemed like good people to me, and they were prompt and professional with my claim - hopefully you will receive the same service.

Look forward to seeing you on a new set of wheels soon. :niceone:

Good to hear you're ok... couldn't help notice the irony in your post though. If this happened to me a certain three events would have happened the other way around...

 Just got a reply from the police officer at the sceen this morning......
Looks like I am getting the blame.
After consulting with my supervisor it appears that fault is to be attributed to you for not allowing enough distance infront and either side of you to aviod the truck. Having said that, I my partner and I as attending officers are not inclined to fine you for the accident as there were contributing factors in terms of road curvature, that significantly reduced your visibility.
and the fact that there are 4 waste taker bins on that courner, The fact that the guy was pulling out on to the road?????
I tried to avoid hitting him. I ended up hitting the front right side of his truck. The dammage was to my front and left side of my bike.
So can anyone give me ideas why it was my fault?
Any one got any ideas what I can do?
Thanks.
Yes I am at work and fuming.....

So, not being able to see anyone approaching, the truck pulled out, and then you came around the bend and weren't able to swerve or brake to avoid him?

Unfortunately, I'd say the cop's right; the truck wasn't executing an illegal maneuver, and the road code does say that you should be able to stop within the space of the visible road ahead of you.

As the cop says, the main issue was that there was a blind bend in the road. Decent of him not to ticket you.

But blind bends and unexpected things waiting around them are what kill plenty of motorcyclists. Be thankful you're in one piece - the last KBer I know who had a similar bin (Biggles08) nearly died, and is extremely lucky to be back in good health now. Call it a learning experience hey?

And get yourself along to some trackdays, so that the next time you fail to anticipate the unexpected, you have a bigger envelope of bike-control skills available to help with avoiding it.

Nah, you'll just have to shell out your insurance excess at some point; Kiwibike will let you know when, and whom to pay it to.

You need worry about nothing else, sorting all the shit out is what insurance is for.

man this sucks.

Pfft, it's not so bad. You broke no bones eh? Chin up! It's just a bike, you were fully insured, and bins, although undesirable, can be valuable learning experiences.

The real question now is, are you gonna fix up the Nine, or upgrade?

Can you draw a diagram of the accident - also, I'd be taking photo's from truck height to see what distance you can look through the bend...

You are right mate.... That up to Swann insurance on what I get to do with the bike. Steve from SMC had a look siad it might be a write off. Just have to wait and wait and wait.
Dave said might be at least Feb before anything gets sorted just becouse of this time of year.
He has been great so far.
Gett stitches out in another 5 days and have another pee test to see if i still am pissing blood.
Main thing is I am alive looks like Rainbows end next week:Punk:

So will the insurance firm still pay out for my bike or am I in the crap. Gabby is starting to worry.

Have a good read of your policy Bruce, I would expect they will pay, because, it was an accident right? Insurance company's have a way of getting out of paying at times but, fingers crossed they will come to the party for ya.

At the end of the day, the truck was going to have to pull out at some point or another - he couldn't wait there forever staring at a empty road wondering if there was a unseen oncoming car around the bend. To the best of his knowledge, the road was clear. However, as JRandom said, all vehicles are expected to be able to stop within the distance of road they can see.

If he had pulled out of the driveway once you were already in sight coming around the corner, then he would be at fault, but as I understand it he was already halfway across the road?

However, you will be covered by insurance, never fear. The only downsides are that you will have to pay the excess and will lose any no-claims bonus you might have, and the next insurance policy you take out will probably have a higher premium as a result.

(Any thoughts on what the next bike will be yet? :))

I have allways said I dont blame the truck driver..... Its just a bit of a shock going around a fantastic left corner and there is a truck pulling out:lol:
I must have done wonders to flip it back to the right to try and get around it.
I just wish I could remember both the final moments and the girls in the bikinis:lol:
I have been told the lovley lady that was first on site and rang the ambulance, police and gabby use to be a weather girl on TV.
