I applaud their efforts if for nothing else it just shows how silly the whole bail out thing is, if these big car companies actually produced what the consumer wanted the perhaps they would not be in the shit.

The biggest selling motor car in the US for umpteen years before the crash of 08 was the Ford F250 double cab pickup. So it could be argued that in fact the US automakers WERE making what their customers wanted. (Like Harley Davidson do). And the Japanese manufacturers ALL produce that sort of vehicle (big Nissans and Toyotas): as do the Chermans: Audi Q7, Volkswobble toerag, BMW etc.

The issue is in fact that the customers now have NO MONEY because they were gambling on house price inflation which has now stopped. In fact it has reversed. So people who used their houses as ATM machines are now truly badly and deeply in the shit.

Oh, and surprise surprise it translates eXactly to the NZ situation, except our banks might be a bit sounder.
