I know its dodgy, but it is also cheap, so may still be worth it if it checks out

yea I would get someone close with a mechanical mind to check it out, seems to look in good condition - I was going to get it but was scared.

hmm you should try get his number and talk to him more about it like was it ever registered while he had it, and if he had proof of the registration etc.. and maybe he might be keen to get rid of it a little cheaper since the auction failed, thats the best way I see it is to get his number, and ask him abit and yea.

Selling 4 bikes and a house? Looks like he buys and sells easy to do up write offs - but they are written off for a reason....I'd be looking a bit deeper at frames and forks etc.
