Hey guys, need to get some risers welded to a top clamp (both alloy) anybody on here have a tig at thier work, or know of a shop that will do a decent job, i have been to supposedly reputable shops before and thier welds didnt even penetrate the metal...

around penrose, mt wellington, ellerslie etc would be best.

And having my bars break off mid corner is not in the game plan.

Cheers: Skid.

I would be more inclined to go the "drill and tap" route to be honest.

Aluminium is a shit to weld at the best of times, and you need someone who knows what they are doing. When you factor in the age of the two components, and the fact that they are castings, and the fact that they will more than likely have different metallurgical make up, drilling and tapping is the way in this case.

Risers are usually cast into the riser, or fixed to it with bolts, etc, etc.

Good luck, homie.

Machine Part Welding, Gt Sth Rd Penrose behind Hyster forklift showroom.
Ask for Terry , if it can be done & it is the right thing to do he will see you right, NOT CHEAP.

Will look into it...

it's the price i put on my life i suppose, if something goes wrong i'm in the shit.

I would bolt it if i could but because of the way it is cast underneath its safer to weld it.
