Just for the record, I've done almost 1,000km in the Waikato this week.
No close calls, no bad drivers, no incidents, no police issues, people waved and the bikes all went great.
And I had a really nice time.
Sorry.

I did almost 1,000km in almost the Waikato this week too - I didn't see you,and wouldn't of waved if I did.In fact I saw hardly any bikes. All the roads were great (I don't mind melted tar) and all the drivers were polite (and I was able to miss all those that weren't.
My first week in 12 years when somebody else paid me to do nothing.

I've been covering the Bel Ray.
Was out at Te Akau way today, Kimmys on Thursday.
Been returning via 22 - or further west.
There was only 1 corner with no line through the tar.
today it was close to optimum conditions

Toko Oko Rd - (or is it Tiko?) - Rangirirri out to 22 - is a Motu special at the moment - just been dressed and graded and has has an inch of ball bearings on top.
I even had the Buell slightly crossed up on exits.

The West Waikato is quite unique. I think the bike roads there genererererrally have more corners per Km than any other part of NZ.
Audacious claim?

Audacious claim? Have spent some time riding in the other isle but never there.Fox to Hokitika would take some beating though.

The parameter would be 'as a region' rather than 'a road'.
Buller, Takaka Hill eg are similar, but there are more 'great' roads there than other regions - maybe.

Have you tried the "Marble Mountain" (Motueka to Takaka ??) Just one "hill", but takes just as long...

Tikotiko - it changes Counties half way along, which is pretty obvious as it changes to seal at the boundary. In my week on these roads the hardest road was the little bit of gravel left on Churchill Rd (from Rangiriri to SH22) - it was thick with fine and course gravel, and more work than it looked. It was fairly easy to take lines to miss the tar - but on Rotowaro Rd it was wet from shoulder to shoulder....I took to the grass on that one.
On my ride to Awakino and back I counted 4,000 corners - there are definitely more corners west of SH1 in the Waikato than anywhere else.

Some secrets should remain just that.<_<
Otherwise all you'll hear will be gibbering jaffa's, and swirling latte spoons.

Yep, yesterday was the optimum bike day... but lines through the tar? There was no melted tar anywhere on the Aucks - Coro Loop. The overcast skies all day had made it a stunner of a day to clock up the k's.
What I couldn't figure out was the lack of traffic especially bikes. Maybe it was the threat of rain at the end of the day that kept them home. I did get the torrential downpour 10 minutes from home.

I was thinking that at the time,it is how SH22,the Coro loop and Kaiaua loop used to be.But then I had a look at the perfect roads - no,no sprotsbike rider would dare ride these roads....there was too much to complain about.I guess they might ride them just to start a thread about the shocking state of West Waikato roads, and that might keep other riders away.

How many laps of the Foodtown carpark is 1000km? Obviously you did not venture on the road where chaos is waiting around every corner, Mr. Plod is waiting for motorcyclists 'cos they're lunatics and the tar snakes are always hungry. Good on you anyway:beer:

Audacious... or something.
Perhaps you could enter the upcoming Chateau to Plateau - in the interests of science of course.
There should even be the makings of a Kiwi Rider article should you actually need to justify it. Then you could claim it all on expenses. :devil2:

I haven't got a bike for it. Talk of a New Varadero for testing but unconfirmed.
Too heavy anyway?

I did plenty of miles too......puke to new plymouth and over to the coromandel and back over two days. used the windiest back roads i could find as well.........
never been to new plymouth before so loved the gorge and the mountain thing. great roads and hardly any traffic........and heres the big surprise........car drivers waving me past and being courteous and stuff.....amazing
and like dave........no problems
no close calls
no road rage
no cops
no hassle
biggest problem i had was hitting a possum leaned over round a corner causing a sideways skip.........all good.
Good news is still good news eh?

I think you got it so good cos they were all down in the South Island. 3500km over the last couple of weeks and I've had a few close calls.
Lets see...there were campervans, cow s**t, suicidal sparrows, potholes, melting roads (the bike fell over from its side stand when the stand went through the seal!), wind, a massive eel (when i was swimming in the river), Peter Brocks biggest fan in his Commodore, and a car overtaking a car towing a boat just before a blind corner.
Despite all that though one hell of a good ride that left a grin across my entire face and roads, scenery and company that more than made up for the close calls.

Dude - that should be the planting of gixers.
I must say, even though I haven't ventured far afield* (or even in any fields) lately, I haven't had any problems for a goodly while either.
* I meant "on my bike". Although Mrka was non-troublesome in any case.

Hmmmm. There is plenty of evidence around here of crashing gixers, but only one of planting a gixer (iirc)...
Perhaps the rider was hoping to return and harvest some mini-moto or pit bikes?

The parameter would be 'as a region' rather than 'a road'.
Buller, Takaka Hill eg are similar, but there are more 'great' roads there than other regions - maybe. Was thinking the same thing... so I offer Marlborough as a region. Stretch that from Nelson to Port Underwood, the ratio of tight windy stuff to straight is pretty high.
There lots of good roads no matter were you are in NZ, that's what makes it so good. Except for the Canty plains. I say we sell it to the Russians, Christchurch would make a good 4th island - but then all those Antarctic vessels would have to put in at Dunners instead. Can't see a downside??
