View Full Version : The Great KB Spend-a-thon 2009
Tank
14th January 2009, 14:24
This is inspired by the thread started by "Winter" back in 2007. (In fact its a cut / paste).
I thought it worth re-doing. Perhaps if the $$$ value is big enough some suppliers who dont activly support KB may start doing so. Feel free to backdate to Jan 1 2009.
The Great KB Spend-A-Thon 2009
The idea of this thread is to gauge how much the KB community is worth to the New Zealand motorcycle industry.
So, everytime you purchase some kit, pay for services from a shop (excluding fuel) come and post the amount here.
Let us know what it was for, if you like, and the total.
I'll try keep track of it all and provide totals every month, and at the end of the quarter we can see the big dollar!
If you are spending money Internationally (ebay, crusercustomizing etc) please mention it in your post - I will split out the spend. It will be interesting to see just how much $$$ is going offshore.
EDIT: Winters thread came up with a total of $158,091.18 for the Month of Aug 2007. It will be interested to see how it being biking season makes a difference.

I cant see why we shouldn't include it.
Its an indication of what KB'ers spend on bike gear.
As an idea - if you make a purchase internationally please mention it in your post - I will split out the spend with the totals.
I will edit the original post to reflect this.

Apart from buying new motorcycles and holiday accommodation and related costs, I estimate that my motorcycling this year (at $1.40 a litre for fuel) will cost me at least $11,000. The other half of our household will be making a similar investment.

It's not about my suffering, it's about the value of the thread. It's largely pointless unless somebody starts a spreadsheet that totals people's individual spending throughout the year and also charts total spending by day, week and month. Otherwise who cares who bought a set of tyres and a DIY shaft greasing kit.

I was joking about the suffering bit.
I was offering to break it down for monthly spend over a 1/4. I figured that it would give a fair indication across abroad range of riders of how much the KB community spends.
Its useful info if someone looked at it and says - thats a reasonable spend - lets see what we can do to get some of those customers.
More $$ spend on KB advertising? Discounts for KB members? Hell - I dunno - just seemed a good idea at the time and I was willing to put the effort in.

Is anybody collecting the info into Excel? This is only the Direct Impact of our purchases...
I can do an Economic Impact Assessments using Input-Output modelling (google it, too difficult to explain here!..)
I'll run the numbers through our models and calculate the direct, indirect, induced impacts of our spending. We can also calculate the number of jobs supported by our spending.
Note i'll only do it if the weather is crap & I can't go out...

$250 service ER6-F and fit aftermarket bars.
$780 service GSXR750, with 2 new tyres, WOF and general inspection.
$160 on Bike to Bike comms.

While im on the subject...all of the above (except the camera) was with MT Eden Motorcycles...
On their website they currently have vouchers for $25 off a Wof, the same off new tyres and the same off a service...So I subsequently had all three done thinking I'd get a reasonable (around 10% as it worked out) discount thanks to these vouchers...but NO!...you can only use one at a time...
Doesn't say that on the vouchers...
But besides that...wouldn't it be good customer service to allow all three given this was the second service I'd had in two weeks and over a $1000 spent?...Am I being unreasonable?

On their website they currently have vouchers for $25 off a Wof, the same off new tyres and the same off a service...So I subsequently had all three done thinking I'd get a reasonable (around 10% as it worked out) discount thanks to these vouchers...but NO!...you can only use one at a time...
Doesn't say that on the vouchers...
But besides that...wouldn't it be good customer service to allow all three given this was the second service I'd had in two weeks and over a $1000 spent?...Am I being unreasonable?
Sounds very reasonable to me. I assume you mentioned it to them at the time? They should at least have honoured them for you then gone quick-smart and changed the wording on the vouchers if they didn't want to do it for everyone.
Send them an email or a letter. That will reinforce what (presumably) you told them in person. If I were them I would send you a wee thankyou for taking the time to write and express your concerns.

In All fairness to them...I sent an email through and within fifteen minutes they called me and I had the $50 in my bank account the next day...
Im not the type to jump up and down instore...they just would never have gotten another cent off me...but they set it straight so good on them.
