250cc LEARNER Ride to Kai Iwi Lakes for a Swim (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=massey+north&daddr=wellsford+to:dargaville+to:kai+iwi+lakes&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=-41.244772,172.617188&sspn=46.149469,79.013672&ie=UTF8&z=9) - SUNDAY 25th JANUARY

Who: Anyone who is a learner or would like a slow cruise with the learners/250cc.

Time: meet at shell westgate (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=88469&d=1204718424) at 9:00 am , and depart 9:30 am

Distance: around 200km one way with plenty of stops for rest/toilet/drink/fuel

Pace: SLOW and LEGAL - Good for learners - MAXIMUM 100km/h

Roads: Variety of road conditions good for getting some confidence on the open road.

Swimming not compulsory.

What you need to bring:

Swimware - its not a nudist beach
Sun Screan - those of us that have a tendancy for turning into tomatoes under the sun.
Petrol money - kinda obvious but we have had cases where people show up thinking that someone else will buy petrol for them - not the case.
Bike in good working order.
Motorcycle protection gear - if you show up in shorts and a T-shirt without armoured gear , you will be sent home.

Registration here - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1861&day=2009-1-25

P.S. Ride will be postponed if stormy weather is expected. Updates will be made in this first post and in the discussion thread day prior to the ride if something changes.

It varies depending on where you work. You could ask them, but then it will look suspicious if you don't like the answer & then 'suddenly' fall sick on Sunday.

Have you ever ridden down to the bottom of the Pouto peninsula? Great road, and it turns to gravel some ways before the end, if I recall correctly.

Yous fullas do all realise that they've cut down all the pines surrounding the main lake over the last couple of years, aye?

:weep:

Yup. It sucks. Really spoils the look of the place, IMHO. Last summer the area around the lake that used to be a border of pines in between the water and the farmland was all just chewed-up tracks, bare hillsides and logging detritus.

(I notice that Google Earth still shows the trees - satellite photos cover that area, the high-res aerial photography starts just to the north of the lakes.)

i do have full insurance.. and they are paying out and not being a bitch, but that money will be purchasing me a shiny new bike, and therefore won't have money to then go and buy back my wreck of a bike to use as a track bike!

Well im now heading back to the naki tomorrow... woohoo 4 day weekend! so won't be coming for a swim in the car. have fun!
however, maybe i have hit my head... buying a new phone and paying for stuff for the car, before i pay out on a new bike... whats wrong with me?! haha, its all good, ill be back on a bike as soon as i can (but have to wait to find a bike that deserves the joy of riding! haha)

"suffering" is another way of putting it - a bit harsh on the 'ol GN though :innocent:

Yea I agree, providing the roads are not too steep to make the GN go on 1st gear (which would be painful for bike and rider), my concern more was the 10L tank - hm although thinking about it, 200Km's is probably its capacity on a full tank so should be do-able!

No other GN's?

Badger8
22nd January 2009, 20:41
My GN did flamin miles on a tank. If i was crusin at 80-85, it would get nearly 30 k/L. Dont think i ever got it under 24 k/L (i think? while ago now...), even thrashin it round town.

Normal gas stops are no more than 150k apart on these rides, so wont be a problem mate. TEC will chill behind you and let you do your own comfortable pace, that's the idea of the noobie / learner rides

No other GN's?

hey ive got a gn250 and on a full tank you can get bout 250kms so you should be sweet.i dont think i can make it though but if i do ill hang out with you at the tail cause i could keep up with your pace.tec are great theyll always stay behind you no matter what thats what i learnt throw away all the anxietys i know what gn250 are capable of on group rides they can do 100kph on a flat reasonably i dont have rego but ill get it sorted and ill go if you go as ive always been the only gn250 on rides.

Not aware? It was hardly subtle - I had the cellphone in one hand and a bright torch in the other, if the torch wasn't shining on you there was no useful video captured, being night time and all. It is not like I was filming with a long zoom from somewhere hidden either - it was wide angle from the cellphone from the fence beside the pool. Complete low res crap TBH. If you are worried I can show you the recording on my phone and I am happy to delete it if you think there is anything embarrassing to you in it.

Anyway:
I might bring my good camera along on this ride, even though the camera, lenses, etc do tend to completely fill the top box. No video though, unless I use the cell phone.

Interestingly enough I wasn't filming as you got out of the pool, like I said - I will happily let you have a look so you can see how harmless it is. I hardly ever bother with the video function on the cellphone because you really don't get a great result, I was just having a play with it to see how it would come out.

Its more being told I was filmed as I got out the pool that concerns me, and no actually I didn't know about it at the time, since I can't see fuck all without lenses

Interestingly enough I wasn't filming as you got out of the pool, like I said - I will happily let you have a look so you can see how harmless it is. I hardly ever bother with the video function on the cellphone because you really don't get a great result, I was just having a play with it to see how it would come out.

Meh, whatever, I'm not stressing over it.

Just a thought though, you might want to be a bit more careful about shit like that next time, a couple of people were less than impressed with that...

Omg whateva don't flatter yourself sweetheart ....

R6_kid
24th January 2009, 21:09

Don't think you could have tested it at another time when there weren't girls in bikinis? Perhaps before hand, and then it wouldnt have seemed so seedy that the camera came out when it did.
No offense dude, but try going down to a busy beach and doing it, i'm sure you'll make lots of friends.

Good thing im comfortable with belly hanging out, hopefully thats not part of the footage that you're watching over and over!

It's leaking from one of the petrol tank mounts so I'm going to seal it all up today, it must have been damaged in the bin.

Mean ride Toto, hot spots in the water were mean.... Im mega brown now ! Mean... Our group got baited HARD by 2 mufti cops, one of which we picked, the other who was behind us we didn't. Well I did, hence I got away... Jen any news?

Yea, sadly I witnessed the outcome... 2 bikes on the side of the motorway, probably about 400m apart, each with a mufti behind them :Police:

Aside from that.... awsome ride today guys! Great group to ride with! Shame I fell off the pace at the end, but the days riding 2 up had taken it's toll and the body was saying NO! :blank:

My poor pillion is absolutely stuffed! But she's a trooper, and loved every minute of! :2thumbsup (although requested future rides I bring her on be a tad shorter )

Thanks for a top day everyone.

Glad we had such a great day for a ride. Quite happy with the unexpectidly light traffic away from sh1 and general road condition.

Nice cruisy ride - no idiotic behaviour, no bins.

Water was absolutely brilliant - like a giant swimming pool - next time I'll bring a ball for the kids that didnt go in ze water.

Really happy to meet the people behind the keyboard.

Highlights:

Walking on the beach in full biker gear with helmets and everything and all people looking at us - lol

Badger and Fizbin definately take the prize for loudest and funniest laughs.

Rie taking some air time on the trampoline. - wow :niceone:

Gremlin with his stories and ever entertaining gravel eating, petrol station sliding katoom. He is also a cage scaring biker GIANT...man I need to take apic of this next time...

EatOrBeEaten - yr accent and stories are fabulous :killingme

Thank for Fizzy for the BBQ abd hospitality. Except he forgot to tell us that his house and street and driveway aint bike friendly with those crazy slopes

Lowlights:

sorry some of you delt with the smurfs - it wasnt a guy in a unmarked Hyunday by any chanse, was it? But at least you didn't have to deal with ambos which would have been worse imo.

didnt get to see the new tunnel, but from what I hear it was not worth going trough the SH1 traffic just to see a tiney tunnel - they should have made it longerrrrrrrr.

So awesome stuff and thank for all of you who joined - really made my day to ride with all of you.

Well i only just got home and showered now, damn that feels better! Thanks for an awesome ride Toto, a nice chilled out pace was just what i needed for my aching body
Was great to meet a few new people, and see many old faces out and about. Best day and night i've had in far too long.

Few highlights:
waking up on time and realizing i was actually gonna be up to a ride! :woohoo:

talking absolute rot over lunch in dargs.

Trudging down the beach in full bike gear, hearing "You're a bit overdressed" like 7 times in a row... "ONE MORE TIME!!! I DARE YA!!!"

Swimming / wallowing. Water was a tad warm for cooling off, but was still bloody good fun wallowing round and talkin rot.

Poor Reido shivering away while the rest of us were nice and toasty.

Fizzy and m'self finally finding a match for our 'wit', and having a bloody good laugh all day. Damn those cool beverages went down well :apint:

EatOrBeEaten, i just love  that scottish brough, and your bloody fantastic sense of humour "Nah, he's a gentleman... He'd do it on my face!" Quote of the year!
Hope the pace down the moron-way was alright, forgot when we set out you're flyin the L-plate. Cant believe you've only been on the bike a week and a half, you're doing bloody great

Fizzy again for the gracious hospitality as always, and braving the dodgiest sounding pub in west auckland to get us some beers. Well worth the effort mate :niceone:

And i take the idiot of the night award... After getting all of 5 minutes sleep all night, fizzy wanders out...
"You do realize that's a lazy boy right?"
"Huh?"
*Opens legs out, chair instantly becomes super comfy and i'm in heaven*
"OH!!! YOU TWAT!!!"

Catch you all around real soon i hope! :sunny:

I went as far as Wellsford, had to get home to get some shit done (shouldn't have bothered).

The highlight for me was hanging with Rie (who's an awesome rider), she's been hanging with GIJoe and GSXRTrace - I recognise the lines.

Second best highlight was the tunnel, in first gear at 14,000 RPM... And then going past the cagers, all 8-10 k's worth. That's right suckers, I was laughing at y'all!

The lake was so warm, I could tell by standing knee deep in the lake:)

Thanks to every one who's combined effort made for a fabulous day :niceone:

And to DH for the one mono I saw

Ten points to Fizzbin for firing up his Barby....... ooops sorry Fizzy, wasn't ment to let that out....... He quickly deflated her and lit the Bar-B-Que while we took over his deck :apint:

All over it was a great day and a nice evening to end it off.

My PC won't let me put up any pics, it is not in the mood for uploading :argh:
I will try again later

The highlight for me was hanging with Rie (who's an awesome rider), she's been hanging with GIJoe and GSXRTrace - I recognise the lines.

WTF, are you Yoda or something?

Thanks TOTO one again a well organized and fun ride.

Highlights for me.... the ride!
was good to catch up with everyone i hadn't seen for a while and the curse was just what i needed to unwind before i have to start the new job on Tuesday.
Roz you are truly one dodgy person! you will definitely fit in well in this neck of the woods.
The After BBQ was good however getting to bed at i think 3am i have discovered is way to late for me these days.... god i am old!.
i have about 80 odd photos from the trip and will try to post some of those up in the next day or so.

Thanks all for the good time and laugh will have to do this again soon.
