Looking at your spelling and grammar, I thought you would be the last to worry about a harmless slang expression...:p
But back to the real problem, have you tried Viagra...?

Ok - I'll take up your challenge.
You boldly state that a cager is a motorist...perhaps, but a motorist IS NOT a cager.
Cager describes an attitude in a 4 wheeled conveyance. An attitude that most 2 wheeled conveyancees are all too familiar with. Cagers are that breed of driver that is referred to in the advice 'They are out to kill you'.
Do not try and tell us that there is no such thing as a cager. There are littlies here that might believe you, and that belief may prove injurious to their health.

Do not, have not and will not use that term.
Nothing to do with the source or etymology.
I just think it's stupid.

It's mentioned in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cager) so it must be a real word.

I agree with you. I drive a car.
It's as wanky as calling a camshaft a "bumpstick" as some "petrol heads" do...or did...

I think the use of the word does nothing other than reinforce an 'us versus them' mentality which will only do us harm in the long run.

So? I have a car. and a van. Mostly I ride my bike. And I'm a biker. Sometimes I have to take the car or van. Then I'm stuck in a cage. Literally. I'm a cager.
Virago
18th January 2009, 13:59
The nature of my business means I spend five times as much time in the car than on the bike. Most of the time I wish I was on the bike, instead of being stuck in a steel box - or "cage".
It's a harmless slang term, I reckon those who object to it are being a bit precious.

You can't lump Katman into that category. He'd actually have to get off KB for more than 5 minutes to stop his fuckin moaning & whinging to enable him to ride his bike, thus allowing him to display some irresponsible behaviour. So, irresponsible he is not.....

So what is giving you the trouble here? The expression or it's source?
I only ask because New Zealand has adopted an awful lot of popular American culture. Here are some examples:
Decimalisation: We managed it without losing the Pound why did NZ go all Yankee with the Dollar?
Chips - if thay are thin cut and not hot are called crisps (they are crispy see?)
Vitamin is pronounced Vit-ah-min not Vite-ah-min.
There are other examples but I want to go and answer another thread now - see ya.

He is 100% an irresponsible fuckwit thread hijacker with blood on his hands from turning too many young bikers away from the safety and courtesy message by abusing them and telling them instead of encouraging them and informing them.
I suspect he's a hoon coz he has far too many cc to be sensible and he must have an agenda which involves turning people away from safety since no-one can be so retarded at to seriously think abusing people will persuade them in any way.
I conclude by saying he must be some sort of boy racer fuckwit trying to increase bloodshed on our roads. Logic precludes any other possible conclusion.

There are other examples...
Are you saying we should adopt the British culture, or European or worse the Aussie (even the British culture has some Americana and Vise versa)
NZ being such a young culture we are still evolving as a culture and with globalisation certian words and phrases will pass from one culture to another that's how a language grows...
The English language we use today is such a bastardised language of many many languages from Old English, Greek, French, Latin and even Chiness and more modern from the North Amercia...
At the end of the day nobody cares... I certainly don't... Its no worse than using the term J.A.F.A, S.O.A.P

Cager: Prefered method of getting around in a vehicle and/or most often used vehicle is a car. Possibly a car enthusiast, and possibly enjoys sitting in a metal framed moving boom box. Oblivious to anything on the road other than cars, attention span often focused on their mobile phone.
RUB: Rich urban biker. See your local harley dealership for some examples
Motorcyclist: Person who owns a bike - his or her weekend toy. A material object for a putter around, kinda like a mistress. Quite possibly a RUB.
Biker: Prefered method of getting around in a vehicle and/or most often used vehicle is a motorcycle. Quite possibly experiences a ZEN feeling when riding. Definiately feels free when riding. Thinks the world would be a nicer place if cagers spent some time on bikes, or put their mobile phones down.

I left out a few other American biker slang words, and im sure there are many many more then this.
Mother/Mama/Tank Slapper/Sweet Butt: A hang around female, there to "help" out the group/club in anyway she can. The "club motorcycle". May be taken on as an Ol Lady.
Ol Lady: A bikers gf, wife, mistress.
Bagger: A bike with saddlebags, usually hard shell panniers.
Chapel: A bike club/groups hang out/club house
Garbage Heap: A stock Harley. This is in reference to older school custom harleys built to have everything stripped off the harley not needed.
Colors: Your club or groups emblem
Cuts: You vest. Originates back in the day when riding a bike wasn't about having money to buy a bike and all the gear to go with it. Call cuts because they were shirts (often denim) with the sleeves cut off.
Dresser: A Harley with panniers and screen still attached
Scooter Trash: A biker

Yup, that is me: a BIKER. That expresses it very well.
Honestly, I learned the expression "cage" here on kb. As a former zookeeper, it made me laugh the first time I read it. It was so apt! I've never heard it spoken, and certainly never knew it was an American biker word. Weird.
