Was at work today, had the bike parked outside as usual .

Anyway the wind was blowing kind of hard but nothing unusual, then all of a sudden I hear this "THUD" , I did`nt have to turn around to know what it was ,that`s right my bike .

I run over to the bike like a mother hearing her child cry and pick the bike up.
Bugger all damage a couple of scrapes 1 on the lower fairing/ mirror and exhaust.

Now I was wondering has this happened to anyone else , my bike weighs about 250kg , and it was on concrete and not soft grass.

I've had it happen before, mind you, it was on soft grass with a great sea gust. Thank god whenever it falls onto the left hand side all that happens is the mirror folds up, happened three times, only a small scratch on the mirror... and the fun of starting a flooded engine.

Piss luck for you though, hope it gets better soon! :crybaby:

That sucks, at least the damage was not too bad.

Did you have it on the centre stand or side?

I find its best to put it on its side stand and have the side with the stand facing away from the wind that way the wind tends to push the bike on to the stand and if the wind changes it has to lift the bike from a lean and then tip it over. Well that’s my theory anyway hope that helps

Sorry to hear that John but glad there was no significant damage. By crikey, 'birds are a bugger to pick up eh? I was running on pure adrenaline when I had my "off", otherwise I don't think I could have managed.

Hope your rear brake is ok now.

Just goes to show you how nasty nature (wind) can be. Seems to be a problem for alot of motorcyclists especially those who have smaller cc bikes as it doesn't take much for the wind to grab them and knock em over. Just glad the damage wasn't too bad even thou it would have pissed you off having it happen to your pride and joy.

Thanks geoff , it was`nt to bad to pick up ,there was a thread on here somewhere on how to pick a bike off the ground which helped(thanks KB) never thought I would ever need it but it worked.

Hav`nt had a chance to sort the brakes ,the missus reckons paint the interior of our house is more important(B*@*h).Will look at it soon.

Oooo that brought back nasty memories of October 2006. Had had the Prila for just over 2 months and came out for a smoke to find her on her side... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... similar damage to yourself... my sympathies... I decided to keep the scrapes and fashioned as suitable crash story to explain them... I don't park her anywhere windy anymore as the stand is feckin awful... Good luck with the repairs

Not wind but melted tar did it for me.

Had a fantastic days riding from Wanaka over the Haast pass and up to the glaciers. Stopped for a coffee (it was piss poor coffee too) and parked bike up on the side of the road.

Heard the sickly sound of a falling bike and rushed over to find her toppled against the next car in the park :(

No scratches but the mirror had broken off. It appears that the tar had melted and the foundation underneath was non-existant. The side stand had gone through the tarseal and about 5cm into the road. I kinda expect the stand to dig a hole if I park on grass, but not a sealed car park :argh:

Reminds me - 'the other biker at work' and I had our bikes parked outside last week. On two warm days, his CBR1000RRR had made a hole in the asphalt with the sidestand, while mine left nary a mark. We had a conference about it (lasted for...oooh.... weeks) and couldn't work it out. The CBRRRR was lighter, lower, and had a similar sidestand foot size. Must've been something about the leverage his bike exerted on the sidestand.

Yup,
Has happened to me.

CBR got blown onto it's RHS. The top faring hit the curb and broke... along with the clip-on.
$500 for the faring and paint... and $100 for the clip-on....

Darn hard to pick up and manoeuvre with a broken clip-on too. Had to leave it at work and get a ride in the GF's cage... cried the whole way home!
Yes, I cry when machinery gets damaged.

So I really feel for all of you who have had the wind blow your pride and joy over.
