View Full Version : Bros 650 in Dunedin

Sharry

Is there someone in Dunedin who knows enough about bikes in general or the Bros 650 that could pop into a bike shop named MCR at 79 Crawford Street and take their Bros for a ride and let me know how it runs?
I am considering buying it and having it shipped up to Auckland But would like to have it checked out first if I can.

here is the link to it on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=153389601

Thanks
Sharon

No offence here but if your paying anywhere near the asking price combined with getting it there your paying way to much for said bike.

How much would you say it is worth?
They quoted $250 to transport, although it would be much more fun to ride it back.

I paid 4 grand for one with 23000 a few years back (timaru),....plus they threw in a new main rear wheel bearing for it as well, which is something that should be checked, was a great bike too!!!
5200 is a bit much I reckon,seen one a while back, less k's for under 5

For that coin you could get a Ducati 600ss with less mileage and 10 years younger.

The Bros is a good bike...for the money..but you shouldn't consider parting with any more than $3,000 for a minter 1988 one.

I was looking at the Bros 650, Hyosung GT650R, SV650, ER-6 and the ducati 600/750ss when I went to move up. Best value when I took service and parts into consideration was the Ducati. I haven't been disappointed.

My only regret is that I should have bought Dooly's 750ss from him when I had the chance.

Honestly?$250 transport is great, the bike is however about $2000 over the top,if it really had to be that bike and nothing else its still $1500 to dear.Call there bluff and make them an offer which they will laugh at,be sure to give them your phone number, ive done the very thing many times and go figure the odd time a week or 2 later received a call.

Heh heh, I seem to remember a conversation with you about these bikes and how much you loved them, so can't say I'm surprised to see this thread. Wild West Honda still have that 400, but I can understand you wanting the 650. We still wouldn't mind getting hold of one at some stage.

I agree that it seems a bit overpriced. Although only a 400, we paid a LOT less for mine. I think that particular one has been for sale for a while, so I reckon they'd be willing to move on price.

So c'mon guys - who in Dunedin can go and look at this bike for Sharry? She's a real sweetie and I'm sure she'd appreciate it :D

That's a 21 year old bike! :pinch:
I bet my 8 year-old VFR wouldn't fetch much more'n $5k...

I think it's very lazy of them to post just one pic. Come on guys, if you want to sell it post lots of pics, different angles and close ups, for people out of Dunedin!
I love how the wheels are designed like a fan to blow cold air on the brake discs.
Neat bike design, even after 21 years, but like the others, I think it's a wee bit overpriced, as usual from a bike dealer.

For $250, you could nearly fly down and ride it home...

Yes, the wheels are particularly sexy. It is a pretty good looking naked bike, old or no.

250's good for transport, seeing as it usually costs closer to 500
Could probably get a TL for about that price though :)

Yeah, they're a cool bike....pity Honda didnt continue to develop them...but no one wanted them back in the day as it was the same price as the new CBR 600 which had another 40 odd hp....& they were also the worlds !st producion singlesided swingarm which is why they were expensive to poduce.Even Ducati realised a good thing when they saw it.....

But Ducat were smart, and weren't tied into a contract like Honda were with Elf France. Plus Ducati (and Triumph and MV Agusta) produced a SSSA and rear hub that was actually attractive and lightish.

I love the look of Ducati's and have taken an ER6F for a test ride and really enjoyed it but new ones are too expensive. I like the look of SV's too. If I find a Ducati 600 for no more than $7,500 i would take it out for a test ride in a flash.

Dunno about a test ride - wouldn't buy from a dealer coz of the mark up.

I suppose I was being a bit to Scottish with my haggling so $3500 might be more reasonable. however if you have $7,500 burning a hole thruough your bank account then the options really open up.

Doesn't hurt to go in with an offer of $3G cash, then the ball is in their court to make a counter offer. Maybe settle on a midway amount of about $4G, which seems reasonable...

Had a good comment at work today - bloke said "Is it true you fellas have gorse at the bottom of your pockets?"
I replied "I dunno, I've never put my hand all the way in!"

the second hand bike market is fucked: My 4 year old, 12000k Honda hornet 900 is at start equals reserve on tardme for less than some ten year old 250 hornets.

I'm just chiming in that I think its (the Bros) too dear too.

Maybe they could throw in a free tee shirt. There was about 10 guys all wearing matching MCR Tee shirts at levels. They must be members of their motard race team? Hmmmmmmmm matching tee shirts:woohoo:
